The present manuscript aims to identify the linguistic attitudes –positive or negative– of Korean students of Spanish as a foreign language toward the varieties of Spanish; the issue becomes interesting when there is a wide variety of alternatives of the same model of language such as Spanish. Although it is commonly known that the Castilian variety has a wider acceptance than other varieties, there are significant attitudes about the other Spanish varieties among Korean students and all this should also be taken into account by any professor of Spanish as a foreign language.","PeriodicalId":230296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foreign Studies","volume":"49 19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128650301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It investigated the tasks that required English, how the staff coped with English, and the outcomes of their English use. It was found that despite ten years’ of public education, nearly all the staff had difficulty communicating effectively with overseas suppliers and customers. Problems in email communication stemmed from misapplication of stock phrases, copying incorrect sample emails, and being unable to write email. Telephone and face-to-face meetings were also seriously hindered by incorrect English.","PeriodicalId":230296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foreign Studies","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125477467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Side effects in Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries are also discussed. The study was written by a native of Kyrgyzstan, with help from an American colleague, and presents insights and interpretation of the phenomenon from available Russian language and and English resources. The focus is Kyrgyz economic challenges and problems with higher education, which lead more and more citizens to find their best option in studying and/or working overseas.","PeriodicalId":230296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foreign Studies","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130657593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although in the last decades women had access to high education and jobs, the wage gap between men and women still remains virtually unchanged and the Glass Ceiling Index score is one of the lowest among OECD countries. This paper aims to present the historical background that led to the creation of the present unequal gender environment in South Korea and tries to identify what the main reasons for its existence and its implications are.","PeriodicalId":230296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foreign Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114107602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
