In contrast to other left ventricle reconstruction methods, the proposed algorithm works in the three-dimensional (3D) space and considers the oblique projection geometry associated to the biplane image acquisition equipment. The reconstruction process starts by performing an approximate reconstruction based on the cylindrical closure operation and the Dempster-Shafer Theory. Then this approximate reconstruction is appropriately deformed to match the given projections. The deformation is done according to an iterative process where the information provided by the projection error and the connexity between voxels, are combined by means of the Dempster-Shafer and the Fuzzy Integral theory.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"34 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116172746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machine Learning (ML) can use all particular data in interpretation of result. The authors' goal was to predict in a group of 327 patients the results of coronary angiography obtained by ML method and compare them with the results of MPS as the highest step in the classical diagnostic procedure. The Naive Bayesian Classifier as one of the ML methods was applied. The sensitivity of MPS was 0.83 and specificity 0.85. The post-test probability for CAD was 0.75 for positive results and 0.43 for negative ones. With application of ML the authors achieved sensitivity 0.89, specificity 0.88 and the post-test probability 0.90 for positive and 0.25 for negative results.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"7 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116373364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this new method, a priori knowledge is used to limit the searching space of heart model parameters and the matching criteria are of vital importance. Here, the authors discuss the relations between the sites of ventricular preexcitation accessory pathways (AP) and the body surface potential maps (BSPMs) in detail based on the heart model. The results show that 3 features are of importance, i.e., (1) the minimum sites in BSPMs, (2) the correlation coefficients between BSPMs of the different AP sites, and (3) the areas (or lead number) of the negative and low-level positive potentials in BSPMs, are sensitive to the AP sites and relatively insensitive to different patients. Experimental results show that the resolutions of these characteristic parameters of BSPMs to recognize the AP site are 5-7 myocardial elements (MEs), 3-4 MEs and 1-3 MEs of the heart model, respectively. Using these characteristic parameters, 3 objective functions and the mathematical model of the optimization system were developed. The optimization algorithm is also described briefly. The experimental results indicate that this new approach to the ECG inverse problem is both feasible and efficient, and the localization accuracy can be obtained to be less than 3 myocardial elements (<4.5 mm) of the heart model.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116526318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integrating this software into existing heterogeneous structures is the current problem one faces more and more often. The general requirement in the authors' case was to integrate ECG findings, i.e., curves and their interpretation, into a UNIX based relational database system, so that they can be accessed both by PCs and X-Terminals. In detail, interfaces between the different systems had to be provided for the import of patient demographic data into the ECG PCs and for the export of structured information in return. The problem arising is the required access from the UNIX environment, as the software is based on PCs and there were no browsers provided. The authors outline solutions to this problem and describe the general concept for the integration of PC based commercial software.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114901335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes a system for non-invasive determination of LV power output based on simultaneous acquisition of applanation tonometry for aortic blood pressure (BP) evaluation and echo-Doppler signals for flow measurement. Acquisition is performed with a dedicated A/D system allowing on-line visualisation of Doppler power spectra and calibrated tonometric signals (using mean and diastolic cuff BP at the brachial level). Aortic BP is estimated either using an aorto-radial transfer function, either untransformed carotid BP. This method has been investigated in 10 normal volunteers. Visualisation of calibrated data during acquisition allowed recordings with a low variability (mean standard deviation of reconstructed systolic BP<5 mmHg). The expected increase in systolic BP was observed from carotid to radial sites. The mean peak power was 6/spl plusmn/2 W.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115697911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm proposed consists of an adaptive filter whose reference signal is an impulse synchronized with the maternal QRS and whose desired signal is a fetal abdominal derivation. The filter behaves as an exponential average whereby its weights define an averaged abdominal maternal pulse that can be subtracted from the original register, thus eliminating the maternal contribution and securing a clean fetal ECG.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123865018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A database of 486 100% accurate classified cases was randomly divided into a training set (67%) and a test set (33%). Using a total of 274 parameters as well as the age and sex data the authors determined the discriminating power of each parameter with receiver operator characteristic analysis as well as the rank correlation of all possible parameter pairs. On the basis of the discriminating power and rank correlation, a number of different parameter selection schemes were considered. The authors achieved best classification rates on the test data set by selecting parameters which were maximally discriminating and non correlated.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123956440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the Luo-Rudy (phase II) model of the cardiac AP has been used with the formulation of the ATP-sensitive K/sup +/ current by Ferrero et al. (1996) being adopted. Simulations of APs were carried out in a linear strand of 300 cardiac cells, which comprised three zones that represented the normal zone, borderzone and ischemic central zone which appear during regional ischemia. The authors' results show that: (a) basic stimuli elicit APs which correspond to depressed fast responses, with the upstroke being supported mainly by Na/sup +/ current; and (b) a premature stimulus gives rise to APs which are Ca/sup 2+/ dependent (slow responses) within the ischemic central zone.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128598810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eight patients (1 female), age from 47 to 72 years were included in the study. The patients with conduction and rhythm disturbances, left main stenosis, and/or unstable angina pectoris were excluded from the study. The body surface potentials were recorded in lying position with unipolar leads referenced to the Wilson central terminal with 32 electrodes (Ag-AgCl disks). Ten seconds intervals of 32 lead ECG were recorded before dipyridamole infusion and 10 minutes after it, both prior and after the operation. J point was determined and ST-40 ms isointegral maps were calculated and compared.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130805054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurate measurement of volume changes requires 3-D reconstruction of marker positions from stereo pairs of images. Using the periodicity of heart motion quasi stereo pairs can be obtained by using one camera at two viewing positions. For this set-up 3-D reconstruction methods were developed. In computer simulations of markers attached to a beating heart (70 mm diameter) the performance of these methods was evaluated. With 12 markers recorded on standard video (256/spl times/256 pixel), a position noise of 0.5 pixel (s.d), and using only a single frame pair, the reconstruction error was 1.7 mm. Using the marker images in a sequence of 50 frames per view, the error reduced to 0.35 mm. By applying a SVD based noise reduction method the error may further be reduced to 0.17 mm. The obtained accuracy is appropriate for the measurement of volume changes of cardiac muscle which are typical of the order of 10%.","PeriodicalId":228649,"journal":{"name":"Computers in Cardiology 1997","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131032830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
