This systematic review found extensive patient-, physician-, and system-related factors that increased the length of time to diagnosis. Future preventative strategies should target the modifiable factors such as lack of awareness, embarrassment, accessibility, general practitioner education, and clinical training and streamlined imaging processes.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":" 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113951137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most cases of chronic illness, people will benefit from becoming active partners in their own health care journey. Medical professionals will focus on communication skills to become trusted navigators rather than impersonal technicians. Patient advocates and multidisciplinary teams will be key sources of support in a borderless healthcare system. Patients and paymasters will drive these innovations. Doctors will recognise them as an opportunity to avoid burnout. There is room for optimism. The healthcare system has the potential to deliver better outcomes at a lower cost.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"158 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131935005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examining the adverse effects of the obesogenic environment on dietary decision-making, and the personal motivators for behaviour change, may present as unique points of intervention for obesity management. The influence of the social and physical environment on eating behaviours also requires consideration in the context of both physical and mental health. An understanding of the extrinsic and intrinsic psychological factors motivating successful weight management is critical for practical translation into the healthcare context.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130032244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We assessed COVID-19–related changes in prenatal care, economic circumstances, and social needs of low-income pregnant and parenting persons to inform adapting a group prenatal care program enhanced with education, care coordination, and other support for use with telehealth. This study offers tangible ways to design and enhance telehealth group prenatal care to address the priorities identified by low-income families while incorporating limitations and requirements of medical care delivery systems. Telehealth group prenatal care programs can be implemented to increase access to health care, resources, and social connection during and after the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114931014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Obesity is also associated with worse outcomes for total joint arthroplasty (TJA) of the hip and knee. Bariatric surgery (BS) is an increasingly common mode of weight loss. This systematic review shows no clear pattern of the impact of BS on lower limb TJA. Therefore, prophylactic BS prior to lower limb TJA to induce weight loss does not significantly impact postoperative complication rates.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125331427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe the iterative multi-stage approach of developing “My Wellbeing Journal”, an innovative tool that incorporates consumer experiences and priorities and research evidence on goal-based shared decision-making. The EBCD process ensured stakeholders were involved in every stage of the design and development of the journal. However, the lack of PPE designed specifically for women is leaving many without adequate protection, as current “universal” solutions fail to address female healthcare workers’ varied needs. Instead, current solutions present users with a host of problems, including discomfort, hindrance, incompatibility with other wearable items, and adjustment difficulties. This paper explores and reflects upon the design thinking approach used to develop a PPE visor for female healthcare workers while following a user-centred design approach/methodology.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129855909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, health research processes and products often benefit from the collective insights gleaned when diverse partners work together. As such, co-designed and culturally responsive research often yields significant real-world impacts. We explore the need for change and propose a framework for reimagining research as an inherently collective and collaborative effort. Referencing an illustrative case study and using human-centred design approaches to support culturally responsive work, we offer reflections on how to embrace empathic, inclusive methods that meaningfully engage diverse and under-resourced communities in research co-design.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124032824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To support such a model, especially for respiratory diseases—ie, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or interstitial lung disease (ILD)—it is essential that data are collected over a sustained time period. As such, the distribution of portable medical devices to patients’ homes poses a significant logistical challenge. We present the user-centred design approach undertaken by a multidisciplinary design team consisting of product designers, design engineers, electronics/programming experts, and healthcare professionals to develop a postable modular peak flow meter.","PeriodicalId":228302,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Health Design","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115004450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
