Asthme & Allergies decided to carry out a survey to verify the information and to collect patients quotes. Method: A 10 question questionnaire self-administered via Survey Monkey was proposed to patients on Asthme & Allergies website between 29/05 & 7/07/2017 Results: 246 answers were collected. 79.7% of respondents are women. 32.9% are under 30, 45.9% between 31 and 50, and 21.2% over 50 years old. 65% report a follow-up by a GP, 34% by a pulmonologist in private practice, 29% by a hospital pulmonologist, 26% by an allergist. The frequency of visits is every 3 months for 32.5%, twice a year for 25.6%, once a year for 21.1%, every month for 10.1%. 79.3% got lung function tests and 78.9% allergy tests. 49.6% received an emergency action plan. 44.9% were hospitalized for their asthma, and only 51% of them left hospital with an appointment with a pulmonologist. Medical follow-up for asthma is considered as non-existent for 9.7%, insufficient for 29.54%, correct for 32.07%, satisfactory for 18.57%, very satisfactory for 10.13% Conclusion: The quotes show that respondents are mainly people with severe asthma, which explains the high rate of lung function & allergy tests and hospitalizations. Patients express their difficulty in getting a diagnosis, they specify that the appointment with a pulmonologist was often taken at their own initiative, and the delays for an appointment are too long. They also say that asthma is not taken seriously enough. This survey drew our attention on the need to develop adapted tools to optimize diagnosis, patient pathway and access to specialists.","PeriodicalId":228043,"journal":{"name":"Medical education, web and internet","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129078013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last five years alone the number of ‘tweets’ sent per day has increased by a factor of 100,000. 500 million ‘tweets’ are now sent per day. Using a designated twitter ‘hashtag’ allows a conference to promote interaction before during and after the event Aim: To assess the impact and reach of the annual Intensive Care Society (ICS) conference by instituting a dedicated social media (SoMe) team Method: A dedicated SoMe team, modelled with aim of representing the critical care multidisciplinary team, was set-up approximately one year in advance. The approach included early adoption of a single official hashtag which was registered with ‘Symplur’, an online platform that collates and provides analytics for hashtags. We integrated ‘twitter moderators’ into every session, live-streamed delegates’ tweets on screens, created real-time infographics on the talks and also used our hashtag to encourage attendance at networking/social events. We had facilities for creating live stream and recorded interviews with speakers. We also created daily ‘summing up’ videos which were uploaded across facebook, youtube, periscope and twitter. Results: The impact of a dedicated SoMe team:\u0000 *The number of paying delegates to the conference was 1061 Conclusions: A multi-professional SoMe team significantly increased the impact and reach of a national intensive care conference in the UK. This approach could be adopted for other international conferences to share education, learning and involvement in the future.","PeriodicalId":228043,"journal":{"name":"Medical education, web and internet","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134054392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shared decision making(SDM) by patient and healthcare provider might enhance adherence and self-efficacy in patients. Aim: To develop an online tool that can be used to support the choice of an inhaler that matches patients’ needs and preferences Method: 452 asthma/COPD patients completed a questionnaire (64% female, 74% between 50 and 75 years) with questions about “inhaler satisfaction” and “inhaler preferences” to detect relevant inhaler characteristics. These characteristics were used to develop the online SDM tool. According to the questionnaire we developed an balanced overview of (dis)advantages for each inhaler group. The tool was developed in Qualtrics. Results: Patients considered “dose counter,” “feedback mechanism,” “environmental friendly,” “ Conclusion: It was possible to create an easy to use, online SDM tool. Our tool can empower patients in choosing their inhaler. The efficacy of this tool needs to be evaluated in clinical practice.","PeriodicalId":228043,"journal":{"name":"Medical education, web and internet","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125250015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multicentre study was conducted in the Russian Federation in 6 cities (Belgorod, Chelyabinsk, Saratov, Samara, Voronezh & Vladivostok), 139 of higher grade (4th-6th grade) medical students were tested. Knowledge of key aspects of bronchial asthma such as definition, pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment was evaluated through the means of a questionnaire consisting of 12 questions. These questions were a mix of multi choice and anecdotal.\u0000\u0000Results . The average level of correct answers totaled 72.4% and varied from 58.6% to 88.2% in different centers. The most difficult questions were the following: BA definition (43.2% of correct answers), key factor of BA pathogenesis (63.3%), peak flowmetry as the main method of BA self-control (61.9%), fixed combinations of drugs (62.6%).\u0000\u0000The best results were shown when defining the following: trigger in the development of an asthmatic attack (89.2%), the main method of BA diagnosis (89.2%), variants of BA severity (87.1%), status asthmaticus (94.2%).\u0000\u0000Conclusion . Despite the availability of plenty training and scientific literature in bronchial asthma field the level of knowledge in this area cannot be admitted as satisfactory. The level of incorrect answers to basic questions reaches 41.4% in the certain centers. Thus bronchial asthma subject should be studied more thoroughly in the medical higher schools.","PeriodicalId":228043,"journal":{"name":"Medical education, web and internet","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132527419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
