A data acquisition concept utilizing high performance electronic integrated circuitry together with integrated microstrip and fin-line 6-port detector modules have been developed and employed for two experimental setups in X- and Ka-band respectively. Full waveguide band operation with high accuracy performance has been achieved with fully automated and error corrected measurement procedures.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125554551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system is up to now the only known possibility of a high directivity measurement in a highly oversized waveguide, where arbitrary modes in broad range are propagated alternatively or even simultaneously. The function of a bidirectional coupler is achieved from the free space radiation of a linear array of holes in the wall of the waveguide. The radiated electromagnetic field is sampled by two receiving antennas placed at opposite locations. The present application is the reflection monitor used at the output of high-power gyrotrons in the 130 - 160 GHz frequency range.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128857876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The governing principle of this synthesis is to ensure a continuous transition from the quite distributed behaviour of the network (at high frequencies) to the quite lumped one (at low frequencies). Once this \"adhoc\" synthesis is done, the lossy line sections is interpreted as a recursive filter in order to combine high accuracy and stability with low computing time and storage requirements. Efficiency of this new extension is confirmed by several direct comparisons between computed and measured results on loaded or unloaded single and coupled microstrip line sections etched on GaAs substrates.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129171548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model has been used to analyze the effects of the injection of an ELF sinusoidal current on the firing rate of pacemaker neurons. The analysis is useful also to study the effects of amplitude-modulated RF and microwave fields in view of possible, although not proven, detection effects. We now extend the theoretical analysis scanning the frequency and the amplitude of the sinusoidal exciting current and determining the effects on the spontaneous firing frequency. Finally, we perform a serie of experiments on snail neuronal cells carrying out a comparison between theoretical and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124479384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Application of the equivalence principle and the reaction concept of Rumsey leads to the variational formulation of the integral equation expressing the electric field in terms of equivalent currents. The method takes into account the 2-D nature of the strips making it possible to handle the problem of the kernel singularity using on exact analytical method in the case of self-reaction. In other cases the current is assumed to be tangential to the centre-line and constant over the width of the strip which can be approximated by its centre-line. The current and its divergence are approximated by a finite element method (1-D linear elements for the spiral and 2-D linear elements for the reflector). The electromagnetic field radiated by these currents is then calculated and integrated over total space in order to obtain the directivity of the antenna.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130811634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Statistical analysis of the results show a near Rayleigh distribution when the mobile receiver is distant from the transmitter, with significant deviations from Rayleigh when the reciever is near the transmitter, and line of sight transmission is possible. The power spectra obtained for the urban environment show a far greater high frequency component than power spectra obtained in an \"open countryside\" environment where propagation is less nultipath dependent. Initial results are very promising and indicate that millimetre wavelength cellular radio is a worthwhile area of study for future mobile communication systems.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131228078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
