Since the civil war in Syria started in 2011, almost every region of Turkey has been exposed to intense migration of Syrian refugees. Hatay, one of the cities on the Syria border, has received approximately 500.000 refugees which causes significant spatial and social changes in city structure. Refugees have created cheap labor in Hatay in many work areas, which caused economic problems by reducing the income of citizens living and working in that region. The increase in rents and the spread of the population from the center to the periphery of the city led to serious urban problems. The aim of this study was to examine and create a number of maps to indicate how uncontrolled migration affects the cultural, economic and urban change of the city over time (2009-2019). Landsat satellite images, which are obtained by remote sensing techniques, were processed in image processing software; therefore social, economic, cultural and urban changes were discussed with the result data generated by applying several image classification methods. Important issues such as urban identity, zoning, destruction of historical values, alienation of local people from the region attract attention. For example, Arab signs rising from shops and Arab music make the streets look like a small Syrian. Citizens who follow these developments closely and now accept the reality of Syria have complained that British names were once placed in stores in the city, now points out that Arabic signboards have increased. görüntü işleme yazılımında işlenmiş; sosyal, ekonomik, kültürel ve kentsel değişimler çeşitli görüntü sınıflandırma yöntemleri uygulanarak tespit edilmiştir. Kent kimliği, imar, tarihi değerlerin yok edilmesi, yöre halkının bölgeden yabancılaşması gibi önemli konular dikkat çekmektedir. Örneğin dükkanlardan yükselen Arap tabelaları ve Arap müziği sokakları küçük bir Suriyeli gibi gösteriyor. Bu gelişmeleri yakından takip eden ve şimdi Suriye gerçekliğini kabul eden vatandaşlar, bir zamanlar İngiliz isimlerinin şehirdeki mağazalara yerleştirilmesinden şikayet etti, şimdi Arapça tabelaların arttığına dikkat çekiyor.","PeriodicalId":227277,"journal":{"name":"TURKISH JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130551007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their types and diversity vary according to climate and altitudes, the main drivers. This paper examines the vertical and horizontal distribution of forests in Uttarakhand Himalaya. Data was gathered from the secondary sources mainly from the Forest Survey of India 2005, 2011, and 2017. Forest density along with altitudinal gradient and horizontally was also analyzed. Our result shows that forest cover is high in the districts which are located in the mountainous mainland. In the meantime, the districts where the area under snow-clad is high, and which lie in the plain region, forest cover is less. In terms of altitude, the forest area below 3,000 m is less. Total forest area is 63% of the total area whereas forest cover is only 45%. Forest use is less in the highlands and its use is high in the middle altitudes and river valleys. The middle altitudes and the valleys region have a comparatively high population. Forest degradation has observed high in these locations. It is suggested that forest can optimally be used in the highlands and it can be conserved in and surrounding the rural and urban settlements.","PeriodicalId":227277,"journal":{"name":"TURKISH JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114246430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the continuity and maintenance of ecosystems is possible through the existence and sustainable use of biodiversity. Biological inventories are needed for effective and sustainable natural resource management structure. Therefore, it is essential to determine the inventory of the natural asset in the area during ecological planning. Wetlands are ecosystems that shape cultural processes with their ecological importance and contributions to human communities. Recognition and protection of these areas which are open to anthropogenic effects with their environmental enhancing effects, and biological and socio-economic values are of increasing importance. In this study, vegetation analysis of the wetland biotopes and the immediate surroundings of Kurucaşile (Bartın) district was carried out. In this context, 34 woody and 71 herbaceous plants were determined from 6 sample areas and vegetation composition of these species and their frequencies were determined with Braun-Blanquet Method. Accordingly, the most common plants in the area; Alnus glutinosa subsp. glutinosa , Platanus orientalis , Salix alba, Rhododendron ponticum subsp. ponticum , Buxus sempervirens , Smilax excelsa , Petasites hybridus , Sambucus ebulus and Anagallis arvensis var. arvensis. Petasites hybridus is dominant taxa. By this way, it is aimed to create a database for the sustainable use of natural areas by explaining the wetland potential of the area.","PeriodicalId":227277,"journal":{"name":"TURKISH JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114895365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the fire statistics, about 21000 hectares of forest areas are damaged by forest fires annually. In order to fight forest fires effectively, the firefighting teams should reach the fire location and start fire extinguishing activities within the critical response time. GIS-based network analysis method can be used to evaluate the performance of the firefighting teams in a specified area. In this study, the locations of three firefighting teams within and around Yayla Forest Enterprise Chief (FEC) in the city of Balıkesir in Turkey was evaluated using \"Network Analyst\" module of ArcGIS software. In the first step, the optimum routes which provided the fastest access from the locations of firefighting teams to the possible fire areas were determined by using “New Closest Facility” method under \"Network Analyst\" module. Then, “New Service Area” method under the same module was used to calculate how far the firefighting teams can reach in the study area within a specific critical response time. It was found that 16 out of 19 potential fire areas could be reached by the teams within the critical response time. In addition, 83% of the forest areas in Yayla FEC was found to be reachable by the firefighting teams within the critical response time. The results suggested that the locations of the firefighting teams were found to be suitable for effective firefighting activities in the study area.","PeriodicalId":227277,"journal":{"name":"TURKISH JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE","volume":"146 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125863378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spatial distribution of Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET), which is a measure of bioclimatic comfort, was retrieved for the city of Sulaimani using meteorological data. The air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed data were employed for the calculation of PET. Data recorded at 15:00 obtained from 7 meteorological stations over the period from 1992-2015 were used to calculate monthly PET with the Rayman model. PET was spatially interpolated using IDW tool in ArcGIS 10.2 to convert point-data consisting of PET for each individual meteorological station into a continuous surface. Therefore, spatial distribution maps of PET for outdoor recreation activities were created after analyzing the maps. The results revealed that the lowest PET determined was around 4.8°C in Penjwin area during January while the highest PET determined as 59.6°C in northeast of Sulaimani, Halabja during July. On the other hand, the results also revealed that Sulaimani city, Dukan and Penjwin areas are founded to be more suitable for tourism especially during summer months compared to others within Sulaimani Province. The final results of this study may be used by recreation authorities in Sulaimani in the near future.","PeriodicalId":227277,"journal":{"name":"TURKISH JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130580023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
