Among the tested MDDs, the lowest mean muscle activity (15.63 ±3.03mV) was reported in left masseter muscle with condition F and the highest (87.23 ±4.09mV) in left temporalis muscle with condition C. Conclusion: The use of a kois deprogrammer for 24 hours revealed a significant low muscle activity in both the masseter and temporalis muscles of each side when compared with other tested MDDs in the study. Casts were obtained from impressions of surgically operated sites. Sculpted wax pattern were fabricated and tried onto the defect region for fit, stability & colour matching. The patterns were processed using two-pour technique and packed with respective maxillofacial prosthetic materials. After finishing and polishing, the maxillofacial prostheses were delivered. Maxillofacial prosthesis plays an integral part in restoring patients’ psychological needs along with functional and aesthetic requirements. Conclusion: For social well-being and psychological support, patients with maxillofacial defects need to be addressed and treated in a different manner. Maxillofacial prostheses provide lot of support and care for patients. They complement the lost and defective tissues of face and regain internal smile and confidence among patients. Prosthodontists, as health professionals, can help restore patients’ functioning and provide them with acceptable aesthetics thereby motivating them for a better overall healthcare and social acceptability. The participants were completely edentulous patients reporting to the Department based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was performed in four phases. During the first phase, the need-based evaluation was done to assess weakness in the communication skills of postgraduates during complete denture treatment. Apart from this, the patient’s interviews were conducted after the completion of treatment. Based on this a customized module was designed and training was given in the second phase. Then the trained postgraduates were observed and follow-up sessions were conducted in the third and fourth phases. The sample size estimated was 100, using OpenEpi Version 3.03. Convenience sampling was done. This was a mixed-mode study where statistical analysis was done both for quantitative and qualitative variables. Result: There was an association of communication skills of the dentist with satisfaction and oral health-related quality of life thus contributing to the success of complete denture treatment. It was found that there were 8 times more chances of patient satisfaction if the doctors are trained in communication skills. Conclusion: A customized communication skills training module brought a positive change in the attitude of postgraduates which was sustained with follow-up sessions. This was found to positively affect doctor-patient relationships contributing to the success of complete denture treatment. Summary: A scoping review was planned keeping in mind the need arising from the pandemic and online research databases were scanned for articles related to radiation therapy protocols for head and neck cancer patients and the changes required to sustain radiation therapy for those in critical need. New guidelines based on what has been learnt about the virus were found for such patients mainly from ASTRO/ESTRO. Conclusion: Treating cancer patients with Radiation therapy while surgeries are postponed seems the most practical and viable option to limit exposure to clinical environments that could be contaminated. It also makes them less reliant on the availability of hospital beds which are mostly being reserved for Covid-19 patients and relieves the burden on the existing medical equipment, infrastructure, and resources, medical and paramedical staff. Although protocols are evolving with each new input around the virus, an institution based planning and approach is needed. DOI: 10.4103/0972-4052.306367 Trends of patient attendance at a prosthetic tertiary care centre during the COVID 19 pandemic: An Observational Study Dr. Aradhana Nagarsekar Introduction: The COVID 19 pandemic resulted in unforeseen upheavals in the health care sector. Every speciality of medicine and dentistry has witnessed immense changes in terms of patient attendance and care. There is a dire need to understand and analyse these trends, especially from the Prosthodontic perspective. This would in turn help us understand the nuances of patient attendance for future use Methodology: The pattern of attendance of patients to a Prosthodontics department in an educational institute was studied. An observational database including demographics, treatment needs and the occurrence of emergencies was established pertaining to the patients who reported to the department during this Pandemic. All the relevant parameters were closely studied to set up a framework for future use. Result: Patients reporting with dislodged and /or failing tooth as well as implant supported restorations required immediate attention during several phases of lockdown. Planned and predetermined cases such as infants requiring feeding plates and naso alveolar moulding insertion and adjustments were prominent in their attendance. Overall, the pandemic did reduce the reporting of patients for emergency and elective prosthetic procedures. This will help us re-evaluate the definition of emergencies and factors in certain parameters for future treatment protocols Conclusion: Patient attendance is multifactorial. Establishment of protocols and guidelines for all possible patient presentation scenarios are essential for smooth functioning of Prosthodontic departments during times of emergencies DOI: 10.4103/0972-4052.306368 Accuracy of laboratory scanner by scanning the impressions and dental stone casts of the prepared tooth: An In Vitro study Dr. Sattyam Vikram Wankhade, Dr. Kanchan Aswani Government Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India Purpose: The accuracy of a scanner is determined by two factors: “trueness” and “precision.
