Abstract
The Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society | Volume 20 | Supplement 1 | December 2020 S17 Methodology: This study was conducted in the Department of Prosthodontics from 20152018. The participants were completely edentulous patients reporting to the Department based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was performed in four phases. During the first phase, the need-based evaluation was done to assess weakness in the communication skills of postgraduates during complete denture treatment. Apart from this, the patient’s interviews were conducted after the completion of treatment. Based on this a customized module was designed and training was given in the second phase. Then the trained postgraduates were observed and follow-up sessions were conducted in the third and fourth phases. The sample size estimated was 100, using OpenEpi Version 3.03. Convenience sampling was done. This was a mixed-mode study where statistical analysis was done both for quantitative and qualitative variables. Result: There was an association of communication skills of the dentist with satisfaction and oral health-related quality of life thus contributing to the success of complete denture treatment. It was found that there were 8 times more chances of patient satisfaction if the doctors are trained in communication skills. Conclusion: A customized communication skills training module brought a positive change in the attitude of postgraduates which was sustained with follow-up sessions. This was found to positively affect doctor-patient relationships contributing to the success of complete denture treatment.
