According to this technique, sensor nodes along the forwarding path are scheduled with sequential wakeup time slots. Even though the previous pipeline-forwarding protocols such as P-MAC and PRI-MAC showed a good result in term of reducing end-to-end delay, a significant per-hop delay is remained due to the unnecessary idle listening of sensor nodes in each cycle. In this paper, we propose a new pipeline-forwarding technique which tries to resolve this problem. In the proposed protocol, the RTS/CTS handshaking procedure is shortened by taking advantage of ACK mechanism. By waking up right before the upstream node sends ACK frame and overhearing it, a sensor node can be aware of the possibility of receiving data without waiting for and listening RTS frame. Therefore, the unnecessary idle listening can be reduced. When comparing with the existing solution PRI-MAC using QualNet simulator, our protocol shows the significant improvement in term of end-to-end delay and energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132055279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this field, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) plays an important role in many applications which have been deployed in reality such as stolen car detection, parking system management, and automatic transport charging system. The traditional ALPR methods usually need a high resolution camera to capture good quality images and a powerful computer to process the complex algorithms. However, with many great scientific breakthroughs in mobile device technology, we can easily buy smartphone/tablet which equipped strong central processing unit (CPU) and excellent camera to meet the requirements of ALPR. In this paper, we develop an Android program which processes the image captured by built-in camera of mobile device to have license plate number and save it into database for further applications. Open-source OpenCV libraries are imported into project for some image processing steps with purpose of programming time saving. We apply Tesseract engine and neural network which are two optical character recognition (OCR) methods to convert license plate image to machine-encoded text.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131067880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specif cally, we propose a scheme named as IR-CRN which enhances spatial diversity gain by utilizing the incremental relaying protocol. The destination node of the IR-CRN scheme employs maximal ratio combining (MRC) technique to combine the signals from the source node and the relay node. For performance evaluation, we derive exact expressions of outage probability of the proposed system over Rayleigh fading channels with half-duplex based that energy harvesting relaying. Our results show that the system performances of the proposed scheme are much better than of the direct transmission (DT) scheme. In addition, the optimal time splitting and the position of the cooperative relay are also investigated. Our derivations are validated by Monte Carlo simulations.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115681779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In literature, most of work on Strict Frequency Reuse algorithms in a Spatial Point Poisson network assumed that the reuse factor was 1 and there was either single user or single Resource Block (RB). Hence, the performance either CEU or CCU was discussed. In this paper, the performance of both types of users as well as total throughput of CEUs and CCUs are investigated. The analytical results indicate that most of users in Tier-1 are served as CCUs while the numbers of UEUs and CCUs in Tier-2 are similar.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115783029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At each hop, partial relay selection is used to improve secure performance. In particular, we derive the system secure outage probability and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity over Rayleigh fading channels, which are then used to investigate the effect of imperfect channel state information on the system secure performance. Simulations are performed to verify the correctness of the analysis approach.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115839412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A calculation method is proposed for light beam configuration (LBC) which guarantees no blind areas in the whole VLC coverage while minimizing the number of light beams. As a major contribution in this paper, a light beam allocation algorithm (LBAA) is proposed which aims to eliminate interferences between inter VLC Access Points (inter-APs) by using information of incoming data queue length and co-channel interference (CCI) conditions to decide which VLC beams are used for transmitting data to appropriate user equipment (UEs). By deploying the proposed algorithm, CCI can be eliminated because noise-effected regions and noise-free regions can be separated. Performance of the novel LBAA is analyzed, evaluated and then compared with that of another light beam allocation method using the Round-Robin algorithm. Performance results show that there are significantly improvements in term of SINR, user throughput and packet delay parameters when deploying the proposed LBAA.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"143 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114368929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the atmospheric fading correlation analysis and by employing an approximation method for the sum of correlated (G-G) random variables (RVs), closed-form expressions for the capacity are derived for both equal gain combining (EGC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques. Numerical results confirm that channel correlation considerably degrades the performance of MIMO systems. Under a constraint of receiving area, we find that an optimal number of receiver aperture exists to achieve the best performance considering the negative impact of channel correlation. Monte-Carlo (M-C) simulations are also performed to validate the analytical results.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129229856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, many spectrum sensing techniques have been proposed in the literature to identify the state of the Primary Users (PUs) in the temporal domain. However, these techniques are usually interested in the current state of channel without consideration to their status in the past. In this paper, we applied Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for SS in Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) and employ an Expectation-Maximization (EM) method to estimate parameters of the HMM in the presence of censored data. Further, we present an optimal likelihood computation for censored data during the online channel status estimation procedure. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"288 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133912448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these systems must deal with irregular and frequent join/leave of nodes and the problem of load unbalancing between nodes. This paper presents an efficient file replication scheme based on DHT identifier space clustering in order to guarantee data availability and support load balancing for DHT-based file backup systems. The main idea of our method is to divide a DHT network into a number of clusters, each of which locally stores and maintains data chunks of data files to guarantee the data availability for backup data files even in the case of node churn occurred in the network. Further, backup nodes are selected among high-capacity nodes in clusters to achieve a good degree of load balancing. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme in comparison with other file replication schemes.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130593812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
