However, few studies have utilized conflict to support collaborative learning and wiki systems themselves have limitations. This paper proposes to provide visual feedback about conflict in wiki based on the “page history” to create a sense of audience, psychological ownership and support information seeking. Theoretical model is built upon literature, and the Partial Least Squares (PLS) results from a survey study (208 responses) indicate that conflict awareness can motivate students to participate, achieve better conflict resolution and improve the quality of learning. The results also show that the new design is well accepted by students and can significantly enhance the influence of conflict awareness on participation and conflict resolution.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127877744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, some new ways of adhoc cooperation have been demonstrated during the hurricane Irene and the earthquake in Japan. In such emergency situations, OSNs have already taken a significant role as alternative social media that support altruistic information sharing and cooperation among people. However, existing cooperation approaches have not been well-organized and are highly vulnerable to security threats such as a disclosure of users' identities and the leakage of other private data due to the lack of secure cooperation mechanisms. To support secure and effective cooperation in OSNs, in this paper, we propose the Social CRiBAC (Community-centric Role interaction Based Access Control) model, which extends the existing CRiBAC model [1] for use in OSNs to support cooperation among users. To verify the feasibility of the proposed model, we have implemented a prototype application on Facebook and demonstrate its applicability with two working examples.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128468058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We demonstrate how current systems cover only partially the social and individual motivations on deciding and teaming up for events, and propose i) a system of implicit and explicit incentives that rewards intention and experience sharing within circles based on friendship or interests and ii) a discovery algorithm that combines the importance of coming along with friends with the personal interests to recommend events. The resulting platform has been applied to generic events as well as domain-specific ones such as shows in movie theaters.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114882165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network traffic data exhibit spatiotemporal patterns. Learning and maintaining the currently elusive rich semantics based on analyzing such patterns would help in mitigating those challenges. In this paper, we propose the concept of a network “memory” (or NetMem) to support smarter data-driven network operations as a foundational component of next generation networks. NetMem will enable networking objects to understand autonomously, at real-time, on-demand, and at low cost semantics with different levels of granularity and related to various network elements. Guided by the fact that human activities exhibit spatiotemporal data patterns; and the human memory extracts and maintains semantics to enable accordingly learning and predicting new things, we design NetMem to mimic functionalities of that memory. NetMem provides capabilities for semantics management through uniquely integrating data virtualization for homogenizing massive data originating from heterogeneous sources, cloud-like scalable storage, associative rule learning to recognize data patterns, and hidden Markov models for reasoning and extracting semantics clarifying normal/abnormal behavior. NetMem provides associative access to data patterns and relevant derived semantics to enable enhancements in early anomaly detection, more accurate behavior prediction and satisfying QoS requirements with better utilization of resources. We evaluate NetMem using simulation. Preliminary results demonstrate the positive impact of NetMem on various network management operations.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"372 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126714050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, Cloud service identification and discovery remains a hard problem due to different service descriptions, non-standardised naming conventions and heterogeneous types and features of Cloud services. In this paper, we present an OWL-based ontology, the Cloud Computing Ontology (CoCoOn) that defines functional and non-functional concepts, attributes and relations of infrastructure services. We also present a system, CloudRecommender-that implements our domain ontology in a relational model. The system uses regular expressions and SQL for matching user requests to service descriptions. We briefly describe the architecture of the CloudRecommender system, and demonstrate its effectiveness and scalability through a service configuration selection experiment based on a set of prominent Cloud providers' descriptions including Amazon, Azure, and GoGrid.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"66 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134412097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The “power of known peers” can be embraced to provide implicit navigation support for collaborative social e-learning environments. In this paper, we present a novel approach to collaborative e-learning through open social student modeling with Progressive Zoom navigation support. Progressive Zoom is a Google-Maps paradigm which seeks to address information overload issues. It enables students to zoom in or out in a multi-layer fashion, so students can reflect on their individual and peer progress based on the knowledge and pedagogical context. In our initial survey, all students were satisfied with the navigation interface and would recommend the interface to their classmates.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129898654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of building and maintaining dedicated data centers, this paradigm enables to achieve lower operational cost and better interoperability with other healthcare providers. However, the adoption of cloud computing in healthcare systems may also raise many security challenges associated with authentication, identity management, access control, trust management, and so on. In this paper, we focus on access control issues in electronic medical record systems in clouds. We propose a systematic access control mechanism to support selective sharing of composite electronic health records (EHRs) aggregated from various healthcare providers in clouds. Our approach ensures that privacy concerns are accommodated for processing access requests to patients' healthcare information.We also demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of our approach by implementing a proof-of-concept prototype along with evaluation results.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126732011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since data is represented based on Entity-Relationship-Models, the framework is applicable in a wide range of domains. It provides a set of state-focusing operations, that is able to abstract arbitrary data interfaces. In addition, non-reflexive meta-operations allow to undo/redo any user action. Consistency is maintained by forcing concurrent operations to commute by transitive precedence rules. Both convergence and undo/redo control are mirrored at runtime to provide maximal performance and scalability regarding session duration, data and number of participants. These claims are successfully verified in this paper by analyzing average execution times under a realtime collaboration workload simulated in a turn-based system.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"155 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125889953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many security-oriented organizations deploy multi-level systems which enforce one directional information flow in a lattice of security labels. However, traditional lattice constructions are not suitable for accommodating external consultants, since such consultants are not “true insiders” but rather “expedient insiders” who should receive much more limited privileges than employees. An authorization model for group-centric collaboration with expedient insiders (GEI) has been recently proposed, wherein organizations create groups and replicate the organizational lattice with selected content for such collaborations [4]. Motivated by GEI, in this paper, we formulate a novel lattice construction wherein a new collaboration category is introduced for each new collaboration group, in a manner significantly different from the usual process of defining new security categories in a lattice. In particular, a collaboration category brings together only the required objects and users. We develop a formal model for lattices with collaborative compartments (LCC) comprising administrative and operational parts covering the life-cycle of such collaborations. We formally prove the equivalence of LCC and GEI, thereby precisely characterizing the information flow and security properties of GEI which heretofore had only been informally considered. This equivalence shows that GEI can be realized via LBAC with minimal operational disruptions.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115050054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
