Yet, these services are really fragmented and, in some cases, lack critical mass to become useful tools for the scientific community. Furthermore, most of them have failed to create a virtual environment where users' needs and activities are supported. In this paper, we present an entity-based platform aimed at integrating papers, persons, events and the services they enable. Conferences (events) are used as a starting point for collecting a critical mass of users: upon registration attendees become part of the community and can contribute to it, discussing publications, sharing content (e.g. presentations, videos, notes and pictures), or adding additional information on their page. The paper describes the user-centered research that has led to the design and presents its architecture which was shown during the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) 2011.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123789286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to optimally support these projects which are carried out by students and staff members, using appropriate software tools and virtual environments. The special requirements for such a supportive system, which were gathered and refined over time, are analyzed in detail. These requirements serve as a foundation of our implementation. Its evolution is described in consecutive stages which continuously improve the quality of project support by learning from each stage. Furthermore, challenges and benefits of supportive systems are discussed and a vision for future developments towards a virtual, federated value-creating community is drafted.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126589083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, existing similar systems facilitate collaboration at the risk to convey doubtful information and sometimes serve as a gate to vandalism. Our system called “WiseShare” ensures collaboration while focusing on the reliability of the broadcasted content. To achieve this goal, we precisely express the requirements needed to control the shared information. In addition, we define a formal framework for specifying security policies governing contributions requests according to user profile. We present also a prototype implementing the functionalities of our system. In our approach, a new user has limited rights. On an ongoing basis, if he demonstrates his ability to produce good contributions, he gains new privileges. Conversely, if he often generates contributions with a questionable content, he loses the held privileges. Therefore, granting user requests depends closely on his previous behavior (the history). Indeed, our system encourages users to adopt a responsible attitude by focusing on the reliability of the content of their contributions instead of their frequency. Consequently, WiseShare permits to significantly minimize clumsy and malicious actions.","PeriodicalId":225191,"journal":{"name":"8th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing (CollaborateCom)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133160076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
