In spite of large content of water (up to 90 mol%) the electric conductivity and electric permittivity is relatively low, sound velocity is practically the same as for pure hydrocarbon. The reason for these \"mysterious\" properties is the structure of reverse micelles -water is hidden in surfactant shell and surrounded by nonpolar solvent. Change in volume fraction of micelles leads to an interesting phenomenon linked with percolation. In the contribution we would like to present our recent results obtained in docusate sodium salt + water + isooctane mixture. The most interesting and actually not fully understood phenomenon is an enormous positive non-linear dielectric effect observed in the aforementioned system.","PeriodicalId":224651,"journal":{"name":"2021 13th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115719103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previously, we measured this parameter concurrently with the dielectric spectrum in γ-dispersion (0.5 to 70 GHz), represented by the Cole-Cole parameters. The relaxation time, τ, is anticorrelated with ER variations, indicating a dramatic shift in blood viability. Besides, we observe a monotonous change in the α parameter starting after the first week of storage. Furthermore, Δε also changes during the whole period. These results lead to an intriguing hypothesis about the dielectric parameters' behavior and the RBC's demise. Towards the development of a well-established method for monitoring stored RBC employing γ-dispersion spectroscopy, longer-lasting clinical trials need to be carried out over a large cohort of samples. We propose easy-to-use and low-cost systems for monitoring the γ-dispersion of cell suspensions. The systems extract the complex dielectric permittivity on at least two frequencies; those values allow the whole Cole-Cole relaxation model calculation.","PeriodicalId":224651,"journal":{"name":"2021 13th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116486623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study we employ a novel multi-channel system for 0.05–3 GHz soil dielectric spectrum measurements which allows for simultaneous measurement of six different soil samples. The use of this system makes it possible to easily separate errors due to sample loading and preparation from the errors caused by the cell connection nonrepeatability. Results of our study demonstrate that the limiting factor for the repeatability of soil dielectric-spectrum characterization is the very process of sample preparation and loading. Our results may serve as a first step in the difficult task of establishing an uncertainty analysis for soil dielectric measurements.","PeriodicalId":224651,"journal":{"name":"2021 13th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114971619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An unresolved problem in the theoretical modeling of HF-EM properties is the interaction of the aqueous pore solution and mineral phases, especially in fine grained soils containing clay minerals. Against this background temperature (-2 to 25 °C) and frequency (50 MHz to 5 GHz) dependent dielectric material properties of two water saturated clays (illite-chlorite, montmorillonite) were measured with open ended coaxial line technique. The impact of dielectric relaxation processes below 1 GHz were analysed based on a master plot for the electrical modulus representation. In case of illite-chlorite the deviation from a Debye-type characteristic is small indicating that a Maxwell-Wagner effect dominates the interaction of the aqueous pore solution and soil particles. In contrast montmorillonite shows a significant deviation from Debye-type characteristics with asymmetrical relaxation time distribution. Hence, an additional HF relaxation processes are hidden behind the dominated Maxwell-Wagner process.","PeriodicalId":224651,"journal":{"name":"2021 13th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128093866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Cole−Cole-type relaxation process reflecting the motion of the water and solute molecules is observed in the GHz region. The water content dependence of the shape of the dielectric relaxation spectra markedly deviates from that of bulk state, while the relaxation time is similar to that of each bulk solutions. This characteristic dielectric property is interpreted that the fractionation of the hydrogen bond network formed by water and solute molecules occurs caused by the molecules being constrained to the inner walls of the wood voids.","PeriodicalId":224651,"journal":{"name":"2021 13th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122980737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
