It is an important cause of pain and disability in elder adults. Trimetazidine and sitagliptin have anti-inflammatory effects. Material and Methods: Fifty adult Wister male albino rats divided into 4 groups. Group Ι: Five rats received a single dose of 1ml 0.9% saline intra-articular. Group ΙΙ: Fifteen rats received a single dose of 1mg monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) diluted in 0.9% saline intra-articular and 1 ml of 1% gum acacia per gavage daily for 4 weeks. Group III: Fifteen rats received a single dose of 1mg MIA diluted in 0.9% saline intra-articular concomitant with oral administration of trimetazidine suspended in 1% gum acacia, in a dose of 10 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks. Group IV: Fifteen rats received a single dose of 1mg MIA diluted in 0.9% saline intra-articular concomitant with oral administration of sitagliptin suspended in 1% gum acacia, in a dose of 10 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks.Results: Intra-articular injection of MIA induced arthritis. Trimetazidine and sitagliptin insignificantly increased the circulating levels of serum inflammatory cytokines; COMP, IL-1 β, and TNF α. While the circulating levels of TGF-β1 in the arthritis group was significantly reduced compared to the control group. Concomitant administration of trimetazidine with MIA showed normal organized chondrocytes and normal bone trabeculae. Concomitant administration of sitagliptin showed improvement of histological features, normal organized chondrocytes, normal bone trabeculae and decreased resorption cavities. Histomorphometric evaluation of the percent area of the articular cartilage thickness revealed a significant decrease in arthritis group and a significant rise in both sitagliptin and trimetazidine groups.Conclusion: Sitagliptin and trimetazidine may have protective effect against arthritis.","PeriodicalId":22420,"journal":{"name":"the egyptian journal of histology","volume":"174 3-4","pages":"0-0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91489002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs) can exert a therapeutic action by regenerative capacity in intestinal damage. This study was done to demonstrate the possible therapeutic effect of MSCs in methotrexate induced intestinal injury in adult male albino rat.Methods and results: Male albino rats were used in this study. Group A (Control group), subgroup A-I rats received saline for 2 weeks and subgroup A-II received saline for 2 weeks then phosphate buffer saline once intraperitoneal (IP). Group B rats received MTX (14 mg/kg/week) intraperitoneal (IP) for 2 weeks. Group C, rats received MTX (14 mg/kg/week) intraperitoneal (IP) for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, they were injected IP with MSCs (2 × 106 cells in 500 𝜇L PBS once). Groups AI&B were anaesthetized and sacrificed after 2 weeks while groups AII&C were sacrificed after 4 weeks. Blood samples were drawn from the tail vein to measure myeloperoxidase (MPO) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Small intestinal specimens were obtained for evaluation by light microscopy. CD4+, and CD8+ immunohistochemistry and statistical analysis were applied. Significant increase in MPO and significant decrease in VEGF were reported in Group B. MTX induced pathological alterations in small intestinal tissues, mean number of mast cells and goblet cells associated with increased CD4+ and CD8+ immunoexpression. Nearly all changes were ameliorated following MSCs therapyConclusion: MSCs have significant effect in repairing the deleterious action of MTX in small intestinal tissues.","PeriodicalId":22420,"journal":{"name":"the egyptian journal of histology","volume":"91 1","pages":"0-0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85214286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Forty adult male albino rats were divided randomly into four groups; group I (control group ) , group II (steroids treated group ), group III (trained group ) and group IV (steroid treated-trained group) . Both groups II and IV were administered 5 mg/kg body weight, of Nandrolone Decanoate twice a week by intramuscular injection for 5weeks. Group III and Group IV were subjected to training protocol in the form of 4 sets of 10 jumps into water for 5 weeks . At the end of the experiments the rats were sacrificed and their quadriceps muscles were processed for histological and immunohistochemically procedures .Results: Group II (steroid treated group) had hypertrophy of muscle fibers and disrupted striations with wide spacing between them. In addition to areas of degeneration and congested blood vessels. Group III had hypertrophy of muscle fibers. Group IV exhibited normal histological appearance of the muscle fibers. Minute areas of focal degeneration and congested blood vessels were observed.Conclusion: Administration of (AAS) was presented with noticeable degenerative changes in the quadriceps muscles of the adult male albino rats . These hazards effects could be attenuated in the group of rats that were subjected to (AAS) in concomitant with training exercise.","PeriodicalId":22420,"journal":{"name":"the egyptian journal of histology","volume":"378 1","pages":"0-0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74869428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key mechanisms of Al -induced toxicity in the liver are recognized as reactive oxygen species (ROS), development of free radicals, oxidative stress, and lipid peroxidation. L-carnitine is a conditionally important amino-acid (4-N-trimethylammonium-3-hydroxybutyric acid). By L-carnitine, long-chain fatty acids are taken into the mitochondria contributing to the metabolism of cellular energy. Also, it can enhance the antioxidant status by accelerating the free radicals removal from cells.Objective: The purpose of this report was to determine the possible detrimental impact of AlCl3 and to evaluate for the first time the possible potential hepato-protective effect of exogenous L-carnitine supplementation in ameliorating these possible deteriorations. Materials and methods: Thirty two rats were subdivided into equal four groups, Group I: Control rats, Group II: Rats treated with L-carnitine at a dose of 200 mg/kg. b.wt., Group III: Rats treated with Alcl3 at a dose of 100 mg/kg. b.wt., and Group IV: Rats treated with L-carnitine and Alcl3 (200 and 100 mg/kg. b.wt., respectively). All procedures of given materials to animals were orally once daily for one month. Results: The current investigation showed that Alcl3 ingestion caused an obvious hepatic deterioration evidenced by increased liver enzymes level and imbalance in oxidant/antioxidant status. This was accompanied by histological changes and increased Ki-67 and caspase-3 immunoreactivity. These effects were significantly improved by L-carnitine supplementation.Conclusion: These findings suggested that L-carnitine may have a protective effect against hepatic damage sustained by Alcl3 through its antioxidative property and its inhibitory effect on prolife ration and apoptosis.","PeriodicalId":22420,"journal":{"name":"the egyptian journal of histology","volume":"50 1","pages":"0-0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80967918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lacrimal sac and bone specimens for each case were collected during DCR from consecutive patients with PANDO presenting to the outpatient clinic of “Ain Shams University” hospitals, then sent for histopathological examination.Results: Fifty-one lacrimal specimens were obtained from a total of 49 consecutive patients who underwent external DCR for clinical PANDO at the time interval from March 2018 to March 2020 at “Department of Ophthalmology, Ain Shams University” operating theatre. The mean patients' age was 44.82± 13.63 years (range 21- 75). Among the 49 patients recruited, 6 (12.2%) were males and 43 (87.8%) were females. Non -specific lacrimal sac pathology was present in all 51 samples (3.9% acute inflammation and 96.1% chronic non-specific inflammation). Of the chronic non-specific inflammation specimens, mild degree of inflammation was seen in 40.8%, 44.9% showed moderate chronic inflammation, whereas only 14.3% showed severe inflammatory changes.
