Unfortunately, none of these modeling languages, taken individually, is capable of fulfilling all the needs in the development of complex distributed embedded applications, from the modeling, analysis and validation stages to the automatic generation of the implementation. Overall, their strengths and weaknesses are somewhat complementary and an integrated approach could be the most promising solution. In this paper, we present a framework for integrated code generation in complex real-time distributed systems, where MBD approaches are used for the analysis and the generation of the functional (or behavioral) part, and MDA approaches (SysML/EMF) are used for modeling the execution platform, the task model and the deployment of functions onto the platform resources. This paper presents a meta-model for the description of execution platforms and an open-source code generation framework, based on the selected mapping of the functional components on the chosen platform.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124083951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having into account the properties of these topologies presented in the article, their inclusion in solar facilities allows increasing the performance of the whole installation. Thus, the design, simulation and implementation of a G-type power gyrator are carried out throughout the text. In addition, in order to obtain the maximum power from the photovoltaic solar panel, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is mandatory in the energy processing path. Therefore, the practical implementation carried out includes a control loop of the power gyrator in order to track the aforementioned maximum power point of the photovoltaic solar panel.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129560493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the little flexibility of such approaches does not allow continuous operation under dynamic environments. The Flexible Time-Triggered (FTT) communication paradigm is a promising approach to introduce the required flexibility. However, for continuous operation reliability is also crucial. Replicated star topologies are particularly well-suited to provide an increased reliability. Nevertheless, for FTT-CAN, the implementation of FTT for CAN, no replicated star topology that takes advantage of FTT-CAN's features to increase reliability and error containment exists. This paper discusses important design questions that need to be solved to create such a novel solution.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129584921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample images were analyzed and processed through a custom made application developed in LabVIEW from National Instruments using IMAQ Vision Toolkit. The results show that a reliable diameter, mass and yarn faults determination can be obtained using IP techniques. Step-by-step algorithms used to determine yarn mass parameters are described. The presented approach allows improving products quality as well as the possibility of increasing the efficiency of the textile industry.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"242 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130082074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This implicates a support for developers in the engineering of such distributed automation systems. For this reason, this paper focuses on the design support of distributed automation systems by use of design patterns. Important aspects are the consideration of non-functional requirements in design patterns and the integration of design patterns into the engineering workflow. This paper presents a design pattern template which supports developers with predefined automation functions which are assigned to a system function and in their selection of an appropriate distribution of automation functions, taking relevant non-functional requirements into account.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130147765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper comprises a concept for MAS, which are implemented partly on the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)-layer and partly on the field device layer, trying to combine the advantages found in other works that used MAS on only one of these layers. The concept contains a software architecture, a communication structure between different runtime platforms (MES and field devices) and processes, including an adaptive path finding algorithm. An evaluation showed that the proposed MAS is comparable in production performance, while increasing fault tolerance compared to a static legacy implementation.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132893559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main benefits lie in improving software quality by detecting potential defects and problematic code constructs in early development stages. Today, static code analysis is widely used and numerous tools are available for established programming languages like C/C++, Java, C# and others. However, in the domain of PLC programming, static code analysis tools are still rare. In this paper we present an approach and tool support for static code analysis of PLC programs. The paper discusses opportunities static code analysis can offer for PLC programming, it reviews techniques for static analysis, and it describes our tool that implements a rule-based analysis approach for IEC 61131-3 programs.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131011415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the area of automation control, the permanent shift of the requirements and the prevention of side-effects are key points. In addition, adaptability and flexibility in manufacturing systems continue to gain importance. This paper proposes an approach to achieve evolvability in IEC 61131-3 based software modules, from a structural point of view, i.e., starting from an individual line of code. We based our design of an evolvable ISA88 Equipment Phase on the Normalized Systems theory recently introduced. It seems indeed possible to develop evolvable IEC 61131-3 based modules with the existing, commercially available development environments. However, our guidelines require a disciplined programming style in extending software, based on a limited set of anticipated changes.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"575 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121336452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Largely different requirements regarding network structure, powering possibility, latency, data rates, and reliability, lead to the need of suitable systems and protocols. An approved way to implement an energy aware wireless network is the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) strategy. In this work we propose two different TDMA schedules for highly reliable sensor data collection with sample rates of 10 Hz and analyze and compare them regarding reliability and energy consumption. A standard coin cell can power a sensor node for more than 2 month with a sensor data loss smaller than 10-3 percent at 3% PER in the radio channel.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121347980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is carried out by a distributed algorithm implemented in each network sensor node. In this approach, the network configures itself in order to adjust the number of messages sent periodically, establishing a tradeoff between the number of sent messages and the quality of data fusion (QoF). A prototype was implemented and experimental results show the effectiveness of this proposal.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126253929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
