This paper presents a real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation tool that simultaneously integrates concepts from control and real-time computing to allow further investigation into these links. It allows the experimental prototyping and analysis of real-time control systems on real hardware - but within a simulated plant environment -and thus allows the potential impacts of hardware and software architecture on control performance and dependability to be evaluated. The structure of the proposed tool is described, along with a preliminary experiment that has been performed to illustrate some of the test facility capabilities.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"1 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114034774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whereas, IoT use cases range from intelligent infrastructure and smart cities to health care and shopping assistants, it is important to note that factory automation could benefit as well from an IoT approach. In this paper, we argue that there will not be one IoT but many IoTs that could differ in the type of infrastructure they are running or applications they support. In IoT@Work we focus on the potential of making manufacturing environments more agile and flexible. We explain how the IoT-centric architecture for manufacturing also needs a deep understanding of the manufacturing system and its state today. We, therefore, do a reverse engineering based on the requirements and the description of the agility expected in the automation system itself.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127803462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike real plants, the utilization of simulations cannot cause damages and it saves time and costs during series of experiments. A shortcoming of current simulation models is the complicated runtime integration into legacy industrial systems and platforms, as well as ad-hoc design phase, introducing manual and error-prone work. This paper contributes to improve the efficiency of simulation model design and integration. It utilizes a semantic knowledge base, implemented by ontologies and their mappings. The integration uses the Automation Service Bus and the paper explains how to configure the runtime integration level semantically. The main contributions are the concept of semantic configuration of the service bus and the workflows of simulation design and integration.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128646506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this architecture tasks are wrapped within CORBA methods that are activated by a central node, the Orchestrator, over a LAN. Previous versions of FTT-CORBA focused on CPU-bound applications in which the communication time was neglectable. However, in some cases, this assumption is not valid. This work presents an add-on service, integrated within the FTT-CORBA middleware, aimed at minimizing the interference among task activation and data distribution messages. By using this new service the Orchestrator will be capable of controlling the transmission of data distribution packages from the distributed nodes by dynamically allocating them in specific time slots.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116381482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to [10] about 50% of the resources in a software project are spent for testing. Often, research activities, with the goal to automatise this process, cover only the generation of test cases and their execution. The important topic of generating meaningful test data is often left out. Approaches based on the analysis of source code exist, but are inapplicable to perform black-box testing or test message-based services with more complex data types. Thus, the test data is usually gathered either manually by a test developer or randomly. The manual way requires a lot of experience on developers' side and the random approach produces a large amount of redundant test data covering identical use cases. This paper proposes a new approach to automatically generated test data for black-box testing exploiting genetic algorithms (GA). To enhance the quality of the test data micro genetic algorithms are used as a filter. With this approach a test developer can produce a limited number of qualitative test data in a controlled way, even if the source code is not available. This paper will examine the different components of a GA and what requirements they must fulfill to be suitable for a test data generation.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117186638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the existing digital hardware contains processing registers that have finite precision and the representation can be restricted to a finite number of bits. Thus, the controller must be implemented on these limited word length control units in the context of fast sampling rate. The drawback of the classical discrete time representation appears at high sampling frequency when discrete z- representation of the model can cause instability. This disadvantage is even stronger as the number of bits used for finite word length implementation is smaller. In this paper, a predictive controller designed in discrete time δ domain is proposed and it is successfully applied for a driveline system, considering different word length representation.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115626124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dissolved oxygen tracking problem is one of the most complex and fundamental issue of biological processes. The paper proposes a new multiregional control strategy for dissolved oxygen tracking problem. The aeration system is included in overall control structure. The control mechanism within the operating point area is based on PI controllers with the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang method of defuzzification. The proposed control strategy is designed and tested based on the real data records. It is applied to biological wastewater treatment plant at Nowy Dwor Gdanski, Northern Poland and is validated by simulation.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127440076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rules are based on the characterization of the process dynamics by three parameters, i.e. the static gain KP, and the gain K180 and frequency ω180 where the process phase lag is 180o, which can be determined by a simple manual experiment. In particular, tuning rules have been devised in order to minimize the integrated absolute error with a constraint on the maximum sensitivity MS. Different tuning rules have been obtained for a batch of plants and for several robustness levels in terms of MS. The setpoint weight is also exploited to improve the setpoint following performance because the PI controller is tuned by optimizing the load disturbance rejection performance. In particular, explicit tuning rules are given in order to select the optimal setpoint weight to minimize the integrated absolute error. Some comments relating to industrial practice are offered in this context.","PeriodicalId":222799,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125362731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
