A critical challenge in data collection with the autonomous UAV is the buffer overflows at the ground sensors and packet loss due to lossy airborne channels. Trajectory planning of the UAV is vital to alleviate buffer overflows as well as channel fading. In this work, we propose a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient based Cruise Control (DDPG-CC) to reduce the overall packet loss through online training of headings and cruise velocity of the UAV, as well as the selection of the ground sensors for data collection. Preliminary performance evaluation demonstrates that DDPG-CC reduces the packet loss rate by under 5% when sufficient training is provided to the UAV.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117319164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, we propose a novel on-the-fly edge mechanism, named EADAS (Edge Assisted Adaptation Scheme for HTTP Adaptive Streaming), located at the edge node that assists and improves the ABR decisions on-the-fly. EADAS proposes (i) an edge ABR algorithm to improve QoE and fairness for clients and (ii) a segment prefetching scheme. The results show a QoE increase of 4.6%, 23.5%, and 24.4% and a fairness increase of 11%, 3.4%, and 5.8% when using a buffer-based, a throughput-based, and a hybrid ABR algorithm, respectively, at the client compared with client-based algorithms without EADAS. Moreover, QoE and fairness among clients can be prioritized using parameters of the EADAS algorithm according to service providers’ requirements.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116880457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among such applications, the use of LiDAR for indoor tracking and quantifying visitors’ interest (and ensuring safe distancing) is still not widely explored. Technologies based on wireless signals and video captures are typically used for indoor tracking, but they deficits concerning the lack of accuracy of captured signals or the lack of user privacy in the case of traditional surveillance cameras. Despite introducing tracking challenges inherent in the detection based on light reflection, LiDAR-based approaches represent a relatively low-cost solution for accurate indoor tracking. Thus, this paper presents LaFlector, a LiDAR-based indoor tracking system introducing tracking heuristics capable of detecting, classifying, and tracking several objects simultaneously, which are recorded and dynamically displayed in a 2D coordinate system. LaFlector was evaluated based on a low-cost 2D LiDAR hardware (Slamtec Mapper M1M1) and capable of detecting moving objects with high precision, showing in practice that a LiDAR-based can be used to track visitors’ interest and count the number of moving objects.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"2016 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127480250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a quantifier holds value in distinguishing the relative complexities of IoT network traffic in an increasingly heterogeneous IoT device landscape, enabling network operators to anticipate and provision for, as well as manage existing network infrastructure. In this paper, we apply relevant contemporary techniques used to quantify the complexity of regular network traffic to a modern, comprehensive empirical IoT network traffic dataset. The results were interpreted to discover their merits and pitfalls. Based on our findings, we contend there is a need to develop new quantitative measures that can accommodate the diversity of IoT traffic.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121342286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our model evaluates the trustworthiness of each vehicle using two main modes: 1) Direct Trust Computation DTC related to a direct connection between source and target nodes, 2) Indirect Trust Computation ITC related to indirectly communication between source and target nodes. The principal characteristics of this model are flexibility and high fault tolerance, thanks to an automatic trust scores assessment. In our extensive simulations, we use Total Cost Rate to affirm the performance of the proposed trust model.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134486866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to tackle them, we advance the energy packet grid (EP grid), which is an alternative energy grid paradigm, inspired by selected design principles of the Internet. The EP grid breaks up the grid into self-organizing, decentralized EP cells wherein EP devices exchange energy packets. Power synchronicity is independently solved within EP cells, leading to a higher robustness of the overall EP grid. We focus on the interplay between the energy plane and the communication plane, i.e., how power electronics and the ability to exchange messages enable an EP grid. In this context, we introduce SEPT, an EP transfer protocol that allows two neighboring EP devices to exchange energy packets. SEPT takes care of the interplay between the energy plane and the communication plane, adding a new interdisciplinary perspective to the field.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"109 9-10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123177217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the vehicles mobility, their requested services (e.g., infotainment services) should frequently be migrated across different MEC servers to guarantee their stringent quality of service requirements. In this paper, we study the problem of service migration in a MEC-enabled vehicular network in order to minimize the total service latency and migration cost. This problem is formulated as a nonlinear integer program and is linearized to help obtaining the optimal solution using off-the-shelf solvers. Then, to obtain an efficient solution, it is modeled as a multi-agent Markov decision process and solved by leveraging deep Q learning (DQL) algorithm. The proposed DQL scheme performs a proactive services migration while ensuring their continuity under high mobility constraints. Finally, simulations results show that the proposed DQL scheme achieves close-to-optimal performance.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129090285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anomalies in BGP can have several causes (mis-configuration, outage and attacks). These anomalies are classified into large or small scale anomalies. Machine learning models are used to analyze and detect anomalies from the complex data extracted from BGP behavior. Two types of data representation can be used inside the machine learning models: a graph representation of the network (graph features) or a statistical computation on the data (statistical features). In this paper, we evaluate and compare the accuracy of machine learning models using graph features and statistical features on both large and small scale BGP anomalies. We show that statistical features have better accuracy for large scale anomalies, and graph features increase the detection accuracy by 15% for small scale anomalies and are well suited for BGP small scale anomaly detection.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132037009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this paper proposes a solution to this problem, running directly on the blockchain platform in the form of a smart contract, enabling deposit of digital assets into the contract for safekeeping, along with a list of security questions. The proposed solution can be used, for example, in online games. By providing proof of knowing answers to questions, a player can access his account without his private key. In contrast to Multipath TCP (MPTCP) or SCTP, it also works for UDP traffic and its deployment is easy. It requires neither full access to all uplink endpoints nor a multipath protocol implementation in every host. Despite its potential, research on MT is sparse. Most known prototypes use either round robin or MPTCP schedulers that are not able to fully utilize the potential of MT. This paper proposes and evaluates LLMT, a novel specific MT packet scheduling algorithm that achieves very low latency and high throughput for reliable and unreliable traffic. In multiple testbed experiments, we compare LLMT with several schedulers including LowRTT, OTIAS and AFMT for different network configurations. For TCP traffic, LLMT gains low latency and high throughput. For fixed rate UDP traffic, jitter and latency are the lowest among all competitors.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124822070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
