The BLE standard contains basic requirements to implement this behavior. However, it does not specify how channels should be classified and disabled, leaving the details up to the implementations. In this paper, an implementation is presented and evaluated, based partially on existing work. A new algorithm for re-activating channels that were previously disabled in order to allow for operation in dynamic environments with changing background interference is proposed and demonstrated to deliver improvements over existing work, resulting in better connection stability. Finally, an evaluation under real-world conditions confirms the improvements to BLE connections that were previously only shown in controlled testing environments.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121863717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, we propose a novel mechanism named DRo (for Deep Routing) for data-scarce domains like security. The DRo approach builds upon some of the recent developments in Deep-Clustering. In particular, it exploits the self-augmented training mechanism using synthetically generated local perturbations. DRo not only allays the challenges with sparse-labeled data but also offers many unique advantages. We also developed a system named DRoID that uses the DRo mechanism for enhancing the performance of an existing Malware Detection System that uses (low information features like the) Android implicit Intent(s) as the only features. We conduct experiments on DRoID using a popular and standardized Android malware dataset and found that the DRo mechanism could successfully reduce the false-alarms generated by the downstream classifier by 67.9%, and also simultaneously boosts its accuracy by 11.3%. This is significant not only because the gains achieved are unparalleled but also because the features used were never considered rich-enough to train a classifier on; and hence no decent performance could ever be reported by any malware classification system till-date using these features in isolation. Owing to the results achieved, the DRo mechanism claims a dominant position amongst all known systems that aims to enhance the classification performance of deep learning models with sparse-labeled data.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126896386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When designing a network using these sensors, one critical aspect is the longevity and self-sustainability of these devices. For extending the lifetime of these sensors, radio frequency energy harvesting (RFEH) technology has proved to be promising. In this paper, we propose CURE, a novel framework for RFEH that effectively combines the benefits of cell-free massive MIMO (CFmMIMO), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) to provide seamless energy harvesting to IoT devices. We consider UAV as an access point (AP) in the CFmMIMO framework. To enhance the signal strength of the RFEH and information transfer, we leverage RISs owing to their passive reflection capability. Based on an extensive simulation, we validate our framework’s performance by comparing the max-min fairness (MMF) algorithm for the amount of harvested energy.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131213100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, applications may have diverse latency requirements: certain latency-sensitive processing operations may need to be performed at the edge, while delay-tolerant operations can be performed on the cloud, without occupying the potentially limited edge computing resources. To achieve that, we envision an environment where computing resources are distributed across edge and cloud offerings. In this paper, we present the design of CLEDGE (CLoud + EDGE), an information-centric hybrid cloud-edge framework, aiming to maximize the on-time completion of computational tasks offloaded by applications with diverse latency requirements. The design of CLEDGE is motivated by the networking challenges that mixed reality researchers face. Our evaluation demonstrates that CLEDGE can complete on-time more than 90% of offloaded tasks with modest overheads.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127478424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Packet collision, channel contention, and queue buildup contribute to packet loss but are difficult to manage in conventional TCP/IP architecture. This work explores a data-centric approach based on Name Data Networking (NDN) architecture, which is considered more suitable for wireless ad-hoc networks. We show that the default NDN transport offers better performance in linear topologies but struggles in more extensive networks due to high collision and contention caused by excessive Interests from out-of-order data retrieval and redundant data transmission from improper Interest lifetime setting as well as in-network caching. To fix these, we use round-trip hop count to limit Interest rate and Dynamic Interest Lifetime to minimize the negative effect of improper Interest lifetime. Finally, we analyze the effect of in-network caching on transport performance and which scenarios may benefit or suffer from it.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116192770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, configuring real-time Ethernet networks while maintaining the desired QoS is challenging due to the dynamic nature of OT networks and the high number of configuration parameters. This paper introduces a Software-Defined Network (SDN)-based self-configuration framework for the time-sensitive networks (TSNs). Unlike standard TSN, we remove end-host-related dependencies and put streams initially on default paths to extract traffic characteristics by monitoring network traffic at edge switches. Communicated to a central SDN controller, these characteristics allow moving streams to optimal paths while maintaining hard real-time guarantees, for which we also formulate an optimization problem. According to the results, although the proposed approach increases the average delay of critical frames by less than 1%, a certain level of real-time guarantee can be provided without prior knowledge of the streams.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126973341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, we collect and analyze cellular network connections from 1400 antennas for all users in the city of Rio de Janeiro and its suburbs from March 1, 2020 to July 1, 2020. Our analysis reveals that the total number of cellular connections decreases to 78% during the lockdown phase and then increases to 85% of the pre-COVID era as the lockdown eases. We observe that user mobility starts increasing around 3 weeks before the end of lockdown, with the trend continuing into the post-lockdown period. We also design an interactive tool that showcases mobility patterns in different granularities and can help government officials take informed actions to control the spread of the disease.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128671218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recently proposed Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) approach promises to give users these properties. However, we argue that without addressing privacy at the network level, SSI systems cannot deliver on this promise. In this paper we present the design and analysis of our solution TCID, created in collaboration with the Dutch government. TCID is a system consisting of a set of components that together satisfy seven functional requirements to guarantee the desirable system properties. We show that the latency incurred by network-level anonymization in TCID is significantly larger than that of identity data disclosure protocols but is still low enough for practical situations. We conclude that current research on SSI is too narrowly focused on these data disclosure protocols.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123707268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
