It is possible to induce traffic flow between off-path remote hosts—sending request packets to one host, with a spoofed source IP, will cause the first host to send reply packets to the other. The challenge for MM is to measure the rate at which these packets arrive at the second machine. Our key observation is that if the second machine has a global IP-ID counter, the arrival of packets can be monitored remotely, using probes from MM. By observing the rate of increment in the global IP-ID counter, MM estimates the path capacity between remote hosts. Telemetron shows high accuracy; on average, the path capacity reported is 92.5% of the theoretical limit.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123079001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There exist several approaches to detect versions of web application software from the client-side. However, the existing solutions often require in-depth knowledge about each software, have high resource demands and use aggressive scanning techniques. In this work we present a novel approach which is able to build fingerprints automatically for different web applications using a passive scanning technique. Apart from hashes of asset files we also propose to use XPath profiling for the fingerprinting process, which, to the best of our knowledge, has not been done in similar research before. Our evaluation with three widely used content management systems (CMS), namely Joomla, Drupal and TYPO3, shows that our approach can correctly detect the minor release of a web application for up to 95% of all versions.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116972481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to frequent communication, FEEL needs to be adapted to the limited communication bandwidth. Furthermore, the statistical heterogeneity of local datasets’ distributions, and the uncertainty about the data quality pose important challenges to the training’s convergence. Therefore, a meticulous selection of the participating devices and an analogous bandwidth allocation are necessary. In this paper, we propose a data-quality based scheduling (DQS) algorithm for FEEL. DQS prioritizes reliable devices with rich and diverse datasets. In this paper, we define the different components of the learning algorithm and the data-quality evaluation. Then, we formulate the device selection and the bandwidth allocation problem. Finally, we present our DQS algorithm for FEEL, and we evaluate it in different data poisoning scenarios.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116214921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduction of a wireless communication and networking inside the BMS in order to replace the traditional wired bus brings multiple benefits. As it is a critical application, the network has stringent requirements such as high reliability, low energy consumption, and bounded latency. In this paper, we propose a network architecture based on an enhanced version of the IEEE Std 802.15.4 Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) Medium Access Control (MAC) mode running over the physical layer of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). To orchestrate the data transmissions, we present a reliable and predictable schedule based on the Low Latency Deterministic Network (LLDN) Group Acknowledgement (GACK) method which dynamically manages the retransmissions. We implement a WBMS for the Renault Zoe battery pack to demonstrate that our proposed architecture achieves 100% of network reliability with bounded latency, and low energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116199053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast to Multipath TCP (MPTCP) or SCTP, it also works for UDP traffic and its deployment is easy. It requires neither full access to all uplink endpoints nor a multipath protocol implementation in every host. Despite its potential, research on MT is sparse. In this paper we provide a comprehensive Evaluation of several state-of-the-art MT approaches and compare them to Tunnelling-over-MPTCP. In several experiments we compare throughput for reliable traffic as well as jitter for unreliable throughput. We find that HTMT (High Throughput Multipath Tunnelling, a specific MT approach) delivers comparable jitter with a considerably higher throughput for different path configurations.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131511551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historically, virtual machines have been the backbone of the cloud industry, allowing cloud providers to offer virtualized multi-tenant solutions. Today, virtualization by lightweight process containers continue to increase in popularity and make up a larger portion of the cloud, often replacing virtual machines, especially in fog and edge computing. Virtualization can enhance flexibility by enabling support for live migration and failover. Live migration is the process of moving a running instance of a virtual machine or container from one host to another and failover ensures that failures will be automatically detected and the instance restarted, possibly on another host.This paper presents an overview of current migration techniques, and metrics that can be used for comparison. We also present a proof-of-concept implementation and description of a system that enables support for both live migration and failover for containers by extending current container migration techniques. It is able to offer this to any OCI-compliant container, and could therefore potentially be integrated into current container frameworks. In addition, measurements are provided and used to compare the proof-of-concept implementation to the pre-copy migration technique. We achieve a downtime equal to, and total migration time lower than that of pre-copy migration at the cost of an increased amount of data needed to be transferred.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131208250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proxy variant creates one MPTCP connection for each TCP connection, resulting in a large number of parallel uncoordinated MPTCP connections, which leads to underutilizating the available capacity, suboptimal scheduling, and increased loss rate. The tunnel variant encapsulates TCP over MPTCP, stacking two reliability layers, which leads to large number of spurious retransmissions, an issue known as TCP meltdown. We propose a new solution, BOOST, that eliminates the problems with both variants by multiplexing TCP connections over a single persistent multi-path connection. BOOST also takes a hybrid approach to multi-path scheduling combining load balancing and scheduling by transmitting short flows across a single path, avoiding HoL blocking, and opportunistically transmitting long flows across multiple path, utilizing left-over capacity. Evaluations show that BOOST provides better throughput, lower losses, and retransmissions compared to MPTCP","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124922846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present the design, implementation, and evaluation of UDT+FEC, a software system that provides high throughput, low latency, and low-variance latency on wide-area networks (WAN), especially for large data transfers. Using 2D-XOR forward error correction (FEC), implemented as an extension of the UDP-based Data Transfer (UDT) system, we show that it is possible to match the throughput and latency of other state-of-the-art tools, but also provide the added property of lower variance in the interarrival times of messages at the receiver. With a variety of macro- and micro-benchmarks, we quantify the relative advantages of UDT+FEC, when compared to using GridFTP combined with CUBIC, BBR, and parallel streams.We find that UDT+FEC has substantially lower variance in the latency of message arrivals (approximated by message interarrival times, for one-way transmissions) when compared to different combinations of CUBIC, BBR, and parallel streams.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"316 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127420519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
