To overcome the limitations of direct slices’ monitoring, network tomography (NT) is seen as a promising solution. NT-based solutions require constraining monitoring traffic to follow specific paths, which we can achieve by using segment-based routing (SR). This allows deploying customized probing scheme, such as cycles’ probing. A major challenge with SR is, however, the limited length of the monitoring path. In this paper, we focus on the complexity of that task and propose MonGNN, a standalone solution based on Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and genetic algorithms to find a trade-off between the quality of monitors’ placement and the cost to achieve it. Simulation results show the efficiency of our approach compared to existing methods.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128116201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze cellular network connections from 973 antennas for all users in the city of Rio de Janeiro from April 5, 2020 to July 2, 2020. We design a Markovian model that captures the mobility across municipalities. We then combine the transition probabilities of the Markov chain with the number of COVID-19 cases in a municipality during a particular week in the design of our mobility-aware COVID-19 case prediction models to predict the number of cases for the following week. Our experiments demonstrate that our mobility-aware models significantly out-perform a baseline mobility-agnostic linear regression model in terms of metrics such as Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE).","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132933822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, streaming UGC presents unique challenges for video delivery. When dealing with the technical complexity of managing hundreds or thousands of concurrent streams that are geographically distributed, UGC systems are forces to made difficult trade-offs with video quality and latency. To bridge this gap, this paper presents a fully distributed architecture for UGC delivery over the Internet, termed QuaLA (joint Quality-Latency Architecture). The proposed architecture aims to jointly optimize video quality and latency for a better user experience and fairness. By using the proximal Jacobi alternating direction method of multipliers (ProxJ-ADMM) technique, QuaLA proposes a fully distributed mechanism to achieve an appropriate solution. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture through real-world experiments using the CloudLAB testbed. Experimental results show the outperformance of QuaLA in achieving high quality with more than 57% improvement while preserving a good level of fairness and respecting a given target latency among all clients compared to conventional client-driven solutions.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114579768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper leverages the capability of Software-Defined Networking, Network Function Virtualization, and edge computing to introduce a CDN-Aware QoE Optimization in SDN-Assisted Adaptive Video Streaming (CSDN) framework. We employ virtualized edge entities to collect various information items and run an optimization model with a new server/segment selection approach in a time-slotted fashion to serve the clients’ requests by selecting optimal cache servers. In case of a cache miss, a client’s request is served by an optimal replacement quality from a cache server, by a quality transcoded from an optimal replacement quality at the edge, or by the originally requested quality from the origin server. Comprehensive experiments conducted on a large-scale testbed demonstrate that CSDN outperforms other approaches in terms of the users’ QoE and network utilization.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114681886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enabling such highly flexible architecture that meets the need of I4.0 remains challenging. Moreover, significant automation in critical infrastructures need robust security, in terms of strong authentication and data integrity assurance, without constraining the performance requirements. Thus, it is essential to design an I4.0 compliant hybrid SCADA that has the capability to adopt decentralized communications for new-generation devices. This paper presents an SRAM-based PUF Authentication, Integrity, and Non-repudiation Peer-to-Peer (SPAIN-P2P) protocol that meets the security requirements of modern SCADA. The SPAIN-P2P ensures data flow protection by integrating lightweight cryptographic algorithms and Physical Unclonable Functions in P2P-based SCADA network. The implementation and the promising performance results of the proposed SPAIN-P2P protocol reveal its suitability and adaptability for integrating in next generation SCADA environments.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129517038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This integration will help mobile terrestrial networks reach a worldwide coverage. However, this ultimate ubiquity also comes with its set of challenges to overcome. One of the main issues is the seamless integration of NTNs into the existing mobile network standard. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive architecture integrating NTNs as slice-aware backhaul links. This architecture remains fully compliant with the 3GPP standard. For this purpose, we propose an end-to-end slice model integrating NTNs and 5G networks. Then, we implement this model on a 5G-satellite testbed, adding new functional components to interconnect both networks at the control and data plane levels. Lastly, we evaluate the performances of our method using the aforementioned testbed by monitoring each slice and their related Quality of Service requirements.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127980053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ITS plays a very important role in making citizens’ lives easier in term of mobility, safety, quality of life and security. Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) became an inseparable component of ITS. The current architecture has been facing many issues due to VANET’s characteristics such as high mobility of its nodes and it is still vulnerable to important security attacks which threatens its main security services such as availability, data integrity, authentication and privacy. We propose a new VANET architecture called FCSDVN-ML, in which we combine three emerging paradigms: Software-Defined Network (SDN), Fog Computing (FC) and Machine Learning (ML) to improve security in VANETs. In this paper, we described our architecture components and we discussed its potential performance against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack using the hierarchical firewalls.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127790509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a multi-domain context, SFC placement is a challenging problem due to limited knowledge of the infrastructure of the local domains, which complicates the process of finding the optimal placement solutions. On the other hand, Reinforcement Learning has gained momentum as a tool for decision-making, allowing agents to construct and improve policies using feedback from the environment. In this paper, we leverage Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to perform SFC placement on multiple domains. We devise a hierarchical architecture where the local domain agents and the multi-domain agent are trained using different DRL models to perform SFC and sub-SFC placement while satisfying the SLA requirements.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116695921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dynamics of a large-scale LEO network topology induces critical problems on routing efficiency and scalability. Existing approaches either suffer from such routing problems, or have limited resilience against unpredictable link/node failures. We propose Area-based SatellitE Routing (ASER), a fully distributed routing protocol for LEO networks with high efficiency and scalability. ASER uses a hierarchical routing mechanism, which groups satellites into areas, in such a way that the inter-area routing never changes due to handovers of inter-satellite links. Routing can be quickly reconstructed with little overhead when either regular or unpredictable topology changes occur. We develop ASER based on OSPF, and propose an efficient algorithm to construct the forwarding table, enabling standard packet forwarding. Simulations validate that ASER can reduce the convergence time by more than 50%, and reduce computation and control overhead by orders of magnitude.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129094772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such factors should provide both ease of use and an adequate level of privacy protection, while being easy to implement, operate and maintain, even for applications with thousands of users. As an approach meeting these requirements, we outline Scalable and Privacy- Preserving Continuous Authentication (SPCAuth). SPCAuth determines risk levels for actions that should be authenticated, without requiring explicit user interactions. It analyzes different aspects of user behavior by means of machine learning methods, while preserving the privacy of the affected individuals. SPCAuth trains only a single model per aspect of user behavior being considered, based on observations of all users, ensuring scalability and increasing accuracy for users with infrequent activities. In two experiments, we have confirmed that this key concept enables a scalable and accurate user authentication.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114987395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
