This study stimulated a natural system that is interdependent among several organism species. The ecosystem consisted of nutrient circulation in the integrated aquaculture systems (Cyprinus Carpio Linn. or fancy crap), cultivation of aquatic plants (Vallisneria asiatica or spiral tape grass) and plants in soil (Lactuca sativa var.crispa L. or green oak). The 14 fancy craps started with 50-500 g in a 5.6 m of pond volume. Used fancy craps waste excretion in the nutrient water was utilized in the circulation system by feeding 40 spiral tape grasses planted in 2.5 m of pond volume and to green oaks in the pot size of 60 x 200 cm. The results indicated that water quality in fish pond showed Dissolved Oxygen (DO) ranging from 6.27 to 7.15 mg/L and pH ranging from 7.2 to 8.9. Nitrate, ammonia and phosphate were in the range of 5.52-8.09, 0.195-1.49 and 0.124-0.202 mg/L, respectively. All nutrients tended to continuously decrease from starting the experiment to the end of the experiment. Specific growth rate of fancy craps was 3.45 and survival rate was 100%. The shape of fancy craps was long, slender, cylinder and beautiful color, which did not change from the beginning of typically commercially available fancy craps. The length and weight of spiral tape grasses increased 2.5 times. On the 45 day, green oak yielded was 2,750 g/m, which was slightly higher than that of control set by hydroponic system. Therefore, this system can be used by farmers to reduce the use of water resources, fertilizers and cost savings. ","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114686233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Merril) genotypes comprising 25 improved varieties from Indonesia and 41 introduced genotypes was estimated using ten Single Nucleotide Amplified Polymorphism (SNAP) markers to complement the morphological characters searched from public domain. A number of quantitative morphological characters (plant height, seed weight and yield) showed high variations (CV>20%), while the diversity of qualitative morphological characters was relatively moderate (0.25-0.50). Yield was strongly correlated with seed weight, but moderately correlated with oil content. Eigen values indicated the highest variation on stem determination, flower color, seed coat color, plant height, seed weight, protein content, oil content and yield, suggesting their contribution as selection descriptors. Indonesian improved varieties less varied than introduced genotypes according to the morphology. The relationship among genotypes according to morphological characters was not relevant with the origin. The dendrogram constructed based on genetic similarity among 66 genotypes using SNAP identified four main clusters with a cut off of 0.59. Indonesian improved varieties were more narrow their genetic than introduced genotypes. Indonesian improved varieties were closer to genotypes from East Asia than those from United States, indicating their origin relation. Notably, phylogenetic analysis based on SNAP markers confirmed clearer separation than morphological characters. This information could be useful for efficient identification of genotypes and selection in the future soybean breeding in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132753291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in rice grain depends on the heavy metal bioavailability in the medium that provide nutrient sources to plant. Throughout paddy life-cycle from seed germination to development of mature seeds, paddy plants cultivated in flooded field are exposed to alternating anaerobic condition and aerobic condition. The aim of this study is to assess whether these two different paddy field conditions influence heavy metal bioavailability in soil and heavy metal accumulation in Bubut paddy plants cultivated at highland of West Coast Sabah, Malaysia. Heavy metal uptake characteristic of Bubut paddy in different part (root, straw and grain) were also determined for baseline data that can be used for selective breeding or phytomining. Bubut paddy plants were uprooted together with soil that were collected randomly at 3 months old age (reducing (anaerobic) condition) and harvest season (oxidizing (aerobic) condition) for heavy metal analysis by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Higher bioavailability of heavy metal at oxidizing condition in soil and Bubut paddy plant were observed compared to reducing condition. Bubut paddy was found to be a potential candidate for Cr, Ni and Zn phytoextraction. Heavy metal concentration in Bubut rice grain is below the maximum permissible limit of Malaysia Food Regulation 1985 (MFR 1985). A comprehensive water irrigation management plan is required to strategically develop at West Coast Sabah to reduce bioavailability of toxic heavy metals and reduce heavy metals toxicity risk in rice consumption.","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130549721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Agriculture forms a significant part of a country’s food production effort. Many factors affect agriculture production from preharvest to post-harvest periods. This includes factors such as overproduction, underproduction, pest and disease attacks, and market price fluctuations. A deeper analysis of these problems revealed that the root cause was farmers and other stakeholders in the agriculture domain not receiving the right information at the right time when they need it most. They need both published information such as crop varieties, fertilizers, suitable soil types and real-time dynamic information such as current crop production levels, market prices, and pest and disease outbreaks. Smart Computing offers an innovative way to generate situational information by providing published knowledge as actionable information and making users act on this information. In here, we extend our previous work to provide timely actionable information via crop calendar feature by re-conceptualizing based on information flow in Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Also, we adopted empowerment theory to create empowerment-oriented farming processes to motivate farmers to produce crowdsensed information and aggregated it to generate new situational knowledge on pest and disease outbreaks. This created a holistic information flow model for agriculture domain like energy flow in biological ecosystems enabling us to create a Digital Knowledge Ecosystem for Agribusiness. This system is now being trialed in Sri Lanka and India among thousands of farmers.","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"8 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131862024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to evaluate newly-developed peanut breeding lines for large seed and early maturity in the East, Thailand. The study was conducted in two experiments. On farm experiments were laid out in randomized complete block design with six replications for both experiments. Data were recorded for above ground fresh and dry weight, number of pods, pod dry weight, number of seeds, seed weight, seed size (100-seed weight), shelling percentage and harvest index. In experiment I, (Luhua 11 x China 97-2) F6-11-4 was the best performer in breeding line group. It showed high 100-seed weight (64.3 g), high shelling percentage (58%) and high harvest index (0.55). In experiment II, (Luhua 11 x China 97-2) F5-13 and (Luhua 11 x KK 60-3) F5-11 revealed the greatest characters for 100-seed weight and harvest index. (Luhua 11 x China 97-2) F5-13 had 77.9 g and 0.59 of 100-seed weight and harvest index, respectively. (Luhua 11 x KK 60-3) F5-11 had 73.7 g and 0.58 of 100-seed weight and harvest index, respectively. Moreover, all breeding lines were early mature (110-115 days after planting). The results of this study would be useful to select the best peanut varieties for recommendation and release to Thai farmers. ","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133730979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty-six 10-month-old ewes were selected for a Bioclip® shearing comparison experiment. Ewes were weighed and stratified by body weight and breed, and then, divided into a control (conventional shearing, n = 10) and Bioclip® treatment group (n = 16). Treatment group animals were each given a 2.5 ml Bioclip® injection formula (7.5 mg/ml epidermal growth factor or EGF) subcutaneously on the inguinal bare skin area, after which a fleece retention net was placed on each animal. Sheep were fed alfalfa hay for 1 week prior to the Bioclip® injection, and 4 weeks postinjection under a semi-sheltered pen, until fleece removal at the 28th day, with wool regrowth monitoring at 5 weeks postharvest. Posttreatment wool regrowth monitoring was conducted and compared for the control and Bioclip® groups at 5 weeks post wool harvesting. There was no difference in the posttreatment body weight, fleece weight, weight gain, fiber diameter, and wool regrowth rate between the control and Bioclip® treatment group. Whereas, fleece staple length and regrowth fiber length measured significantly (P < 0.01) longer for Bioclip®harvested wool than conventionally shorn sheep. This was the first time Bioclip® was used experimentally on US wool sheep and resulted in a simultaneous and complete shedding of fleeces. The results suggest that Bioclip® can improve wool clip quality and animal welfare as well as reduce farm labor intensity. ","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"65 Supplement 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130266174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seedling tray has become the main carrier of seedling cultivation, and the large number of tray recycling is an inevitable trend. In view of the problems that the existing seedling tray cleaning equipment needs to be soaked before washing with water, poor circulating water quality, secondary adhesion and so on, the vertical spray-washing seedling tray flushing mode, combined with the secondary filtration cycle, can achieve the cleaning effect and reduce the water consumption at the same time. Through research on equipment performance, it is determined that under the condition of 8 m 3 /h, 0.58MPa water pump, the maximum nozzle pipeline pressure of 0.31MPa can be achieved by selecting nozzles with an inner diameter of 1.1mm and a spray angle of 65°, and a 3×4 array arrangement. When the conveying speed is 91mm/s, the cleaning rate reaches 95.28%. By using 80-mesh stainless steel orifice plate to filter water, when the cleaning water flow is greater than 3 m 3 /h, the cleaning water level can be kept stable and the water quality is good. The design effectively improves the efficiency of seedling tray cleaning, meets the need of reuse and cleaning of seedling tray, and has reached the popularization and application.","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131053123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project aimed to investigate if heat stress priming at the root-zone (RZ) could be used to induce thermotolerance through the studies of root morphology, productivity and photosynthesis of temperate vegetables aerponically grown in the tropics. Two high valued temperate vegetable crops were used for this study: Lactuca sativa (cv. Canasta) and Eruca sativa (cv. Arugula). Heat stress at the RZ priming was studied by exposing the plants to three different root-zone temperature (RZT) treatments: (1) 25C-RZT, (2) 25C-RZT→42C-RZT (defined as non-hardening) and (3) 25C -RZT →38 CRZT→42C–RZT (defined as hardening). It was found that RZ heat stress priming did not have any negative effects on the root morphology for both vegetable crops. Compared to Arugula, Canasta had heat hardening effects which increased productivity at high RZT of 42C with better photosynthetic performance. Since RZ heat hardening stimulated shoot growth of Canasta, this finding has practical significance on using RZ heat stress priming to induce thermotolerance of certain temperate vegetable crops grown in the tropics that could enhance productivity at low production cost.","PeriodicalId":222254,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114817729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that equilibrium moisture content of C. nutans increased with increasing water activity at a constant temperature for both desorption and adsorption isotherms. In contrast, the equilibrium moisture content decreased when the temperature increased at a constant water activity for all isotherms. The sorption isotherms exhibited Type III behaviour or J-shaped curve according to Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) classification. It was found that Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer (GAB) and Peleg models were the best-fit to the experimental moisture isotherms. The maximum net isosteric heat of sorption values were found to be 70 kJ/mol and 13 kJ/mol for desorption and adsorption respectively.
