Every organization aspired to the new digital world needs to answer three main questions: 1) What kind of internal changes should to be undertaken in order to take advantage of the digital cloud based environment; 2) How they leverage the massive amount of data in their work; 3) How they use this new world for innovation. Once they have found the right path for themselves organizations realize that during the 4−th industrial revolution the implementation of a new technology is no longer the obstacle to develop but the people in the organization who don't want to question everything and are not ready for a change. Hence, the toughest question to answer is how to create a digital culture. Here, we see the new role of the universities and business schools, who need to get out of their comfort zone of conservatism and build up new trusty relationships with all stakeholders involved within the education process. Because the digital transformation has changed completely the nature of the relationships with the customer, it is 24/7 like it or not thanks to the new connectivity, the numerous opportunities to choose the eco system you want to belong, etc. The current eco system of developing sustainable business is affected massively by this revolutionary shift and is changing the enterprise landscape for good. As a result of awareness of the necessary changes, some organizations will thrive, others will disappear.","PeriodicalId":221469,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Annual Conference of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125126155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The I-ACE Project was a European Union Erasmus KA2 project which explored the potential use of an automatic sign language translator in the school education system. In addition to the schools' application, the project constructed a demonstrator system to capture a lot of views from general users through a Porto Metro Station pilot installation and through focus group meetings with the deaf community across Europe. This paper presents one aspect of the findings of this project, that relating to the complexities of communicating with the deaf. The findings are used to review the generic communication model between any two individuals, and, as a consequence, the general communication model for education. One specific update is made to this generic model, that of the addition of technical context. Examples from the pilot study and focus group meetings are used to illustrate why technical context is appropriate and relevant to include. The paper concludes with some general recommendations for educators.","PeriodicalId":221469,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Annual Conference of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE)","volume":"33 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123599392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spectral characteristics of the signals based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm are obtained. A potential task for identification of the type of disturbing impacts with application of artificial intelligence, trained by Scaled Conjugate Gradient technical approach in partial data samples for signals in the time and frequency domains is considered. Target probabilities of membership for UWN signals and IFN signals with and without FFT processing are defined. Procedures for synthesis of Feed-forward neural architectures with “Sigmoid” and “Softmax” activation functions in the hidden and output layers at different amounts of hidden neural units within the limits of 5 to 25 were performed. The data on basic criteria for cross-entropy synthesis and classification accuracy are analyzed. Neural networks for identification of spectral signals and signals with superposed noise without FFT with 20 and 11 hidden neurons and with the best accuracy ratios of 73.40% and 98.00% were selected. It is established that the use of FFT in the signal processing is not achieve the desire effect for improvement of classification parameters. An analogous approach is applied to an attempt to identification of sine and square signals without preprocessing, were the presence of UWN are replaced by Gaussian White Noise (GWN), and where the highest achieved identifiable accuracy is 94.20%.","PeriodicalId":221469,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Annual Conference of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125128901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a recent study, the authors of this paper noted that there has been and there is still an on-going discussion on the low percentage of females in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related studies. Some initiatives of engineers in the USA and Canada and current discussions in the IEEE community support the idea of adding an A (for Arts) in STEM leading to STEAM. With the element of gamification in many subjects and associated elements of Art in many disciplines, this strategy may help to improve the number of female students, as confirmed by a study performed in 2016. Topics with the hue of art are found in many STEM subjects and the staff responsible for courses can tune the content to accommodate these in already existing programs by putting more emphasis on “Art”. This paper addresses possibilities of adding elements of “Art” in existing courses with Biggs' Teaching and Learning, Intended Learning Outcomes and Assessment with gender balance in focus. The example of the Shad, Canada's successful STEAM and Entrepreneurship Live-in program for high-school (i.e. pre-university) students are cited. With respect to Biggs' model and using problem based learning (PBL), we point out, how the curricula in our universities in electrical engineering, IT and system engineering have many similarities with the pedagogical goals of the Shad program. This paper presents possibilities of incorporating elements of “art” related topics in disciplines under focus in the EAEEIE-community. Experiences from some courses in our universities are also provided with some pertinent conclusions for STEAM studies with enhanced gender balance on national, regional and international levels.","PeriodicalId":221469,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Annual Conference of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125802957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implemented methodology changes have been analyzed and evaluated. The exam failure rate dropped from its initial level of 52% in 2009 to 34% in 2017 for Math level 1 courses and dropped from 21% in 2009 to 14% in 2017 for Math level 2 courses. The recent observations and statistics is presented in this paper. The merits of our approach to teaching mathematics together with innovative approaches of partners from across Europe, form the basis for a design of a new methodology that will be implemented and tested in 10 higher education institutions in Greece, Israel, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Uzbekistan, within a framework of Erasmus+ Capacity Building project iTEM (Innovative Teaching Education in Mathematics).","PeriodicalId":221469,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Annual Conference of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126371383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
