We recruited cases from labor room irrespective of age and gender, while the exclusion criteria were all candidates taking oral or IV iron therapy. Birth weight of babies was recorded from chart of patients. Independent t- test was used to see the difference in birth weight of anemic and non-anemic mothers. We observed a statistically significant difference in the concentrations of hemoglobin of the mothers with birth weight of new born babies (P=0.001).","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"111 39","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to increased globalization and adaptation of virus in every environment, the virus has spread more rapidly compared to sever acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Most of the patients of COVID 19 present with fever. Contemporary treatment targets control of fever and other symptoms through various antipyretic, nonspecific antiviral, and antibiotic drugs etc. In spite of using these majors to treat the cases of COVID 19, some patients develop complications related to respiratory and other systems. There is no any specific diet and lifestyle guideline for the patients of COVID 19 with fever. Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle recommendations mentioned for Jvara (Fever) of various origins can help the patients for their speedy recovery without further complication of the diseases. The diet and lifestyle modifications advocated in Ayurveda also felicitate the immune system to fight against infective organisms and strengthen the immune system and infected organ, which reduces the chances of re-infections.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"111 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was designed to evaluate phytochemical components, of aqueous leaf extract of Telfairia occidentalis and its antioxidant potentials against free radicals. The phytochemical component of the extract was determined by standard methods while the functional groups of the phytochemicals were carried out using FTIR techniques. The antioxidant abilities of aqueous leaf extract of Telfairia occidentalis were evaluated by various antioxidant assays, including 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radicals, scavenging activities. These various antioxidant activities were compared with standard antioxidants such as ascorbic acid and Gallic acid. Qualitative analysis of the extract revealed that the extract is rich in phenol, coumarins, saponin, tannin, anthraquinone, betacyanin, glycosides, oils and resin, quinones, flavonoids, alkaloids, sterols, vitamin C, terpenoids, sterols and phytosterols. Moreover, the results of FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of aromatic CH bend, C-O stretch, phenol, aromatic ring stretch, alkenyl stretch, hydroxyl group (alcohol) in the extract. The extract exhibited high reduction capability and powerful free radical scavenging, especially against DPPH radical and hydrogen peroxide. The extract shows higher inhibition activities than both ascorbic and Gallic acid. The results obtained in the present study clearly established the antioxidant potency of aqueous leaf extract of Telfairia occidentalis, which may account for some of the medical claims attributed to this plant.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"115 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anal fissure is second most common disease seen in Ano-rectal clinics. Modern surgical techniques like manual anal dilatation is advocated for fissure in ano, but it weaken the internal sphincter associated with risk of incontinence. Hence the proper and effective therapy is required for the treatment of chronic anal fissure which is simple, safe and effective, without any complication, avoidance of incontinence of stool and recurrence. Seethodaka thaila is Sri Lankan medicated oil widely used for treatment of aseptic wounds, burns and post-surgical wounds in Ayurveda. Material and Methods: Ten patients of chronic fissure in ano were treated with seethodaka thaila local application for postoperative wound, after fissurectomy and dorsal sphincterotomy, daily for 4 weeks. Results: Post-operative fissure wound healed within 4 weeks of time duration. The patients got complete relief of sign and symptoms after four weeks and no recurrence till one year. Conclusion: On the basis of this Pilot study, it is concluded that dressing with seethodaka thaila followed by fissurectomy and dorsal sphincterotomy is effective in wound healing.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"109 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141217137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
