The holistic science of Ayurveda has gained global attention in the recent years as oral diseases are largely preventable through Ayurveda routines. Shalakya Tantra is a branch of Ayurveda which deals with the treatment of organs located above shoulders. Although dentistry is not explained as a separate subject in Ayurveda, it is included under Shalakya Tantra. There are nine openings of physical body and oral cavity is one among them. Ayurveda suggests frequent and regular cleaning of these openings. Digestion process begins in the mouth, oral cavity being the chief entrance, its hygiene is important. Oral cavity includes teeth, gingiva and other supporting structures of the tooth, palate, throat, oral mucosa and lips. The traditional knowledge of Ayurveda to prevent and treat diseases was passed by word of mouth from generation to generation over the centuries and is accessible to common man. Preventive aspects through diet and lifestyle modifications have been emphasized in Ayurveda. Ayurveda oral hygiene techniques are safe, effective, economical, easily available, usually without side effects and has long lasting results. They are self-care methods which can be carried out at home easily.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127975605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gaertn (Sapotaceae), commonly known as Karité, is used in the treatment of many skin and digestive ailments. In order to justify this traditional use, the present study was undertaken to evaluate the method of preparation, the antifungal activity, the chemical composition and the acute toxicity of the bark of Vitellaria paradoxa on Candida albicans. Total aqueous (LeA) and 70% ethanolic (LeE) extracts of the bark of Vitellaria paradoxa were prepared and tested in vitro. Ethanolic extract (LeE) showed the highest yield (55.5%) and was found to be more effective on the growth of Candida albicans with a minimum fungicidal concentration (CMF) value of 1.56 ± 0.02 mg / ml and a 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.39 ± 0.21 mg / ml, certainly justifying the use of the plant in traditional medicine. At the end of the acute toxicity assessment test, the LD50 was estimated to be greater than 2000 mg / Kg orally. The phytochemical screening of the various extracts showed the presence of chemical compounds which justify their antifungal activities by the use of Vitellaria paradoxa. This work has provided a scientific basis for the use of Vitellaria paradoxa in traditional pharmacopoeia, particularly in the treatment of fungal pathologies.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134263426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These disorders constitute a considerable social and economic burden in all societies, without being limited only to those in which life expectancy is longer, according to the latest censuses carried out in Venezuela, the average rate of male patients suffering from this condition is 1,700 to 5,200 cases per year and of female patients is 2,700 to 9,000 cases each year. This index gives a great opening to homeopathic medicine in Venezuela, due to its great results and efficacy when carrying out different treatments in patients with degenerative arthritis.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132321492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ayurveda is not only a medical science but also a complete science of life, which has the three Sub pillar i.e. Ahara (food/diet) Nidra (sleep) and Brahmacarya (abstinence) among which Ahara (food) is considered as the most important. Food (Ahara) and lifestyle (Vihara) plays significant role on one’s overall health and diseases. Concept of Rasa has been used to guide the nutrition of the body hence, Ayurveda concept of nutrition includes six rasas which helps in leading a healthy life by individual. A Balanced diet comprises of all the six rasas. There is an order to be followed at the time of consuming food. The concept of Rasa which has been explained in Ayurveda is primary guidance for common man to take care of nutrition and to sustain health. Hence it’s very essential to validate many Ayurvedic concepts to establish their importance in day to day life.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131500918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Doctors and researchers are concentrating that a central player in the fight against the novel coronavirus is the immune system that it can even be helpful for its therapy, since that the virus is important, but the host response is at least as important, if not more important in this situation with absence of remedy it is essential for the shift of complementary and traditional medicine from the marginal status it holds to a significant role in international health care , whereas Ayurveda main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. Ayush ministry considered that and released one protocol to boost immune human system (both physical and psychological) to win the battle, this article is a try to address the guidelines of this protocol by explaining it.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"114 44","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phytochemical screening using some standard methods indicated that alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, phenols and tannins were present. The quantitative analysis showed the value of flavonoid as (6.25±0.5)%, Alkaloid (6.3±0.3)%, Saponin (8.01±0.6)%, Phenol (1.16±0.01)% and Tannin (1.03±0.2)%. The HI8300 multiparameter photometer result of the mineral element analysis showed that the leaf has nine out of the ten minerals analyzed for in various concentrations, the result showed that one kg of the leaf contain 0.072 mg of chromium, 15 mg of iron, 4 mg of manganese, 2.4 mg of iodine, 16 mg of phosphorus, 0.1 mg of calcium, 0.88 mg of zinc, 160 mg and 150 mg of magnesium and potassium respectively, while copper was absent. The leaf extract was subjected to different chromatographic techniques which include thin layer and column chromatograph for separation and purification, Antimicrobial screening using disc diffusion method revealed that the column eluates were active against some tested microorganism with the following zone of inhibition, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (7- 15 mm), Eschericia coli, (3-18 mm), Shigella species (12-17 mm) Staphylococcus aureus (1-8 mm), Aspergillus nomius (2-4 mm) and Aspergillus flavus (4 mm). The result portrayed that the eluates were highly bactericidal and fungicidal and of broad spectrum activities. The antimicrobial activities were compared with known standard antibiotic like ciprofloxacin and ketoconazole and was discovered that the eluates were potent and effective in both fungi and bacteria close to the antibiotics. The results scientifically validate the efficacy of the plant as acclaimed ethonomedically.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"114 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty-five (25) questionnaires were randomly distributed in each of the four (4) wards to make a total of hundred (100) questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed using frequency distribution table and Chi-square (X2). The result Shows that part of the plant species used in preparation of the herbal used in the treatment of ante natal and post-natal disorders include leaves; roots; bark; fruits; leaves and barks; roots and leaves. A total of fourteen (14) plants species belonging to ten (10) families were documented for antenatal while a total of twelve (12) plants species belonging to ten (10) families were documented for post-natal Majority of the herbs are consumed in fresh forms. Crushing is the major (66.0%) method of preparing the herbal /medicine. Also, drinking method is the major (64.0%) method of administration of the herbs/plants. Based on the result, it was further reveals that anemia (26.0%) had major symptoms associated with ante natal while protracted labour (26.0%) was the major symptoms associated with postnatal. Demographic characteristic of the respondents was also examined. The percentage of male was (15.0%) while that of female counter part was (85.0%). majority (41.0%) of the respondents were between 31-40-years age bracket and 73.0% are married and 58.0% of the respondents had qur’anic education while 12.0% had no formal education and majority (42.0%) of the respondents are traditional practioners. Chi-square(X2) analysis revealed that all the independent variable at (P>0.01) probability level the results gave no significant relationship (P>0.01) with the symptom associated with ante-natal and postnatal and the parts of the plant used. However, it is recommended that modernization of health care in Kaduna Southern Guinea Savanna could benefit from integrating aspect of traditional practice and plant used in to health care modernization programme through active involvement of local people. This would also facilitate the implementation of culturally appropriate health care that respect traditional knowledge and contribute to bio-culturally sustainable development of the area.","PeriodicalId":221440,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Natural & Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":"115 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141216663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
