The key point of our policy is to prefetch new contents based on the popularity of their categories and not on the popularity of each content individually. Our goal is to increase the Quality of Experience (QoE) of mobile users by increasing the cache hit ratio. For this reason, a Grant-Free (GF) scheduling model has intuitively appealed to 5G research community. In 6G, this communication paradigm coined eXtreme ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (xURLLC) is expected to demand even tougher requirements, which seems to make the GF scheduling not optional but mandatory for 6G xURLLC.In this paper we propose a probabilistic GF scheduling model to allocate resource for URLLC applications. The nature of a GF scheduling model naturally resolves the latency issue raised in URLLC, and the reliability issue can be under control by tuning various parameters including radio resources we allocate.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128499720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We evaluate a normalized compression factor to quantity the transmission efficiency of information bits for the interpolated schemes. We propose a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)-based convolutional precoding to achieve a better protection of information bits depending on the channel conditions. In the experimental part, we evaluate the new rate-profiles in compliance with the SNR-based convolutional precoding by means of sequential stack decoder and demonstrate performance-computational complexity trade-offs valuable for practical usage of PAC codes. The new optimized code with e.g. interpolated parameter equal to 0.3 brings around 50 percent of gain in terms of block error rate at high SNR values along with a slight reduction in a number of paths in stack decoder compared with a Reed-Muller baseline rate-profile.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117159171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To mitigate security threats, Intrusion Detection Systems have been proposed. Still, most of them can achieve high accuracy only by having access to the application layer of the flows, which is problematic in terms of privacy. This paper presents a neural network model based on a hybrid CNN-LSTM architecture to detect several attacks in the network traffic at the Edge of IIoT using only features from the transport and network layers. Besides improving privacy, the proposal achieves 97.85% average accuracy when classifying the traffic as benign or malicious and 97.14% average accuracy when classifying 15 specific attacks in a dataset containing IIoT traffic. Moreover, all the code produced is available as free software, facilitating new studies and the reproduction of the experiments.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124347770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SD-WAN has recently emerged as a key solution to manage enterprise WANs, allowing fine-grained, policy-based control over traffic flows. In this paper, we propose a framework based on Reinforcement Learning for the effective use of multiple channels connecting distributed sites of a company. We evaluate it in a realistic, emulated network with a centralized SDN controller. Results show that under heavy load conditions, our approach leads to a 33% reduction in the number of QoS policy violations compared to a benchmark approach. Smaller average latency and connectivity costs are also obtained.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131361691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early exits allow the inference of samples in advance, based on the fact that some features are learned at DNNs’ initial layers. However, usage of early exits can slightly decrease performance. Partitioning enables the shallowest part of the model to reside at the edge while the deeper layers reside in the cloud. Deciding whether samples must be sent to the cloud at each early exit is time consuming, increasing the total inference time. Hence, reducing this time while maintaining the model performance is currently an open challenge. In this paper, we propose a Decision Early Exit (DEEx), implemented at the first early exit, aiming to reduce the total inference time by skipping unnecessary evaluations at early exits, which may not able to improve the model’s performance. To this end, the DEEx compares a predefined decision threshold with the prediction confidence level for each sample and decides whether the sample must be offloaded. We assess DEEx through a comparative analysis that investigates the influence of different values for the decision threshold on the inference time. Our results show that there is a cost benefit between the inference time and the threshold. Using DEEx in a simulated BranchyNet, we can reduce the inference time by around 20% while maintaining the same accuracy achieved when the samples are offloaded.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130562518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, an excessive load of beacons can drastically deteriorate the network performance. This work presents a novel adaptive vehicular traffic-aware strategy to compute the beacon interval in a position-based protocol. The strategy relies on three mobility factors: vehicular density, the mean difference of speed among neighbors, and the spatial distribution of neighbors. Its effectiveness is proven through extensive simulations in an urban mobility scenario using the packet delivery ratio, the average end-to-end delay, overhead, and processing time as the performance metrics. The results show that our approach maintains a high delivery ratio and low End-To-End delay, overhead, and processing time regardless of the density of the surrounding vehicular traffic. The results also show that our method uses the available beacon interval range more efficiently than another traffic-aware approach.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129908837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this concern, this paper employs flexible Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to provide active monitoring services in a cooperative way. Firstly, we comprehensively consider the energy consumption and network connectivity constraints of the UAV system to establish a multi-UAV-based mobile monitoring model aiming at maximizing task energy efficiency. Then, we formulate the collaborative multi-UAV surveillance problem as a multi-agent Markov decision process to determine the optimal strategies for UAVs. Next, we propose a Collaborative Multi-UAV Deployment (CMUD) algorithm based on Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) by designing an effective reward function and improving the experience replay scheme. In addition, we introduce a policy integration scheme for the proposed CMUD algorithm to solve the problem that the UAV overly relies on the movement strategies of other UAVs in the non-stationary multi-UAV traffic monitoring environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CMUD algorithm can effectively accelerate the exploration of movement strategies with the guarantee of stable connectivity and efficiently improve task energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132570555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of relevant information introduces more uncertainty at the receiver side, and a stochastic formulation needs to be adopted in order to characterize such randomness based on the availability of a short-length block of received symbols. Closed-form expressions for the probabilistic model are presented for both M-PAM and M-QAM constellations and flat fading channel. Finally, numerical results show that, to ensure a target block error probability, a trade-off between block length and a proposed uncertainty factor must be carefully considered for performing data communication under such constraint.","PeriodicalId":221354,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128393800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
