By employing the comparison principle and the linear matrix inequalities approach, some less conservative and easily verified sufficient conditions for impulsive synchronization of this class of chaotic systems are derived, these new sufficient conditions can be applied to analyze the impulsive synchronization of the Chua's oscillators. Moreover, the numerical simulation of Chua's oscillators under impulsive control shows the effectiveness of the proposed theory, and obtains better estimation of the boundary of the stable region than the existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90205604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This controller is robust for unstructured model uncertainties, resilient against bounded feedback control gain perturbations in achieving optimality for general performance criteria to secure quadratic optimality with inherent asymptotic stability property together with quadratic dissipative type of disturbance reduction. For the system model, unstructured uncertainty description is assumed, which incorporates commonly used types of uncertainties, such as norm-bounded and positive real uncertainties as special cases. By solving a state-dependent linear matrix inequality (LMI) at each time step, sufficient condition for the control solution can be found which satisfies the general performance criteria. The results of this paper unify existing results on nonlinear quadratic regulator, H∞ and positive real control to provide a novel robust control design. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated by simulation of the control of inverted pendulum.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88900728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal is to ensure the comfort and the security of the users in simulators applications. The principle is to reconstruct the state vector of the system by sliding mode observers and to compare the estimated outputs with those measured as residuals. In this work, a multi-observers technique is used. It consists of designing multiple observers such that each observer must be robust to noises and to other uncertainties but sensitive to each actuator or sensor fault. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the approach.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88326094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To eliminate the mechanical sensors, an observer is designed to identify the speed of PMSM based on a variable-structure model reference adaptive system, in which a sigmoid function with an adaptive gain is applied to replace the conventional signum function to cope with the chattering problem caused by the discontinuous switch function. Then, a sliding mode speed regulator is developed to overcome the limitations of traditional proportion integration scheme. Desired flexibility, adaptability and high precision are obtained and the stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed by the proposed strategy. The results of simulation by MATLAB/Simulink indicate that the speed could be estimated and adjusted precisely, and the dynamical property of system is evidently improved.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76590467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parameters in S-systems have significant biological meanings, yet difficult to be estimated because of the nonlinearity and complexity of the model. Given time series biological data, its parameter estimation turns out to be a nonlinear optimization problem. A novel method, auxiliary function guided coordinate descent, is proposed in this paper to solve the optimization problem by cyclically optimizing every parameter. In each iteration, only one parameter value is updated and it proves that the objective function keeps nonincreasing during the iterations. The updating rules in each iteration is simple and efficient. Based on this idea, two algorithms are developed to estimate the S-systems for two different constraint situations. The performances of algorithms are studied in several simulation examples. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76071843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two sets of binary switching sequences taking values of 1 and 0 are introduced to account for the stochastic phenomena of nonlinearities and sensor saturations which occur and influence the dynamics of the system in a probabilistic way. To further reflect the realities of transmission failure in the measurement, missing observation case is also considered simultaneously. By appropriately constructing a time-varying Lyapunov function and utilizing the stochastic analysis technique, sufficient criteria are presented in terms of a set of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs) under which the filtering error dynamics achieves the prescribed H∞ performance over a finite horizon. Moreover, at each time point k, the time-varying filter parameters can be solved iteratively according to the explicit solutions of the RLMIs. Finally, a numerical simulation is exploited to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design scheme.","PeriodicalId":22127,"journal":{"name":"Systems Science & Control Engineering: An Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85249030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
