The first is an account book application based on goal oriented accounting and the second is a calorie intake monitoring application. We also present our ideology of developing Mobile Phone Template applications and transforming them into other application domains to gain language and regional independence. Our applications have been tested on low end mobile phones.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131491455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SIP is an application-layer protocol and operates on the TCP/IP stack, which means that it inherits all associated IP vulnerabilities. It has, therefore, possibility that SIP systems can be damaged by Flooding-based Denial of Service (DoS). Previous mechanisms for detecting a denial of service attack generally check the number of incoming packets and notify a system administrator that the system is under attack if too many messages are incoming. Although being relatively accurate and low-cost, they cannot help relying on decision of security experts, which is labor-intensive and human-mediated. Our research is to develop a defense mechanism which analyzes a flooding attack and takes countermeasures automatically, without being human-involved. It can minimize the amount of damage by reducing the time of analysis and countermeasure by automation.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131271648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Air-traffic-control (ATC) radars, for example, are often circular-scan radars that can provide range and azimuth measurements, which can be used to locate an airliner's latitude and longitude. Radars such as these typically do not have the capability to locate an object in three dimensions, thereby providing information regarding the object's altitude. Knowledge of aircrafts' altitudes, however, is highly desirable given the demands put on ATC by the crowded skies of modern aviation.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132289944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The magnetic polarization can be switched by applying an electric field; and the electric polarization, by applying a magnetic field. We report here our attempts using three approaches for fabricating multiferroic ferrites: autoclave, microemulsion and spin-casting. All three methods are based on a precursor solution prepared by dissolving stoichiometric amount of bismuth(III) nitrate and iron(III) nitrate in ethylene glycol. In the autoclave synthesis, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide were dissolved in DI water with surfactant (Triton x-100, Tx-100) and then the precursor solution was added. The solution was transferred to an autoclave at either 165 or 185 °C for reaction for 24 hours. The two temperatures led to two different bismuth ferrite nanocrystals, Bi2Fe4O9 (165 °C) and BiFeO3 (185 °C). For microemulsion synthesis, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide were dissolved in DI water and added to an oil solution (cyclohexane and n-butanol) with added surfactant, Tx-100, as “Emulsion I”. “Emulsion II” was made by adding precursor in an oil solution (cyclohexane and n-butanol). “Emulsion I” was allowed to react with “emulsion II” at 80 °C for 3 hours. A non-crystalline bismuth ferrite with a 1:1 atomic ratio for Bi∶ Fe was obtained. The spin-casting method produced the BiFeO3 (BFO) thin film with the desired quality. The quality of the resulting BFO thin film depended strongly on the spinning rates and annealing temperatures. The morphology of all samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) was used to confirm the elemental composition in bismuth ferrite samples. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used for establishing crystalline structures.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116866629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Present human health issues cannot be resolved without considering the influence of the natural environment on human organisms. In light of recent advances in physics this important problem can no longer be ignored. The technological level of today's electrical engineering progress enables us to develop special instruments for scanning and mapping vast areas of landscapes to reveal potentially harmful factors. Geo-pathogenic zones (GPZ) are a major cause of natural impact on humans. Interaction of Earth's electromagnetic fields with local electro-physical heterogeneities are considered as a base of GPZ. Extremely low frequency electric fields, ELFEF, influencing the human brain, have been experimentally confirmed. The spinning electric field, another important phenomenon which can affect humans, has been revealed and established experimentally. The instruments depicting negative influence of GPZ can also be employed for water prospecting due to their capability to detect ELFEF and spinning fields. The results of this research are shown as electro-physical mechanisms of GPZ.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133189902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both online and offline systems exist to help study and protect animals within this population. In both cases auto-detection of species-specific calls plays a vital role in localizing individual animal by searching time-frequency passive acoustic data. This research presents an experimental system, referred to as the NRW-CRITIC, for automatic detection of the NRW contact call. In general, the CRITIC uses a combinatorial classifier approach to integrate a series of existing machine learning algorithms; each designed specifically for NRW contact call identification. The proposed configuration consists of several recognition methods running in parallel; these include linear discriminant analysis, artificial neural network (NET) and classification regression tree (CART). This paper presents the details for the NRW-CRITIC and discusses the approach used to combine multiple independent decisions into a single result. A side-by-side performance comparison, between the CRITIC and a well-known method, the feature vector testing (FVT), is summarized. Performance metrics are evaluated based on a large database of acoustic recordings consisting of over 58,000 NRW contact calls from various locations, including two critical habitats, Great South Channel and Cape Cod Bay. Results indicate the FVT algorithm yields a 74.7% detection probability with an error rate of 4.35%. In comparison the CRITIC, operating at similar information level yields a 78.02% detection probability with a 3.25% error rate, exceeding the performance of the FVT. Performance was also measured using data from a multi-channel acoustic array located in Massachusetts Bay. A side-by-side comparison of array presence is discussed for two separate days. Results show that with the FVT and CRITIC operating at 0% error for array presence, the FVT method had 18,769 and 24,469 false positives for the Massachusetts Bay datasets respectively. With the same 0% error condition the CRITIC provided successful detection with significantly lower number of false positive rates: 1,072 and 2,324 calls, respectively. Future extensions of this experimental work are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116153117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
