Many of these computations require the use of first principle electromagnetic codes to perform full wave analyses. Unfortunately, these methods are very time consuming and memory prohibitive due to the inherent complexity of the systems being designed. At present, the models currently being used for analysis of electromagnetic computations could take days or even weeks to formulate a solution. Since real-time computation analysis is essential for efficient design, Northrop Grumman has been working extensively to discover ways in which to make these necessary calculations faster and more efficient. The rate at which signals are sampled in order to capture all of the information of a signal is equal to twice the Fourier bandwidth of the signal (Nyquist rate). However, we have found that many important electromagnetic problems have a property called sparseness, where some of the Fourier coefficients are negligible thus allowing the number of samples required to capture all of the signal's information to be reduced. This approach, called compressive sampling (CS), can be used to exploit signal sparseness and allow signals to be sampled without losing information. We have been developing the concept of CS, applying it to reduce the computational time required for complex electromagnetic problems and interfacing this capability with first principle electromagnetic codes to perform full wave analyses.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122508818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the DoD and aerospace community, the electronic battlespace has evolved to a wideband environment that continuously expands. Next-generation electronically scanned array (ESA) requirements will include receive apertures with high gain, low sidelobes, continuous wideband, dual polarization multifunctional output, transmit power similar to or greater than current systems and transmit/receive (T/R) modules located at the array element. RF photonics insertion into antenna systems may expand in areas including RF pre-processing and filtering, RF front-end technology, analog-to-digital conversion and beam forming networks for both manned and unmanned ISR applications. Microwave photonic and carbon nanotube (CNT) links may appear frequently in future military antenna systems as photonic and CNT link performance continues to improve, The selection and integration of next-generation high-speed interconnect technologies will include an intelligent combination of copper, fiber optics and the emerging field of carbon nanotube technology. Data is presented to support the hypothesis that the LC is driven by gravity, and that its intrusion is a way of dissipating extra hydraulic drive power caused by the higher mean sea level at Grand Cayman Island compared to Grand Bahama Island. If some of this extra drive power is converted by submerged turbines into electric power for the shore grid, and the rest is dissipated by eddies shed by mooring cables and turbine structures, there will be no warm pools to energize hurricanes. Some turbine design estimates are made and a possible configuration is shown.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133836300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SCFs use the Solidly Mounted Resonator (SMR) structure to enable operations at RF frequencies, typically 1–5 GHz. In the response spectrum of the SCFs, besides the main resonance mode, there are some unwanted additional modes present which affect the filter's performance away from the primary passband frequency. A single passband is typically a required specification of a band pass filter; therefore the other unwanted modes are to be suppressed as a transmission band can manifest at each unwanted mode. It will turn out that with proper choice of layer materials and thicknesses the unwanted modes can be suppressed, but the level of suppression will be sensitive to the exact layer thicknesses fabricated. A research work is needed to focus on evaluating the materials used in the SCF's resonating mirror and seek a novel mirror methodology for the suppression of these unwanted modes even over manufacturing variations. In this paper, we will investigate careful control of the acoustic mirror stack above which the SMR stack is fabricated to create the SCF. By choosing appropriate materials and adjusting their respective thicknesses, the spurious modes can be suppressed without degrading the overall primary mode performance of the SCF. Trade-offs between the acoustic mirror properties relating to the filter's addressable bandwidth, and the desired suppression of lateral modes of one/two stage SCFs will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121067102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, despite its vastness, one of the downsides to using Web-based information sources is that the information contained in most Web pages has never been reviewed for accuracy or quality and thus it is often considered unsuitable for application where accuracy is of critical importance. While sites of questionable quality clearly should be avoided, one cannot deny the utility and advantages of Web based resources, and thus a methodology has been developed to identify expert vetted health-related Web resources. The resultant computer software searches for biomedical abstracts via Pubmed that pertain to a health topic of interest and via regular expression based pattern matching extracts all of the URLs that appear in the article abstracts. Given that articles that appear in Pubmed typically endure peer-review processes it can be assumed that all of the resources referenced by these articles have a reasonable level of quality, since they are being cited by experts. Thus the program is able to compile a list of quality Web resources pertaining to health topics. This system has successfully been used to create a list of Influenza related Web resources as a means of illustrating its utility.","PeriodicalId":220573,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131919968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
