The approach uses the video analytic technique of motion templates rather than conventional gesture recognition algorithms. Also, it utilizes background modeling and skin pixel detection which further strengthens the approach by making it tolerant to background clutter and noise. In addition it reduces the false detections to a considerable extent. The system does not necessitate the user to wear any coloured caps or gloves for the hands. Encouraging results were obtained and it was found that the methodology is flexible and can be manipulated to suit gesture based interaction as per the requirements of a system. It can also be implemented as a standalone system.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"61 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130524501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previously we have implemented CACC using beaconing: the regular broadcasting of status information using 802.11p. Currently we are concerned with extending both our beaconing mechanism and our CACC system to support automatic CACC merging. In this paper we focus on extending the beaconing mechanism to disseminate the required merging. We propose three beacon-based dissemination protocols and evaluate how well they are able to support automatic CACC merging. All protocols piggyback merging information on the CACC beacons, without changing the timing of the beacons. Our main goal is to identify which protocol can disseminate merging information during a CACC merging manoeuvre most efficiently. We show that all three protocols have low loss rates but that the impact on the network load differs per protocol.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130088413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VANET is no exception and poses special challenges in routing techniques. Position based routing protocols are considered to be apt for vehicular networks [1] and to realize that a location service is being used. For a packet to be routed to a destination across the network, the destination's position is to be known in advance. In this paper a new location service paradigm is being proposed to get the destination car's position. An adaptive location update policy is being proposed to maintain up-to-date location information at the location server. The location service uses a density aware server selection policy which selects servers at high density regions of a city. A localized query answering strategy is used for replying to location queries where a server with latest location information replies for a query. The proposed solution is found to be an efficient model for providing location service and ensures a query success ratio of 90.10% at its peak and decreased localization error, at an average of 8m.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123472927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to their limitations in terms of coverage, continuity, accuracy and integrity, GNSS are often fused with some extra aiding sensors. To perform the data fusion of multiple sensors it is possible to find in the literature of the field a large number of approaches that claim better accuracy, efficiency in computational terms or robustness than a reference one that is given for comparison. Normally, this reference is the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), the most common version of the Kalman Filter for non-linear systems. However, because sensors, tests, filter tunings, etc. vary largely from one publication to another, it is not possible in many occasions to have a clear idea of the real benefits of the different methods in fair terms. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the goodness of the EKF in loosely coupled data fusion architectures. The methodology presented can be applied to understand the limitations of different approaches for fusing multiple sensors in non-linear systems. Illustrations depict a real case with a sensor-set consisting of a GNSS, a gyro and the odometry of a road vehicle.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125118255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANETs), transmits the real time congestion information to the vehicles from a centralized database to avoid unexpected congestion and follow the shortest path to the destination. In this paper a proposed prototype which can be modified to work for the requirement with different models, such as general traffic prediction and re-routing during emergencies in case of fire, accidents etc. along the route is worked out. IEEE 802.11p which has been introduced exclusively for vehicular environments has been implemented at the Physical and Medium Access Control(MAC) layers of the WAVE protocol stack which was considered for a metropolitan city over an unpredictable high density of vehicles. Evaluation of the performance of IEEE 802.11p, Wireless Access for Vehicular Environment (WAVE) communication standard against IEEE802.11a for the vehicular environment for multiple scenarios has been simulated and the results are encouraging.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122292532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A typical VANET defines an intelligent way of using vehicular networking by integrating vehicular connections via a number of short-distance ad-hoc networking links, such as the IEEE802.11p. This type of system could provide effective communication between moving vehicles and fixed Road Side Units (RSUs), which are usually very expensive to install and may, in some cases, undergo heavy demand. To improve the efficiency of communication between vehicles and RSUs (Vehicle to Infrastructure, V2I), most existing work ignores the following facts: the uneven distribution of vehicles and unbalanced working loads on different RSUs. By considering the periodic and the unchanging features of public transportation, we propose a novel V2I hybrid optimisation scheme named Dynamic Resources Allocation Scheme (DRAS). In this scheme, all resources on the RSUs are scheduled as a whole and buses will be introduced as moving infrastructure points (or relay stations) to take some of the burden of the RSUs in real-time traffic conditions. We import the Variable-Length Contention Free Period (VL-CFP) for MAC access and also define Time-to-Live (TTL) value to guarantee the data credibility on bus. Using both Math analysis and NS-2 simulation, we can prove our DRAS can achieve a better QoS performance and adequate utilisation of RSU resources than legacy 802.11p and WAVE-based HCCA. These advantages become more obvious as the vehicles number increases.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121123100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
