However, it also creates challenges in terms of security as new vulnerabilities arise. In particular, these challenges include space isolation, data confidentiality, and policy compliance as well as handling the resource constraints of mobile devices and the intrusiveness created by installed applications seeking to perform BYOD functions. We present Remote Mobile Screen (RMS), an approach for secure BYOD environments that addresses all these challenges. In order to achieve this, the enterprise provides the employee with a trusted virtual machine running a mobile operating system, which is located in the enterprise network and to which the employee connects using the mobile BYOD device. We describe our proposed solution and discuss our experimental results. Finally, we discuss advantages and disadvantages of RMS and possible future work.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130201234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus there is an urgent need for one reliable 3D MIMO channel model to research and evaluate 3D MIMO techniques. In this paper, we focus on the statistic characteristics of elevation angle in urban microcell (UMi) and propose a novel elevation angle modeling methodology. In order to capture enough 3D channel characteristics, field 3D channel measurements at 3.5 GHz with 100 MHz bandwidth are conducted in UMi scenario. Based on the existing 3D channel model frame, the proposed elevation angle model is introduced and the updated 3D channel model is used to perform channel capacity analysis. Comparisons among the updated 3D channel model, the traditional two dimensional (2D) channel model and the field 3D channel data are made. The updated 3D channel model obtains obvious capacity gain compared with 2D channel model. The proposed elevation angle model and the updated 3D channel model can optimally match the channel capacity of the real 3D channel data.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130299503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, employment of directional antennae poses great challenges such as hidden terminal and deafness problems. The existing directional medium access control (DMAC) protocols usually work in a switching mode of omnidirectional listening and directional sending, which, however, introduces high hardware complexity and asymmetry-in-gain. In this paper, we propose a new fully-distributed directional-to-directional MAC protocol (FDD-MAC) for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) where all nodes operate in the directional-only mode. A scanning scheme over the antenna sectors is designed in which random periods are scheduled for listening and sending alternatively in each sector for link establishment. Meanwhile, the burst directional ready-to-send RTS (BDRTS) frame and angle-of-arrival (AoA) caching scheme are also exploited to improve the efficiency. Extensive simulations are conducted to compare the performance of FDD-MAC and other MAC protocols, including link success probability, network throughput, and service delay. The results show that FDD-MAC is effective and efficient in solving the deafness problem in MANETs, especially with high node density and traffic load.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126242239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By exploring the geographical distribution feature of data centers and the electricity price diversity in modern multi-electricity market, data center resizing technique emerges as a promising solution to lowering the electricity cost. Since services are usually provided by leasing virtual machines (VMs) over geo-distributed data centers, the corresponding user requests must be distributed only to these VMs. This motivates us to study the electricity cost minimization problem with the joint consideration of VM placement, user request distribution and data center resizing in geo-distributed data centers with heterogeneous electricity prices. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to study this optimization problem, which is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) problem and then solved by a computation-efficient heuristic algorithm in large-scale systems. The high efficiency of our proposal is validated by extensive simulation based studies.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114300398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These power consuming applications create new challenges for resource allocation. Therefore, providing efficient resource allocation as well as extending user equipment's (UE) battery lifetime are two important goals in LTE network. Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First (M-LWDF) algorithm is one of the primary downlink scheduling mechanisms currently used for real-time applications. The Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mechanism, which is widely adopted in LTE to conserve the mobile phone's battery resources, results in higher latency and higher packet loss rate due to its sleep mode. The impact of DRX mechanism on downlink scheduling by using M-LWDF algorithm was studied comprehensively for the first time. Then a novel scheme, utility based scheduling scheme (USS), was proposed to reduce packet loss which was caused by DRX sleep mode by considering the remaining DRX awake time at UE and adjusting the DRX parameters. The simulation results show that by using this proposed scheme, significant performance gain will be achieved when compared with traditional scheduling algorithms, such as Proportional Fairness (PF) and M-LWDF. Packet delay and packet drop rate will be decreased by 23.5% and 59.5% respectively.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134646917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, we show how to achieve instantaneous failure recovery and cost efficiency by allowing intermediate nodes to merge their incoming flows by a simple network code, i.e., logical OR operation. Under simple network coding, the problem of minimum cost multicast 1+1 protection is formulated as a 2-connectivity problem. In order to solve this problem, an optimal ILP and three efficient heuristic algorithms are proposed. Simulation results on real-world networks show that the average cost of our best heuristic algorithm is only 2.6 % higher compared to the optimal ILP solution.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121312493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to allocate the resources to maximize the weighted sum rate subject to individual power constraint on each node. We formulate such a problem as subcarrier based resource allocation that seeks joint optimization of subcarrier assignment and power profiles at the source and relay nodes. Using high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) approximation, a low complexity algorithm is proposed to split the subcarriers into two partitions based on channel gains' ordering, where each partition is assigned to one user. The computational complexity of finding the subcarrier assignment that maximizes the weighted sum rate for N subcarriers AF-OFDMA scenario is of O(N). The merits of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114213950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a dynamic spectrum access framework that exploits the capabilities of carrier aggregation to efficiently utilize the unutilized spectrum which varies with time and space when static spectrum access policies are adopted. A spectrum owner (SO) adopts an auction scheme for accessing spectrum for the dynamic requests. Furthermore, we introduce an accurate model driven by real-life statics and LTE-A standard specifications for estimating the bandwidth required to satisfy the traffic demands of an operator's subscribers for a projected demand model. For the auction process, we map the spectrum access problem into a bounded knapsack problem which is solved using dynamic programming in pseudo-polynomial time. The solution uses the generalized second price strategy. Simulation results show more than 20% reduction in the required spectrum and up to 80% reduction in the average unutilized spectrum as compared with traditional static spectrum access due to the on-demand spectrum assignment.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121367098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These circuits need to be quickly restored in order to avoid prolonged traffic disruptions at the higher layers. The distributed nature of the GMPLS control plane requires that independent restoration attempts are conducted for each disrupted circuit. These concurrent restoration attempts are likely to face race conditions, i.e., they race to reserve network resources (e.g., wavelengths) from a common pool. Race conditions are the cause of blocking (a restoration attempt cannot be completed) or at a minimum delayed completion of the restoration attempt. The study in this paper investigates how both blocking and completion time of circuit restoration attempts are affected by a recently proposed MIX Wavelength Assignment (WA) strategy based on a feature of the IETF RSVP-TE called WA-Method-TLV. Simulation results show that the proposed use of WA-Method-TLV can efficiently reduce blocking probability, average hop count and restoration time of the rerouted circuit.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129182082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The placement of Femtos inside enterprise building environments can significantly affect indoor user performance. We consider a system model that takes into account the following parameters: co-channel interference between Femto BSs and Macro BSs, wall attenuation factor and user density in enterprise building environments. We solve joint placement and power control problem by formulating two Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) optimization models: Optimal Constant Threshold Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (OptCTSINR) and Optimal Varying Threshold SINR (OptVTSINR), which optimally tune the power of Femto BS, guarantee a certain minimum SINR to users and also minimize the number of Femtos needed for the coverage of enterprise buildings. We then solve these MIP models by utilizing branch and bound framework of CPLEX solver in General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) tool. When compared to center K-Means (CKM) clustering based placement scheme, for a given number of Femtos, proposed scheme OptCTSINR results in average SINR improvement of 39% and proposed OptVTSINR outperforms OptCTSINR by 6.7%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123152486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
