These networks need strong security measures to keep the traffic secure. If the security fails, many aspects of the society may suffer. In this paper, we address the network security challenge by focusing on one integral part of the network functionality: routing. Using Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) as our Internal Gateway Protocol (IGP), we aim to create a randomization process in which the packets will be sent through less predictable paths. By using this process we expect to increase the difficulty for a hacker to eavesdrop traffic hence improve network security.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128158416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OTT content providers have been following the strategy of deploying caching servers within the ISPs' own networks. This work presents a method for deciding where these caches for OTT services can be conveniently deployed to provide significant traffic offload to ISPs' back-haul links. The procedure followed is to find suitable caching locations that minimize the maximum link traffic load. The problem is defined and solved as a Link Load Balanced Capacitated Facility Location Problem (LLB-CFL). The solution search processes are implemented based on Genetic Algorithms (GA), designing genetic operators highly targeted towards this specific problem. The proposed methods are applied to a case study focusing on the demand and cache specifications of Netflix, and framed into a real geographical area, the island of Bornholm, Denmark. The results cover a thorough analysis of the cost-fitness trade-off of the search method and an evaluation of both cache and gateway traffic flowing in the network in relation to the solutions found using different network topologies.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133012858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We provide a description of the proposed system, and propose a three-step approach using a joint phase estimation algorithm for carrier frequency synchronization that takes advantage of the existing pilot signals to deliver good performance and also has low complexity. We provide simulation results to demonstrate that the proposed approach incurs negligible performance loss due to carrier frequency offsets.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133699360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although central control is the major advantage of SDN, it is also a single point of failure if it is made unreachable by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attack. To mitigate this threat, this paper proposes to use the central control of SDN for attack detection and introduces a solution that is effective and lightweight in terms of the resources that it uses. More precisely, this paper shows how DDoS attacks can exhaust controller resources and provides a solution to detect such attacks based on the entropy variation of the destination IP address. This method is able to detect DDoS within the first five hundred packets of the attack traffic.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132745849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel architecture that integrates LTE networks with IEEE 802.11 based Vehicle Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) is proposed, due to their high data transmission rates and wide coverage area, respectively. The proposed scheme aims at delay analysis, which is under stochastic network calculus. The service rate of LTE wireless channels is modeled as a Markov modulation process by the mobility process of vehicles, and the behavior of IEEE 802.11 communication is characterized by a service model with the derived single packet access delay. Based on the analytical principle of stochastic network calculus, the stochastic delay upper bounds of V2I communication networks are derived via the Moment Generating Function (MGF) method. Finally, analytical and simulation results are utilized to validate the accuracy of the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123892113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following IEEE 802.16e standard, we develop an iterative soft decoding algorithm for 4×4 MIMO with different modulation schemes. Using this method, we obtain 1.1 to 2.7 dB improvement over iterative soft decision based least sphere decoding (LSD) for different iterations. Then, using extensive simulation, we determine the optimum values for list size and saturation limit, which are the two governing parameters of our algorithm. Finally, we demonstrate that limiting the log likelihood ratio (LLR) values in LR-aided and LSD algorithm results in more than 8x reduction in list size as well as in the complexity of detectors and LLR calculation units.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122164474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the power optimization is a more critical issue in WVSN. This paper presents a cross-layer algorithm for the minimization of the total power in a video sensor network organized in a clustered architecture. The algorithm minimizes the total power in the network by jointly optimizing the encoding and transmission powers, in addition to the source encoding rate at each video sensor node. Furthermore, the allocation of the MAC layer resources (time slots and frequency bands) considering flat fading channel is addressed. We formulate the problem as a non-linear optimization, and propose a solution based on Lagrange duality subject to video signal distortion and packet loss constraints. The simulation results show the trade-off between allocating power to the encoding process or the transmission process. Moreover, the interaction between the nodes competing for channel resources for both intra-cluster, and inter-cluster bases, and how this affects their power consumption and distortion levels is studied.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115635953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, approaches belonging to different fields such as signal processing (e.g., discrete Fourier transforms and compressive sensing) or information theory (e.g., distributed source coding) and networking are seldom evaluated against one another. In the present contribution, we consider practical lossy compression schemes that rely on different techniques, such as the exploitation of the temporal and spatial dynamics of the signal as well as recent algorithms based on Compressive Sensing (CS). These techniques are adapted so as to be efficiently applied, within the same data collection framework, to a distributed WSN. Hence, we carry out a comparative performance analysis of these schemes, assessing their performance in terms of reconstruction error vs energy requirements. From this, several interesting observations are derived, which allow the identification of the best performing algorithm(s) as a function of the spatio-temporal characteristics of the signal. For CS, we assess the impact of the node selection scheme (scheduling) and gauge its performance gap with respect to an idealized CS scheme where the signal covariance matrix is perfectly known at the reconstruction point. We finally identify areas that need improvement, especially for the enhancement of CS-based compression.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122707892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, indoor localization using RF signaling is very challenging and does not provide adequate precision for many applications. In this paper we use Particle Filter (PF) to integrate the Received Signal Strength (RSS) of WiFi and the Time Of Arrival (TOA) of UWB RF signaling for precise cooperative localization in indoor environment. The choice for PF is due to non-linear and Non-Gaussian channel models for RF localization algorithm. We use channel models for the RSS of WiFi and the TOA of UWB. The performance of the PF results are evaluated in a typical indoor scenario and are compared with the Cramér-Rao-Lower-Bound (CRLB) for Hybrid (UWB & WiFi) in Cooperative (COOP) and non-Cooperative (NCOOP) modes.","PeriodicalId":219966,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"180 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121793356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
