A specific output energy of 8 J/liter was achieved. The maximum output energy per pulse from an SF6–HI laser was found to be higher than that from an SF6–H2 laser. The case of small signal amplification is analyzed in detail. It is shown that the transmission spectrum of a laser in the lasing state has side maxima separated from the natural resonance by several gigahertz. The results of an experimental study of this phenomenon are presented. The energy per laser pulse was 10 mJ, the pulse duration was 3–5 μs, and the pulse-repetition frequency was up to 10 Hz.
