Ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis offers opportunities for inducing genetic variation for key traits for development of feed barley ideotypes. The objective of this study was to determine optimal EMS dosage and exposure time to induce genetic variation for selection of high biomass yield six-row feed barley mutants. Five EMS dosages (i.e. 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% and 0.9% v/v) and five exposure times (i.e. 0.5 hr, 1 hr, 1.5 hr, 2 hrs and 2.5 hrs) were used on a six-row fodder barley using a 5 x 5 factorial treatment structure in a complete randomized design with three replications. Non-treated seed were used as a comparative control. Data was recorded for percent germination, seedling survival, shoot height, root height, shoot and root biomass. Significant (p < 0.05) EMS dosage x exposure time was observed for assessed traits indicating their influence on phenotypic variation in feed barley. Overall, a declining trend was observed for assessed traits with increased EMS dosage and exposure time. The LD50 value of 0.64% (v/v) EMS dosage was identified as an optimal dose for large-scale mutagenesis protocol to select fodder barley mutants with high biomass yield","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114811422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Pakistan, the northern areas have very attractive sites for wind power plants. However, due to non-standardized masts installed, the collected data are not reliable. Due to the unreliable nature of available data, the investors normally avoid the investing in the wind power projects. Various software and tools have been used so far for the feasibility analysis but due to unreliable data, the proper feasibility analysis is still out of sight. To overcome this deficiency, a feasibility study of a wind power project in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan using reliable data is presented in this paper. For this purpose, the RETScreen is used by exploiting the standard NASA’s (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) database. Since the developing countries are facing problems in the development of wind projects, it is envisaged that this approach will give an easy way to launch new clean energy projects.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127267530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The supply of electricity decreased in 2002-2007 against the exponentially increasing demand in Pakistan. In the meantime, severe load shedding was started across Pakistan that negatively affected the economic growth of the country. More than 63% of the population in rural areas live without electricity. The government cut down electricity supply eight to twelve hours per day in terms of load shedding that adversely affects the living standards and economic growth of the nation. In the world, Pakistan stands on 133 regarding ranking in energy consumption. Energy usage per capita in Pakistan is 482 kilograms of oil equivalent per year (kgoe/a) which is very low when compared with the industrialized countries. Besides that Pakistan strongly adheres with non-renewable energy options to mollify its energy demand. The import of fossil fuels to meet energy demand adversely affects the economy of Pakistan. This review helps in the identification of indigenous available biomass resources and their conversion processes for power production to improve power generation, living standards and economy of the country. The application of indigenous biomass resources for electricity generation will reduce the pressure caused by increased demand for energy.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124608464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, to minimize the development effort, time and cost it is very important to understand the probable defects associated with the designed modules. It is possible that occurrence of a range of defects may impact the designed modules which need to be predicted in advance to have a close inter-association with the depended modules. Most of the existing defect prediction classifier mechanisms are derived from the past project data learning, but it is not sufficient for new project defect predicting as the new design may have a different kind of parameters and constraints. This paper recommends Regression Analysis (RA) based defect learning and prediction Defect Prediction (RA-DP) mechanism to support the defective or non-defective prediction for quality software development. The RA-DP approach provides two methods to perform this prediction analysis. It initially presents an association learning through RA to construct the regression rules from the learned knowledge required for the defect prediction. The constructed regression rules are used for defect prediction and analysis. To measure the performance of the RA-DP a regression experimental evaluation is performed over the defect-prone PROMISE dataset from NASA project. The outcome of the results is analyzed through measuring the prediction Accuracy, Sensitivity and Specificity to demonstrate the improvisation and effectiveness of the proposal in comparison to a few existing classifiers.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129978645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These dams were built during the last decade to overcome the challenges of water scarcity and depleting aquifers due to excessive Groundwater (GW) extraction. It was expected that these dams would recharge the GW resources and save the aquifer system from collapsing. Check-dams have traditionally been the permanent source of water within the province. A check-dam is used to delay the floodwater runoff to make it available for domestic and agriculture purposes or to recharge GW. The water along these dams permeates into the ground to keep the aquifer genuinely stable throughout the year. The data were collected based on studies of published research papers and reports of international organizations containing key characteristics of performance evaluation techniques. This review will help to evaluate procedures, policy, and governance interventions in Balochistan by comparing them with the adopted practices in other regions of the world and its impact on the well-being of the society. In this paper, the performance evaluation of check-dams for specific cases is presented. The knowledge acquired will be utilized to highlight state-of-the-art practices and to identify the need for further research in this field.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133141408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Farmers may also prematurely return to their farms to save livelihoods and take care of animals. Case studies and media reports show the importance of understanding the cultural beliefs of residents when developing emergency plans. By reviewing literature from different scientific disciplines in relation to volcanic eruptions and livestock emergency preparedness, differences can be identified in the underlying risk and control paradigms, including the meaning given to volcanoes and livestock. Concurrently, livestock emergency preparedness approaches fall short of people-orientation. Using selected studies that consider these aspects, a people-centred and culture-sensitive framework to improve local learning and participation in emergency preparedness is offered. With disaster events becoming more frequent, participatory learning is useful to strengthen emergency management and preparedness programs.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128236693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant amount of water and energy can be conserved by adopting various waste heat and water recovery methods, such as the use of heat exchanger, recycling hot wastewater, steam condensate, and cooling water recovery and reuse. In this study, various waste energy and water conservation methods are summarized to highlight their importance for water and energy conservation. For practical consideration, a detailed assessment of such practiced methods was done in one textile processing industry. Because of the presence of polyvalent metal ions hetracoagulation of gangue minerals is widely acknowledged, thus selective flocculation of ultrafine hematite from associated gangue minerals is challenging task when their concentration is above 10 ppm. This study has shown that state of strong interaction of gangue minerals with hematite due to presence of 15 ppm Ca2+, 3 ppm Mg2+ and 3 ppm Fe3+ ions can be weakened by addition of optimal dose of Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP) ligand. The optimization of ligand dose is achieved through analysis of Zeta Potential (ZP) as a function of slurry pH. It is noted that 50 ppm of SHMP is sufficient to restore the ZP of hematite, where selective dispersion of the slurry constituents are possible. Our results further showed that conventional strategy of obtaining minimum difference of ±30 mV in the ZP of hematite and gangue minerals quartz and kaolinite would not work especially in the presence of 15 ppm Ca2+, 3 ppm Mg2+ and 3 ppm Fe3+ ions. Attempts to achieve the minimum threshold difference in the ZP of the minerals will cause over dispersion.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116077206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This investigation was planned to convert bagasse waste into a useful composite. For this purpose the bagasse waste was obtained from sugar cane juice producer. In this study, the extraction of bagasse fibers was done manually and they were treated with sodium hydroxide. The treated bagasse fibers had higher tensile properties as compared to untreated ones, so the alkali treated fibers were used as reinforcement for making composites. Hand lay-up technique was used to manufacture bagasse composite samples. The fiber length (1 inch and 2 inch) and fiber weight percentage (10 wt% and 20 wt%) were considered as variables. It was found that better tensile properties were obtained with higher fiber length (2 inch) and weight percentage (20 wt%). Bagasse-cotton fabric composites were also produced using cotton fabric as a base material and the bagasse fibers were sandwiched between a printed and plain cotton fabric. The idea was to consider these composites useful for sun-shades or for decorative purposes. It was also found that bagasse-cotton fabric reinforced composites had higher tensile strength and strain; however the modulus had reduced due to higher elongation of cotton fabrics. With the increase in the weight percentage the tensile properties had reduced this might be because during the composite manufacturing the epoxy resin had to pass through the fabric to wet the bagasse fiber out and they were not wetted out properly. This phenomenon needs further investigation.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132170752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Be films are coated on stainless steel surface by the technique of Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA); a novel thin film deposition method with primary as well distinguished characteristic of control of ion flux and respective dose towards the substrate. Prior to scattering, methane-d4 99 atom % D is ionized by electron impact and ions are mass and energy analyzed. Ionization and collisions are performed in ultra high vacuum conditions. In these kinds of collision experiments, we have recorded secondary ion mass spectra and plotted respective incident energy resolved abundances of secondary product ions. Relative abundances in percentage of total secondary ions are plotted and it is observed that such beryllium films can accumulate charged hydrocarbon layers as surface adsorbates. These self assembled layers play a primary role in surface-scattering of primary ions. Moreover, it is seen that bond dissociation energy in lighter hydrocarbons is higher than that for heavier species and shows primarily that the deuterium atoms are loosely bounded to carbon atoms in heavier hydrocarbons than in lighter ones.","PeriodicalId":218435,"journal":{"name":"July 2021","volume":"167 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122320926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
