End-to-end cell transfer delay (CTD) and cell delay variation (CDV) bounds are provided by logically associating cells to short duration link-level frames. In addition, a generic scheduler is proposed for the uplink earth station (ES). This scheduler only defines the service priorities and deadlines of queued cells but does not define the particular fashion in which an ES gains access to the shared transmission medium. Simulation results demonstrate that the quality of service (QoS) can be efficiently managed in order to maximize satellite throughput of real-time traffic.","PeriodicalId":218354,"journal":{"name":"ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. We show that traditional turbo decoding represents one of many ways in which the framework of Pearl's belief propagation algorithm (1988) can be applied for decoding of turbo codes. Simulation results show that a noisy received block which does not converge using traditional turbo decoding can converge to the correct value with one or more of the generalizations introduced here. COMETS carries an SCPC/TDM regenerative transponder for direct mobile-to-mobile communications, and IF-filterbanks for interconnection between multibeams. For mobile and personal applications, a portable terminal for regenerative transponder experiments, and several antennas such as an active phased array antenna, a waveguide slot array antenna, and a torus reflector antenna were developed. We then examine the performance of rate 4/5, 8/9, and 16/17 turbo codes on a PRA-equalized magnetic recording channel at a user density of S/sub u/=2.0. In this paper, we consider an adaptive, diversity receiver for OFDM signals in a Rayleigh fading channel. The diversity receiver has L branches with each branch receiving the signal from L independently fading diversity channels. We model the fading process as a vector auto-regressive process and use the Kalman filter to obtain the MMSE optimum channel estimates for each branch. The channel estimates and the signals are combined using the maximal ratio combining rule to obtain the decision variables. Power control is essential for such systems to increase the capacity. Power control based on equalizing the received power levels from different users was proposed. The user's bit error rate (BER) depends on its received signal to noise ratio (SNR). Since the user's required SNR to achieve a given BER depends on its velocity, low mobility users are expected to have a lower BER compared to high mobility ones. Hence, the BER performance of a high mobility user is investigated when determining the system capacity. We propose a power control algorithm based also on power level measurements but where the required threshold is determined according to the user velocity where slow users thresholds are lower than fast ones. This results in increasing the slow users BER but lower the interference they cause to other users and hence increases the system capacity. This increase in capacity is found to be about 30% for a three resolvable Rayleigh fading paths channel and a path-loss exponent of four.","PeriodicalId":218354,"journal":{"name":"ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. The proposed algorithm combines a recursive hidden Markov model estimator, a Kalman filter and a recursive prediction error parameter estimation algorithm. Several parameters are discussed such as position of training sequence, influence of Doppler frequency and symbol rate. It is shown that, when using linear interpolation, the idea of splitting the training sequence into 3 parts as a pre-/ mid-/ post-amble allows the evolution of the channel to be followed with greater accuracy than in the case of mid-amble only. In addition, for fast fading rate channels, the idea of processing the estimates in two different lines is introduced and improves estimation. The conclusion is that linear interpolation can offer a solution for the channel estimation required by interference cancellation, combining very low complexity and very good channel tracking capability even at relative high vehicular speeds.","PeriodicalId":218354,"journal":{"name":"ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications.
