However, only depending on the tuning technique, its efficiency can be highly improved in order to reach process requirements. This paper presents a cascade scheme control system for the temperature in a steam distillation for essential oils extraction process. Temperature is one of the most crucial parameters that can define the quality of the essential oil in a distillation process. Although, as many real systems, there are some disturbing signals that need to be treated in a controller design due to robustness, fast response and closed - loop stability approach. The tuning technique, for both, inner and outer controller, is based on Internal Model Control (IMC) rules, where pressure has been considered as the disturbing signal. Moreover, a contrast is made between the performance of the IMC rules and other tuning methods: Ziegler Nichols and Skogestad - IMC. The simulation results demonstrate that the IMC controllers under the cascade scheme gives a better performance compared to the other methods when set point tracking and disturbance rejection are measured.","PeriodicalId":217788,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Fourth Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132119596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was done in order to look for the advantages and disadvantages of each of these methods in terms of frequency resolution, time resolution, detection and computational load. For the comparison, five experiments were performed with the artificial signal. Each new test demands more strict conditions for time resolution, frequency resolution and component detection due to the amplitude reduces and frequency separation decreases among components. The results show that, the best method in terms of frequency resolution, detection and computational load is the Short Time Fourier Transform. On the other hand, Bump Wavelet, which is also the best among the wavelets analyzed, has the best time resolution allowing to distinguish the start and end times of each component of the signal with excellent precision for each of the tests performed.","PeriodicalId":217788,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Fourth Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125421072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This non-invasive and less expensive methodology is composed of a contrast enhancement algorithm, an anisotropic diffusion filter (denoising) and an edge detector. By applying this methodology, we successfully binarized some images of petroglyph of the Cueva del Diablo located at Manabí - Ecuador. The results of the developed methodology can be used to record the Ecuadorian archeological heritage and to perform an archeological and/or anthropological analysis.","PeriodicalId":217788,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Fourth Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125478595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
