The performances of the conventional methods such as logic gates, counter or LUT are evaluated in terms of complexity, speed and power dissipation according to various spreading factors used in UMTS systems. The results are applied to our multi-stage design in order to implement the most efficient code generator. The proposed structure that is synthesized in Samsung 0.35 µm CMOS library decreases the power consumption up to 26.5%. It needs 203 more gates compared to the counter based generator which is the most efficient among the conventional methods, which can be ignored in terms of the whole chip area.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116082656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To reduce spatial discontinuities and mitigate deformed structures commonly seen in block-based motion-compensated frame interpolation approaches, the proposed method interpolates frames based on depth-ordered moving regions. We develop a 3-parameter motion model to describe regions' moving trajectories, and use the local depth order among neighboring regions for occlusion during frame synthesis. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is very effective in removing block artifacts in interpolated frames, and has a better visual quality compared to conventional methods.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123435810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method segments a two-dimensional array into various configurations of microphone pairs and flattens these configurations into one-dimension for comparison. Each configuration is ranked based on the microphones' spatial information (known a-priori) and incoming bearing estimates. These rankings select different microphone pair configurations, whose position estimates are combined in a weighted-average algorithm. Simulations and experimental results show that this method selects microphone configurations that provide the least position error. Through a fusion algorithm, which combines individual microphone pair data, an array's position accuracy can improve.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128595022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such a scenario, we propose a technique to emulate (or capture) the presence of large number of users with multiple QoS, resource constraints and channel conditions which we collectively refer to as load, without the load having to be present. We also implement the proposed loading emulation technique in Qualcomm's prototype VoIP over HSPA system and compare the results of applying such a technique with results from Qualcomm's network simulations supporting multiple users. We show that this emulation can be used to effectively capture load in a 3G HSPA+ test equipment.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126713704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method uses human visual quality perception to compare edge maps generated by different edge detector parameter values and iteratively reduces the parameter search space by means of a coordinate search. The method is applicable to any parameterized edge detector. Examples demonstrate that use of the Canny detector yields the most visually appealing edge maps. However, it requires 2.5 and 1.8 times the number of iterations required by the Sobel and LoG detectors, respectively.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121261445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a precoding technique which is used at the base station of the primary system. Using this technique, it is possible to keep the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of the primary users above a required value and in addition to help the cognitive system by relaying signals from secondary base station to desired cognitive users. Although the proposed method needs the primary base station to be modified and to perform additional processing, it does not need any modification in the primary users and moreover, the interference induced on the primary users are controlled. In this paper, we assume that the primary base station is equipped with multiple transmit antennas. The proposed precoding scheme is based on the Block Diagonalization technique which removes the inter-user interference and it is combined with maximal signal to jamming plus noise ratio (SJNR) precoding method which minimizes the inter-user interference.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129402202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
