Location independent media services imply that a user can be nomadic and be delivered media services at any location via the network. The delivery of media using mobile agent technology enhances the access and delivery of media services by evaluating the media and network context. To enable these enhancements, mobile agents must traverse networks to discover and deliver media services to nomadic users. The LISA prototype uses mobile agents that cooperate to traverse networks, find media, determine media context, and provide media services. This paper addresses two sources of contextual information within this paradigm, the contextual nature of the network path and the current context of multiple sources of media storage.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126744722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Via a newly designed network low density parity check code, this scheme permits the relay node to jointly encode the data information from two source nodes. To predict the system performance, a newly generalized Gaussian approximation algorithm is derived, based on which an optimization algorithm is developed to search the degree distribution of the network LDPC code. Simulations show that, in a network with two sources, one relay and one destination, the system with the designed network low density parity check code hold a performance gap less than 0.6dB from the threshold and a performance gain of about 0.3dB can be achieved to the same rate XOR network coding scheme at BER=10−5.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122294615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Techniques exist to enhance the localization information by employing redundant measurements available in networks with high connectivity or from a large number of reference nodes. However, it is challenging to obtain accurate localization information in deployment environments with: 1) unfavorable radio-propagation characteristics that degrade measurements, or 2) sparse topologies that limit the redundancy. One such example is underground tunnels. In this paper, we study the performance of localization techniques that are applicable to such sparse networks. Particularly we focus on the COBALT method, which is based on cliques of nodes in the network and uses angle of arrival and range estimates. For different techniques, we show the influence of the connectivity among sensor nodes on the accuracy. Our results show that the COBALT method outperforms other general-purpose localization techniques.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133938180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main application of this problem is the implementation of improved constellations where transmitted data is highly non-uniform. A simple algorithm, which optimizes a constellation by re-arranging its points in a pairwise fashion (i.e., two points are modified a time with the other points remaining fixed), is presented. In general, the optimized constellations depend on both the source statistics and the signalto- noise ratio (SNR) in the channel. We show that constellations designed with source statistics considered can yield symbol error rate performance that is substantially better than rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation signal sets used with either Gray mapping or more recently developed maps. Gains as high as 5 dB in Eb/N0 SNR are obtained for highly non-uniform sources.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124848467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides an introduction for those interested in undertaking research at the intersection of manycore computing and GPU architecture. First, the motivation for using GPUs for non-graphics processing rather than developing specialized hardware is outlined. Then, the features of GPU architectures and related programming models for non-graphics computing on GPUs are briefly described. Finally, some recent research and architecture challenges related to accelerating non-graphics workloads on GPUs are summarized.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117176674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the given living room scenario the system recognizes commands spoken by multiple and possibly moving users, even in the presence of background noise and TV surround audio. This paper focuses on the multichannel acoustic frontend (MCAF) processing for acoustic scene interpretation which is based on the combination of multi-channel acoustic echo cancellation, blind source separation, beamforming, acoustic event classification, and multiple speaker localization.
