But learning pages consisting of texts and figures can be delivered in fast service, while learning pages including large video or sound files need a relatively longer service time to deliver learning contents. Accordingly in the present study, we aim to make it more independent of the operating systems, devices or browsers and enable interactions among learners. The convenience of learning is intended to be achieved by realizing e-learning contents, enabling self-initiated learning. To this end, in the present paper, a technique to synchronize multimedia e-learning contents, multimedia objects based on XML is proposed, and the e-learning contents of the proposed technique are developed with Flash, to support high-quality multimedia learning via synchronized data of images, sounds, videos, ect. on Web sites.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115106372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We found that limitations in the design of current AOP languages restricted the capacity of the programming tools to manipulate the programmer's source code. Therefore, this paper proposes an extension of this concept in which both AOP and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) source codes are generated at compiling time to increase the lexicon available for programmers to express advanced computation distribution. We also tested our proposal using a distributed Apriori algorithm.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116470474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because the performance bottleneck shifts from the server to the proxy. Multiple proxies can be deployed in the above scheme to overcome the problem. If these proxies remain isolated, i.e., non-collaborative, overall resource utilization at these proxies will be very poor. We propose that these proxies that serve a particular video in a proxy based scalable streaming scheme should form a Collaborative Proxy Peering System (CPPS). Simulation result shows that our proposed CPPS reduces server-proxy bandwidth requirement and the proxy buffer requirement compared to non-collaborative proxy deployment.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125770541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a considerable performance gap between LRU and Belady's theoretical optimal replacement policy in highly associative caches. We study non-optimal LRU decisions (NODs) in chip multiprocessors and investigate NOD distribution within multithreaded applications. We introduce Hasty blocks (H-Blocks) and Predictable blocks (P-Blocks) as more inclusive extensions of previously suggested classifications. Based on our findings we present Speculative Replacement Algorithm (SRA) to identify and reduce NOD frequency. We discuss implementation issues and show that with a small 1k entries table we could successfully identify about 90% of H-blocks and half of the P-Blocks. When SRA algorithm is combined with previously suggested techniques it reduces an extra 7% of the cache miss rate on average.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129523453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Translation of the ON-state mirror element changes the spatial location of the point source and consequently generates a sequence of translated holograms with different projections of the object. A demonstration of this capability using microspheres deposited on both side of microscope slide shows the possibility of discriminating between features at different planes through the object.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128475725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These methods usually estimate the amount of resources to be consumed by a hardware design before circuit synthesis takes place. The purpose of this study is to analyze the suitability of an estimation method for a design flow. A framework is also proposed to help the optimization process of the design. This framework automatically optimizes the design by finding potential parallelism in the design and applies it while considering the available resource and time constraints.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128599292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper two new window functions obtained by modifying the conventional Huber and Tukey window functions are presented to reduce the error in distance measurements that are corrupted by multipath fading. It was found that for the Gaussian distributed NLoS component present in our data, both the modified Huber and modified Tukey window functions yield lower root mean square error (RMSE) compared to the maximum likelihood estimator and the original Huber window function. Results also show that the modified window functions are more robust to the data outliers created by NLoS measurements than conventional robust estimation algorithms.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127228051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uplink (UL) transmission with multiple mobile-stations (MSs) cooperating with a relay-station (RS) using HARQ is considered. The RS is assumed to be able to successfully monitor and decode the packets transmitted from the MSs to the base-station (BS). The BS partitions the incorrectly decoded packets into groups based on their MS-to-BS channel conditions and feedback this partition to the RS along with the acknowledgement (ACK) or negative acknowledgement (NACK). The RS employs, for each group inside the partition, a network-coded HARQ scheme using packets in that group for subsequent retransmissions. We proposed a dynamic and adaptive partitioning method based on the channel state information at the BS and the corresponding HARQ retransmission schemes. Also, we derived the corresponding low-complexity joint demodulation and decoding structure for this multi-user HARQ scheme. We found via simulations that our proposed scheme can improve the system throughput by around 15% when compared with the simple relay assisted chase combining HARQ system.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129126629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a new secured architecture for two-party mobile payments, e.g. mobile banking. The proposed architecture employs a lightweight cryptography system that combines public key and symmetric key cryptography systems (ECDSA and AES), as well as a multi-factor authentication mechanism. These are coupled with a transaction log strategy to satisfy the properties of confidentiality, authentication, integrity and non-repudiation. Compared to some existing mobile payment platforms the proposed architecture is a lightweight secured mechanism that is more suitable for two-party banking transactions over resource-limited mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130429674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our proposed scheme improves the transmission success rate and the energy consumption by considering two features. One of the feature is to construct the least hop backup paths without the failed link away. The other feature is to reduce the packet drop by using the packet salvaging method. By providing the alternate paths to the intermediate nodes of the primary path, the proposed scheme ensures to salvage the packets that might be lost at the intermediate nodes. Therefore, hop counts of backup paths and data packet loss are reduced. It is shown by simulations that our scheme improves the transmission success rate and the energy consumption efficiency in MANETs.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125464333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
