The roller slip characteristics are derived from the measurement of the relative velocity between the roller and a paper under an external force. The paper feeding simulation is used to calculate the tension in the paper among the registration rollers, the roller transfer unit and the fuser rollers. The paper velocity at the roller transfer unit is predicted solving the equilibrium equations between the traction given by the transfer roller and the photoreceptor drum and the tension in the paper. The predicted velocities agree well with those from experiments, which is based on the time interval sensing of the pattern of lines printed on papers.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129361579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decomposition of methanol, acetic acid, ethanol and glycerin was carried out as an experiment for acquiring more fundamental information. In all experimental conditions, hydrogen was confirmed from the extracted gas. SCW technology may enable hydrogen production using biomass resources if materials & energy conversion coefficient have more than adequate values.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"26 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123160055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The characteristics are rare-earth permanent magnets a and core-less coil generator, savonius-type wind, and maximum power point tracking control. The Kochi University of Technology played a role of a design, and analysis of the generator. Undergraduate students shared the parts for design, and communicated with a manufacturer, who machined and assembled the generator. From the viewpoint of research interest, the dynamic magnetic field analysis has been conducted. In order to confirm the results by the analysis, a wind tunnel experiment was performed. The analytical result was within 10% error from the experimental result. The analysis is considered to be a tool for investigating the most suitable design for the generator. The small-sized wind power generator which was developed for design and manufacture is reported.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121020179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspection costs increase when the inspection interval is shortened since inspection is one of the cost elements. On the contrary, risk or loss caused by failure will increase when the inspection interval is lengthened. Therefore, an appropriate setting of inspection schedules is important for reduction in maintenance costs. In this study, a determination method optimum inspection schedules is discussed for a single-unit system, in which failure of a system is detected only by inspection. An optimization problem is formulated to minimize the incurred cost per cycle in order to derive an optimum inspection density function, in which the problem is solved by the variational method.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124854405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of this, the life cycle inventory analysis for their production process is becoming increasingly important. Here inventory analysis is made for the parts of a cellular phone, and the energy for assembling and manufacturing them is measured in order to estimate CO/sub 2/ emission. The results show that the greatest part of the environmental load of cellular phone production is occupied by production of electronics parts, such as wiring board, liquid crystal display and so forth, while production of the machinery parts and assembling of the whole cellular phone occupies a small part. The production process consumes many times more energy than that needed for material production. However, a higher ratio is observed in the case of finer and more integrated devices. The device forming process requires a clean environment and should be performed in a clean room, which consumes high power and thereby occupies a large part of the environmental load of electronic device production.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129594508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent trends imply, however, that changing from a weight-based to a volume-based strategy is likely to be substantially more beneficial. When taking an integral perspective, using detailed cost structures and environmental analysis of the complete distribution chain, it can be shown that economical as well as environmental benefits become clear once the paradigm of single set packaging is abandoned and multi- or bulk packaging solutions are created. In cooperation with Delft University of Technology, Philips Consumer Electronics has created several such concepts that show an improvement potential of up to 40-60% in both environmental and economical costs.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129875194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The \"Factor X Tool 2001\" shown in table 1 is the tool that was introduced to Matsushita Electric Group as a criterion of a \"Green\" product/service in 2002. This Factor X Tool was independently developed and published in 2001 for the first time. Since then, many case studies have been published. It was also introduced to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Hitachi Group in 2003. Thus the concept of the Factor X (Eco-efficiency)\" has already become very popular. However, when it comes to the numerator, evaluation methods have yet to be standardized due to difficulties in their measurement. What's more, there are only very limited examples of actual calculations. Even skeptical views and opinions exist. This paper discusses existing criticism and propose a method for calculating the product function by using TV sets as an example.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129538792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A feasibility study has been conducted to develop a new sorting process for aluminum scraps. The process includes irradiation of the aluminum surface by YAG laser, that is an automatic discrimination method by a pattern matching method. Seven aluminum alloys selected from seven wrought aluminum alloy systems were used for sorting test samples. The YAG laser beam was irradiated to melt the surface of the aluminum. The surface morphology after irradiation was observed including the molten area, brightness profile and change in color. The surface morphology seemed to depend on the physical properties of aluminum such as thermal conductivity. The possibility of establishing the automated aluminum sorting method was suggested by the pattern matching method which effectively identifies the aluminum alloy number.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130155346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While there are years of experience on how to efficiently incorporate technical requirements into products there is a lack of knowledge concerning the consideration and evaluation of ecological aspects like those addressed by recent legal regulations. Technological innovations help to meet these requirements. However, resource and time restrictions prohibit the evaluation of innovative alternatives, because evaluating a process is time consuming and therefore costly. The goal of the research project E2Pro is to offer product designers and developers an easy access to knowledge about innovative materials and technologies. With this offer less effort and resources have to be spent in order to evaluate the application of innovative material or technologies in a new product.","PeriodicalId":217614,"journal":{"name":"2003 EcoDesign 3rd International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126905298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
