Kakuda","doi":"10.1109/ISORC.2014.20","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISORC.2014.20","url":null,"abstract":"Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are networks consisting of wireless communication terminals such as cell phones and smartphones without any communication infrastructures (e.g. base stations). Therefore, MANETs can be utilized for networks in disasters. Moreover, there are some MANET-oriented applications that are developed for day-to-day life. In this paper, we propose a new self-organized communication method with delay and disruption tolerance using Bluetooth, which has advantages in both energy conservation and resilience against radio interference. Our proposed method is also able to adapt to the varying node density within the networks in a self-organized manner. In our proposed method, a node switches its communication method depending on the connectivity of adjacent nodes. We implemented and measured our proposed method on user information dissemination systems. These tests demonstrated our method works on networks with various node densities. Furthermore, we have confirmed that our method can improve the propagation speed of packets in real situations.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123339175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, current state-of-the-art high-quality algorithms for image classification do not meet many dynamic real-time requirements. This paper presents the development of M-VCR - a novel approach for improving the reliability of real-time image classification. M-VCR increases the quality of classifications under real-time constraints through the adoption of fast classification algorithms, although these algorithms individually produce lower quality results, utilisation under a 'consensus' approach can achieve results equivalent to those of much higher-quality algorithms. The proposed approach also allows for different algorithms to be utilised in parallel, building on the fault tolerance technique of N-versioning. A significant improvement in image classification is experimentally demonstrated for both the SURF and MSER feature detectors through our integration consensus approach. This improvement is delivered entirely through the integration method without requiring modification of the source algorithms being used.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123741173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such features come at the cost of improved difficulty in monitoring the SOA for error detection: i) faults may manifest themselves differently due to services and SOA evolution, and ii) interactions between a service and its monitors may need reconfiguration at each service update. This calls for monitoring solutions that operate at different layers than the application layer (services layer). In this paper we present our ongoing work towards the definition of a monitoring framework for SOAs and services, which relies on anomaly detection performed at the Application Server (AS) and the Operating System (OS) layers to identify events whose manifestation or effect is not adequately described a-priori. Specifically the paper introduces the key concepts of our work and presents the case study built to exercise and set-up our monitor. The case study uses Life ray as application layer and it includes fault injection and data collection instruments to perform extended testing campaigns.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134080787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Dynamic Analysis of Embedded Software Using Execution Replay","authors":"Y. Song, Yann-Hang Lee","doi":"10.1109/ISORC.2014.16","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISORC.2014.16","url":null,"abstract":"For program optimization and debugging, dynamic analysis tools, e.g., profiler, data race detector, are widely used. To gather execution information, software instrumentation is often employed for its portability and convenience. Unfortunately, instrumentation overhead may change the execution of a program and lead to distorted analysis results, i.e., probe effect. In embedded software which usually consists of multiple threads and external inputs, program executions are determined by the timing of external inputs and the order of thread executions. Hence, probe effect incurred in an analysis of embedded software will be more prominent than in desktop software. This paper presents a reliable dynamic analysis method for embedded software using deterministic replay. The idea is to record thread executions and I/O with minimal record overhead and to apply dynamic analysis tools in replayed execution. For this end, we have developed a record/replay framework called P-Replayer, based on Lamport's happens-before relation. Our experimental results show that dynamic analyses can be managed in the replay execution enabled by P-Replayer as if there is no instrumentation on the program.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"17 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128892261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both timing constraints and energy requirements are considered. Our objective is to determine a partitioning that guarantees absence of both energy starvation and deadline missing under Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling. First, we describe the system model and formalize the assignment problem in real-time energy harvesting systems. Then, we describe and analyze the performance of partitioning heuristics for identical processors. We explore how the task sorting criteria and the energy constraints can favor the heuristics feasibility performance. Moreover, we estimate through simulation a sufficient energy reservoir capacity that guarantees the best performance.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124854744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a method cache as a time-predictable solution for instruction caching. The method cache caches whole methods (or functions) and simplifies worst-case execution time analysis. We have integrated the method cache in the time-predictable processor Patmos. We evaluate the method cache with a large set of embedded benchmarks. Most benchmarks show a good hit rate for a method cache size in the range between 4 and 16 KB.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121346019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper discusses the handling of non-functional requirements using concepts from Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) paradigm. The proposed approach promotes the specification of platform-independent aspects in UML/MARTE model, which is later used to generate the system VHDL description. A set of mapping rules has been created to implement the model-level aspects using VHDL constructs/statements. GenERTiCA tool has been extended to allow the UML-to-VHDL automatic transformation, including the weaving of aspects adaptations code into the generated VHDL description. Such an approach allows not only the generation of a fully sinthesizable VHDL description, but also the reuse of aspects in distinct implementation technologies. The obtained results show an increase in system performance and a better utilization of FPGA configurable resources due to the improved components modularization. These results indicate the practicability of full translation of platform-independent aspects into VHDL, opening room for gains in embedded real-time system design, including reuse and design effort reduction.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123008627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the ongoing trend towards integration of services of different degrees of timing strictness on one single platform, there is a need to specify computing models for such scenarios. In this paper we study the requirements to specify mixed criticality real-time systems (MCRTS). Mixed criticality systems have been studied intensively over the last years. Existing formulations of the scheduling problem for mixed criticality systems do not consider the different timing strictness requirements of the tasks. In this paper we argue that mixed criticality properties as well as real-time properties have to be considered together in order to provide the maximal utility of a system. Based on that argument we present a list of ingredients required for the specification of MCRTS. We outline conceptually, how a system can take advantage of having MCRTS specifications available. We present some examples to show the usefulness of specifying MCRTS properties for real-life systems.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116607253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a Performance Enhancement Guaranteed Cache (PEG-C) to ensure performance improvement in the worst case while achieving as good average-case performance as a regular hardware-controlled cache. We design and evaluate an instruction PEG-C as a proof-of-concept. Our experiments indicate that with a small number of preloaded instructions, the PEG instruction cache can achieve the same performanceas a regular instruction cache, and outperform cache locking significantly.","PeriodicalId":217568,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing","volume":"305 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123062711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
