Abstract
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are networks consisting of wireless communication terminals such as cell phones and smartphones without any communication infrastructures (e.g. base stations). Therefore, MANETs can be utilized for networks in disasters. Moreover, there are some MANET-oriented applications that are developed for day-to-day life. In this paper, we propose a new self-organized communication method with delay and disruption tolerance using Bluetooth, which has advantages in both energy conservation and resilience against radio interference. Our proposed method is also able to adapt to the varying node density within the networks in a self-organized manner. In our proposed method, a node switches its communication method depending on the connectivity of adjacent nodes. We implemented and measured our proposed method on user information dissemination systems. These tests demonstrated our method works on networks with various node densities. Furthermore, we have confirmed that our method can improve the propagation speed of packets in real situations.
