The experimental study aims to provide a methodological structure to assess when alternative aggregates to limestone can be used in the bituminous mixtures. Properties concerning mechanical, physico-chemical and environmental compatibility features were studied carefully to check fly ash use. A comparative study was carried out on the performance of two mixtures using fly ash and limestone filler. The laboratory program consisted of two phases wherein a first phase mix design is carried out by adopting the Marshall method packaging 6 hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures with different bitumen contents between 4% and 5.25% by total aggregate weight at 0.25% increments. In the second phase, additional mechanical properties were investigated concerning final solution of bituminous blend designed in terms of the indirect tensile strength, water sensitivity, complex modulus and cumulative axial strain. The results show that the mixtures prepared with fly ash have better mechanical properties than the mixtures with limestone filler. Furthermore, the mixtures with fly ash also have a high environmental compatibility having recorded negative results of the environmental leaching tests.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129670780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The result was the intense fragmentation of the landscape, causing the destruction and fragmentation of forest habitats, which were restricted to small and isolated remnants. In this sense, the present study promoted an analysis of the environmental quality of vegetation fragments in the sub-basins of Ribeirão Anhumas, Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil by calculating and interpreting the circularity index (CI), in order to define the format of the fragments, connectivity/ isolation and the use and occupation of the environment as well as area and location, in order to promote the diagnosis and identification of priority areas for the implementation of restoration and environmental management actions. It was identified, therefore, that the remaining vegetation of the upper, middle and lower sub-basins is divided between small and medium unconnected fragments of which 56.2% and 24.2% presented an elongated and moderately elongated shape, respectively, and, therefore, high susceptibility to external interference and edge effects. On the other hand, high urbanization evidenced mainly in the high-level limits forest management projects, since the fragments are surrounded by built areas.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129531985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The predominant land use in the Wimmera is agriculture which is primarily responsible for the clearing of 85 percent of the region’s native vegetation. The 2003–2008 Wimmera Regional Catchment Strategy (WRCS) confirmed the natural resource management (NRM) priorities for the Wimmera Region. The Strategy document identified a number of current recommended practices (CRP), the adoption of which would contribute to the future sustainability of the region. Qualitative research identified thirteen critical CRPs that were investigated in a survey of land-management practices in the Wimmera. The research reported in this paper is based on the data collected in this survey of 1003 of the region’s landholders. Our research identifies the main determinants of the number of CRPs taken up by the region’s landholders as the size of landholding, direct government support and conservation education.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129136455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, bare soil surfaces submitted to wind blow and mining operation (earthwork, excavating, transport, etc.) are a source of particulate matter. These phenomena produce essentially coarse metal rich dusts which undergo regional atmospheric transport. This study aims to determine how the mining activities can impact the environment and the population in conjunction with the presence of particles in the atmosphere via the wind transport. In this work, Koniambo (KNS) is the target mine, a new plant and mining site created in 2010 in the north of New Caledonia. Particle matter with diameter below 10 μm (PM10) was measured in three sites surrounding the KNS mine to follow the population exposition to particulate matter. Air mass trajectory modelling was carried out to identify the sources of high PM10 events (above 50 μg/m3) in these locations and to elaborate a density map of air mass trajectories. Five mines appeared to contribute more or less to rich PM10 air masses: KNS, Népoui, Poro, Kouaoua and Monéo. A density map of air mass trajectories originating from these mines showed areas where the lower atmosphere is potentially impacted by mining dust. As lichens are known for their air pollution bioindication properties, lichens were sampled in areas with high, medium and poor trajectory densities and their Ni and Ti content were analyzed. A positive correlation between Ni/Ti ratio and trajectory densities was observed. Air mass trajectory modelling is thus a good tool to predict the potential environmental impact of mining dust.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125505061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To minimize the environmental impact, many hospitality properties are implementing and developing eco-innovations that generate ecological, social, economic and market benefits. This paper examines the reality of eco-innovations in Brazilian resorts, using the case of Rio Quente Resorts, located in Rio Quente, Goiás State, Brazil. To this end, the objective was to verify the eco-innovations developed by Rio Quente Resorts, identifying the designs of existing innovations, motivations for investing in them, and the financial and environmental results of these initiatives. Rio Quente Resorts is one of most traditional in the country, and for decades has invested in eco-innovations, earning recognition for this achievement and winning several awards. This qualitative, descriptive and sectional temporal perspective used the analysis of thematic content, with documentary research as a data collection instrument, drawing on Rio Quente’s sustainability reports and a semistructured interview with the company’s Environmental Manager. The analysis was conducted by triangulating the different data sources to improve the reliability of the results. The study found that Rio Quente Resorts has developed many eco-innovations, mostly end-of-pipe innovations. According to the interviewee, the company’s investments in eco-innovation are motivated by its own initiative. The results are measured financially, although they also included an analysis in terms of environmental impact, measuring the decrease in the use of natural resources.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116203986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, we hypothesize that it is possible that unhappiness motivates people to focus on material wealth. People who strive for money and goods might suffer from underlying feeling of insecurity. Recent research suggests that happiness can, to some degree, be changed. The first aim of the curren study is to present the psychological intervention (rhythmic-movement therapy) for increasing SWB in general and consumption satisfaction levels in particular. The second aim of our study was to propose generalized multiplicative model (GMultM) for assessing outcome of rhythmic movement therapy. The study was conducted in the framework of Mental Health Management Program organised in the “Human Ecology” department of the Research Center for Interdisciplinary Environmental Cooperation of Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia. The results of our study revealed that psychological intervention can be regarded as powerful tool to help participants to shift to more intrinsic goals, reduce materialistic tendencies and thus potentially increase pro-environmental behaviour.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124155217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies investigated and categorized the interdependency of critical infrastructures based on qualitative consideration and case studies. However, it is still necessary to approach this quantitatively. The main purpose of this study is to model the behavior of interdependent infrastructures in urban systems, especially water and energy supply, and suggest management policy for water supply systems to increase its resilience. The relationship between two infrastructures was converted into causal loop diagrams. The system dynamics model considering the interdependency was developed with components and relationship from previous research. The capacity of water supply system and its recovery capacity under disruptive scenarios was assessed as the resilience of the water supply system. The simulation result showed that the order of interdependency has high sensitivity with the variance of resilience. It was also found that enhancing the resilience of the water supply system improved not only the recovery capacity of the water supply system but also of the energy supply system. The most efficient policy leverage was found in the enhancing feedback loop of resource exchange between two infrastructures. Some assumptions in the relationship between components should be formulated with more concrete observation and mathematical consideration in further studies.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128587678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over a period of time, technology of production has changed and landowners see little private benefits from maintaining shelterbelts. A growing trend of shelterbelt removal, particularly from field and livestock areas, has been observed. In the future, perhaps continuation of such a trend seems eminent. Although landowners’ decision to remove shelterbelts could be justified on economic grounds, environmental damage, in terms of increased greenhouse gas emissions, could be serious. Government policy is needed to provide incentives to landowners to maintain shelterbelts.","PeriodicalId":217537,"journal":{"name":"Environmental Impact IV","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126856656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
