We briefly review how this flows from the early history of the field, focusing especially on David’s role in helping to bridge the divide between single-particle models and collective models of nuclear structure, and how this has led to the development of a beautiful and bold algebraic framework that underpins a theory of choice for future nuclear structure studies. Looking forward, David Rowe’s work also underpins current follow-on efforts focused on paving the way for the construction of yet another bridge, one that should help to span the chasm between low-energy and high-energy nuclear physics. If successful, the latter could ultimately lead to a truly ab initio framework for gaining a far broader understanding of nuclear structure, one that tracks forward from the fundamental structure of hadrons, especially protons and neutrons, and how they in turn conspire to give us atomic nuclei that in reality are the building blocks of the universe in which we live.","PeriodicalId":217381,"journal":{"name":"Bulgarian Journal of Physics","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131515195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the landscape changed dramatically with the advent in the 90s of highperformance computing (HPC) facilities that could be used to test more complex theories that in prior times were deemed to be beyond reach. The first of these modern theories, the so-called no-core shell model (NCSM), taught us that one can carryout nuclear structure calculations using realistic interactions deduced from nucleon scattering data. Subsequently we set out to explore whether this could be extended to algebraic models that involve non-compact group structures. A stretch goal of the latter campaign was to move away from a point-particlepicture of nuclei to a theory that is driven by the structure of the constituent nucleons themselves. What follows describes our efforts to date in moving towards this goal, and in the last section of this manuscript we proffered a novel symplectic effective field theory that may begin to pave the way for achieving this objective of breaking down barriers between a low-energy and high-energy view of nuclear physics, opening the door to what might best be called a truly unified ‘ab initio’ theory for subatomic nuclear structure studies.","PeriodicalId":217381,"journal":{"name":"Bulgarian Journal of Physics","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128120000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of these models – the symmetry-adapted nocore shell model (SA-NCSM) – is capable of reaching the medium-mass region of the chart of the nuclides, by exploiting the emergent symmetries of nuclei, and is therefore well-suited for studying collective correlations and beta decay modes. We apply the SA-NCSM to calculate beta-decay observables essential to probe physics beyond the Standard Model. Our calculations of higher-order recoil terms in the beta decay of Li help to significantly reduce the uncertainties in high-precision experiments that study the vector minus axial vector (V−A) structure of the weak interaction. Furthermore, we calculate neutrinoless double beta decay matrix elements important for determining whether the neutrino is its own antiparticle.","PeriodicalId":217381,"journal":{"name":"Bulgarian Journal of Physics","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126425743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Review is made first for the basic concept of the nuclear rotation. Then, the quantization procedure of the rigid-body Hamiltonian is reviewed for a quantum mechanical understanding of the dynamics of rigid-body rotations. This work features preliminary results from a recent experimental campaign at IFIN–HH, Romania, aimed at measuring lifetimes of excited states in the neutron–rich Hf , by means of the RDDS technique. The Ta(B, C)Hf proton pick–up reaction was used to populate excited states in the Hf nucleus. The γ transitions depopulating these levels were detected using the ROSPHERE array, in its 25 HPGe configuration. The array was coupled to the SORCERER particle detector and a plunger device enabling the study of p–γ and p–γ–γ coincident events. Six plunger distances were chosen, allowing for the construction of the decay curves of the observed γ transitions, from which the lifetimes of the levels of interest can subsequently be deduced.","PeriodicalId":217381,"journal":{"name":"Bulgarian Journal of Physics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115714157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The finite range pairing interaction separable in coordinate space which was proposed by Tian et al. has been used to treat the pairing correlations.
