Mendel studied easily observed pairs of opposite traits, such as purple or white flower, and discovered dominant and recessive traits. He concluded that parents pass separate and distinct factors (today called genes) on to their offspring that are responsible for inherited traits. However, the scientific community did not understand that; indeed it was the beginning of what becomes genetics. The lectures published in 1866, Mendel sent to more than 30 biologists across Europe, but almost no one commented them. In the next 35 years, these papers were only three times cited. The genetics became more important at the beginning of the 20th century, when three different research groups (Hugo de Vries, Carl Erich Correns and Erich von Tschermak with their co-workers) independently re-discovered Mendel's Laws of inheritance. However, as soon as the work was rediscovered, it created controversy. The closeness of Mendel's experimental observations to those predicted by his theories has led to numerous articles and ongoing debate about whether the data could have been obtained in the published form without some falsification. There have been many plausible arguments made for and against this view by a range of eminent geneticists and statisticians. Some have gone so far, as to suggest that the theories ensued from Mendel's two laws were not even correctly formulated in his original paper. The strongest supporters of Mendel's theory became biologist William Bateson and zoologist and geneticist Thomas Hunt Morgan. Morgan argued that genes are located on chromosomes and that the cells chromosomes hold the actual hereditary material, thus created what is now known as classical genetics. For his discovery concerning the role play by the chromosome in heredity, Morgan received the Nobel Prize in 1933. As the architect of genetic experimental and statistical analysis, Mendel remains the acknowledged father of genetics.","PeriodicalId":21622,"journal":{"name":"Selekcija i Semenarstvo","volume":"22 1","pages":"53-62"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71048847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is consumed in form of fresh ears, or it is industrially processed. Breeding of sweet corn has several equally important aims that are directed by the market demands and different modes of consumption. The ear yield, in sweet corn is the most important but not the only main goal of breeding. In the two year study (2013, 2014) we observed the effect of the genotype, year and their interactions on the yields of 8 sweet corn hybrids. Two of the hybrids were commercial and six were experimental hybrids. The field experiment was arranged according to the RCBD with four replications. Hybrids were harvested 23 days after pollination, i.e. silking. Average yield in 2013 was significantly higher (12.19 t ha-1) than in 2014 (11.49 t ha- 1). In 2013 it ranged from 10.21 t ha-1 for the experimental hybrid ZP 489/1su, up to 13.52 t ha-1 for the commercial hybrid ZP 355su. In 2014 the lowest yielding hybrid was ZP 485/1su (10.14 t ha-1) while the highest yielding was ZP 486/1su (13.41 t ha-1). On average those two were also the highest (13.19 t ha-1) and the lowest yielding (10.66 t ha-1) hybrids. Statistical analysis showed that the effect of genotype and the year, as well as their interactions had significant impact on the yield performances of sweet corn hybrids.","PeriodicalId":21622,"journal":{"name":"Selekcija i Semenarstvo","volume":"22 1","pages":"27-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71049129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kusainova","doi":"10.5937/SelSem1601063S","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5937/SelSem1601063S","url":null,"abstract":"U Kazahstanu se proizvodnji zelenog povrca, koje se siroko koristi u prehrani stanovnistva, pridaje malo pažnje. Zbog toga se zeleno lisnato povrce uvozi iz daljih (Kina) i bližih zemalja (Uzbekistan, Kirgistan). Postoji veliki interes za prosirenje asortimana i uvođenje malorasprostranjenih vrsta povrca. Posebna pažnja poklanja se obezbeđenju stanovnistva svežim povrcem tokom cele godine. U vezi toga se u okviru državnih programa za razvoj proizvodnje povrca sprovodi niz istraživackih projekata. Da bi se obezbedilo kontinuirano snabdevanje stanovnistva Republike kvalitetnim povrcem tokom cele godine, u toku su ispitivanja uzgoja razlicitih vrsta i sorti povrca i na otvorenom polju i u plastenicima. Po prvi put u Kazahstanu u periodu 2006. - 2011. su sprovedena istraživanja salate, jedne od malorasprostranjenih vrsta, na obrazovno-proizvodnom dobru Kazahstanskog nacionalnog agrarnog univerziteta. Ispitivane su agrobioloske, biohemijske i morfoloske karakteristike stranih sorti lisnate i glavicaste salate na otvorenom. Neke od njih su uvedene u proizvodnju. Ovaj clanak predstavlja rezultate sprovedenog ispitivanja sorti sa državne sortne liste i perspektivnih sorti. Proucavane su sorte i hibridi iz dve grupe, lisanatih i glavicastih ili iceberg salata. Cilj je bio da se odrede one koje su najpogodnije za gajenje u agroekoloskim uslovima jugoistocnog Kazahstana. Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da se po dobrom hemijskom sastavu, tj, visokom sadržaju suve materije, secera i vitamina 'C' i niskom sadržaju kiselosti između lisnatih salata izdvojila sorta Riccia invernale, a između glavicastih sorta Regina delle ghiacciole. Određen je sadržaj nitrata u jestivim delovima ispitivanih sorti salate. On je dva do tri puta manji od maksimalno dozvoljene koncentracije nitrata (PDK). Najveci prinos kod sorti lisnate salate imala je sorta Riccia invernale- 9,36 t ha-1, a najmanji prinos je bio kod sorte Poljeznij- 5,05 t ha-1. Kod glavicastih salata najveci prinos imala je sorta Kartagenas - 24,62 t ha-1, a najmanji prinos je bio kod sorte Batavia - 11,38 t ha-1.","PeriodicalId":21622,"journal":{"name":"Selekcija i Semenarstvo","volume":"22 1","pages":"63-72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71048912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
