The bonds of the resin to two of the tested alloys, Bondi-loy and Vitallium, showed tensile strengths of approximately 18 MPa. The bonds were significantly stronger than those obtained using the other two alloys, Dentitan and Novarex. The tensile bond strengths of etched Dentitan and Novarex were 5.3 and 7.5 MPa respectively. The etched and debonded surfaces were studied in SEM.
","PeriodicalId":21511,"journal":{"name":"Scandinavian journal of dental research","volume":"95 1","pages":"82-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"14673277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intraoral bacterial growth on tetracycline-impregnated dentin. 四环素浸渍牙本质的口腔内细菌生长。
K Bjorvatn, N Skaug
{"title":"Intraoral bacterial growth on tetracycline-impregnated dentin.","authors":"K Bjorvatn, N Skaug","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Previous studies have shown that tetracyclines react with enamel and dentin in vitro to form slightly soluble compounds with a pronounced and long-lasting antimicrobial capacity. The purpose of the present project was to study the effect of doxycycline-impregnation of dentin on the growth of oral microorganisms in vivo. Slabs of native human dentin were immersed in aqueous solutions of doxycycline HCl, 10 mg/ml, for 10 min, and were subsequently ligated to orthodontic brackets placed bucally on maxillary molars in seven individuals. Untreated native dentin specimens were similarly placed on contralateral teeth. Test and control specimens were removed from the oral cavity after 2 h, 24 or 120 h, respectively. The individual specimens were then placed in 0.5-ml saline and agitated mechanically for 30 s. The resulting bacterial suspensions were plated onto blood agar and various selective growth media. Based on CFU-counts obtained after incubation of the plates, doxycycline-treated dentin specimens showed a significantly lower number of viable microorganisms after 2 h and 24 h in the oral cavity than did the control specimens. The bacterial growth was also less pronounced in the test specimens after 120 h. The effect of doxycycline was similar for all the cultivable bacteria. No significant difference in yeast growth was seen between test and control specimens.
","PeriodicalId":21511,"journal":{"name":"Scandinavian journal of dental research","volume":"94 2","pages":"95-101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"14581054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Early erosion of dental cements.","authors":"G Oilo","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The disintegration in water of various unset glass ionomer cements, a polycarboxylate and a zinc phosphate cement was measured gravimetrically after exposure of the cements to a constant water jet. The test gave reproducible results with significant variations between the various types and brands of cements. For zinc phosphate and polycarboxylate cements, no weight loss was observed in the period from 4 to 8 min after commencement of mixing. All the glass ionomer cements showed a significant loss of weight at 4 min and a somewhat reduced weight loss at 6 min after start of mixing. Effect of antimicrobial mouthrinses on salivary microflora in healthy subjects. 抗菌漱口水对健康受试者唾液菌群的影响。
G Dahlén
{"title":"Effect of antimicrobial mouthrinses on salivary microflora in healthy subjects.","authors":"G Dahlén","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The antibacterial effects of chlorhexidine and an oxygen releasing agent on the salivary microflora were evaluated in healthy subjects in two separate experiments: 1) mouthrinsing on a single occasion and 2) mouthrinsing two or four times a day for 1 wk. Both experiments were performed in a cross-over study, and each subject was randomly tested for both rinsing agents and a saline control. The total bacterial number and some selected bacterial genera were followed in saliva samples taken prior to (zero-samples) and on three occasions after the rinsing or rinsing period. The reduction of the total bacterial number by mouthrinsing two or four times a day for 1 wk with chlorhexidine was statistically significant and lasted for over 4 h. After rinsing with chlorhexidine on one single occasion the reduction of the microflora was statistically significant and of the same magnitude as after rinsing two or four times daily for 1 wk. Although statistically significant reduction was obtained, the significant biologic effect of antimicrobial agents may be questioned. The number of Strep. mutans was dramatically reduced with chlorhexidine in some subjects and this reduction lasted for over 1 wk. The oxygen releasing agent did not reduce salivary flora significantly when rinsing took place two or four times daily for 1 wk.
","PeriodicalId":21511,"journal":{"name":"Scandinavian journal of dental research","volume":"92 1","pages":"38-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17642237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No difference was observed between the saliva-coated and saliva-uncoated study series of adherence. The attachment of individual bacteria to apatite crystals was found to be mediated by cell wall projections. These electron-dense structures were characteristically well formed in S. mutans, and even in S. salivarius the projections appeared to link the bacteria to the apatite. The site of attachment in the bacterial cell wall was always at the division area. We suggest that the possible metabolic activity at the cell wall division site, therefore, also works in the adherence process.
","PeriodicalId":21511,"journal":{"name":"Scandinavian journal of dental research","volume":"91 6","pages":"448-52"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1983-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17637112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, stannous fluoride reduced the number of Strep. mutans in plaque significantly; stannous ions have an antibacterial effect. Stannous chloride and stannous tartrate did not reduce caries in the rats, probably because of the low concentrations of available stannous ions in these solutions at low pH. The high concentration of stannous ions in solutions of stannous fluoride is probably partly due to the reduced hydroxide formation resulting from the buffering effect of HF formed at low pH in this solution.
","PeriodicalId":21511,"journal":{"name":"Scandinavian journal of dental research","volume":"91 5","pages":"351-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1983-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17636885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
