Various studies described both cognitive impairments and psychiatric disorders among people with AUD. This disorder is one of the most frequent mental disorders in developed countries, due to excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol is toxic as it increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and can cause dependence. This causes negative effects on brain development and cognitive functions that affect the individual's work, health, and social life. Current pharmacology treatment for alcohol addiction is based on direct action against the neurotransmitters involved in alcohol dependence. AUD patients without comorbid psychiatric disorders or severe cognitive deficits are defined as \"pure alcoholics\". To date, poor is known about effective treatments for this typology of AUD patients. Psychotherapy is largely used in resolving many psychiatric disorders, including substance use disorders. Motivational enhancement therapy (MET) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) are two psychotherapies used to achieve and maintain abstinence in patients affected by substance use disorders. This short review aims to describe two CBT and MET and to present the advantages and disadvantages of these two psychotherapies in the treatment of AUD.</p>","PeriodicalId":21506,"journal":{"name":"Rivista di psichiatria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39786920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The partial understanding of MDD pathophysiology currently constitutes the major barrier to clinical and research progress on this topic. However, recent advances in genome editing techniques as well as in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) technology are offering unprecedented opportunities in both human disease modelling and drug discovery. These technology progresses have been enabling to set up disease-relevant patient-specific in vitro disease modeling for various mental disorders. The resulting models have the potential to significantly improve pathophysiologic understanding of MDD and then overcome some limitations inherent to animal and post-mortem models. More recently, psychiatry started to deal with the fast acting antidepressant ketamine and its derivates. Although ketamine appears to have the potential to transform the treatment of depression, its specific mechanisms of action are only partially known. Such knowledge is necessary to develop a model to understand the mechanisms behind fast-acting antidepressants, which may enable the discovery of novel glutamatergic compounds for the treatment of MDD. After discussing both the current understanding of ketamine's mechanisms of action, and the state of the art of human iPSC technology, the authors will introduce the implementation of a TRD model based on iPSC human technology and aimed at studying the ketamine's fast acting antidepressant mechanisms of action.","PeriodicalId":21506,"journal":{"name":"Rivista di psichiatria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68082105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shift work is necessary to ensure continuity of healthcare provision. Worldwide, nurses work night shifts on a rotational or permanent basis. OBJECTIVE To analyse the impact of circadian rhythm disruption due to night shift work on the mental wellbeing of nurses. METHODS The literature search was conducted using PubMed and Scopus electronic databases. Selection criteria include studies published in English between 1997 and 2021 that examined the impact of night-shift work on the mental health of nurses. RESULTS The searches generated a total of 22 records on the PubMed database, and 9 records on the Scopus database, and a total of 31 studies. 29 papers were identified after removal of duplicates. However, 29 articles were screened based on the review of titles and abstracts. 19 articles were identified for full-test review. Seven papers were included in this review. CONCLUSIONS Disrupted circadian rhythms and poor sleep quality and quantity have been identified as two of the most significant elements in the long-term effects of night-shift work on nurses' mental health. Strategies and policies to promote workplace health may reduce the occurrence of mental health disorders among night-shift nurses, whether the shifts are rotational or permanent. Nursing supervisors and hospital administrators should consider developing new guidelines to minimize the negative impact of night shift rotations on mental health and the quality of life among nurses.","PeriodicalId":21506,"journal":{"name":"Rivista di psichiatria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68082137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Context Sensitivity Index (CSI) measures the ability to perceive cues to contextual demands across different situations. This study aimed to present the first step of the adaptation and validation to the Italian context of the FREE and the CSI scales. MATERIALS AND METHODS A sample of 120 Italian students took part in this first step. Six focus groups were conducted to explore the Context sensitivity, Emotional Flexibility, and Flexible Regulation of Emotional Expression constructs in the Italian context. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed with T-LAB software and two kinds of analyses were performed. RESULTS Results of the Thematic Analysis of Elementary Contexts showed four clusters: \"emotional flexibility\", \"emotion management\", \"emotion regulation\", and \"context sensitivity\". Results of Factorial Analysis of Correspondences indicated three factors with the first two factors explaining about 80% of the variance. Factor 1, which opposed \"emotional flexibility\" and \"context sensitivity\" at its negative pole; \"emotion management\" and \"emotion regulation\" at its positive pole, was named \"Cognitive and emotive functions of mind\". Factor 2, which opposed \"context sensitivity\" and \"emotion regulation\" on the positive pole, \"emotional flexibility\" and \"emotion management\" on the negative pole, was named \"Elaboration-adaptation as aim of the subject\". CONCLUSIONS Preliminary results obtained through a qualitative approach supported the validity of the flexible regulation of emotional expression and the context sensitivity constructs in the Italian context. These results will be tested with a quantitative approach in the next steps of this research.","PeriodicalId":21506,"journal":{"name":"Rivista di psichiatria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68082892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VOSviewer can perform bibliographic network analysis (BNA), extracting all central topics that identify core behavioural skills in mental health nursing and essential elements in interprofessional practice (IPP). AIM The current study captures the critical concepts in mental health nursing assessment by performing a BNA of essential topics on ethnography, social network analysis, and interprofessional care. METHODS A qualitative BNA with a VOSviewer extracted relevant topics from a total of 542 articles obtained from Microsoft API. A subsequent confirmatory quantitative analysis with NVIVO weighed the percentages of the relevant issues and words extracted by the VOSviewer. Boolean keywords searched were 'ethnography,' 'social network analysis,' 'interprofessional', 'psychiatry' and 'hospital'. RESULTS Major themes identified in ethnography, IPP, and social network analysis for nursing assessment were those of 'communication' (11.63%), 'whole' (9.29%), 'knowledge' (7.66%), 'person' (7.52%), 'activity' (6.31%) and 'collaboration' (6.10%). DISCUSSION The current study has proven the value of BNA in extracting relevant topics in target literature. VOSviewer captured salient issues in mental health nursing assessment, including ethnographic observations, social network analysis, and IPP. The results confirmed the value of focusing on collaborative care, reciprocity, knowledge management, and information sharing in assessing mental health nursing performances.","PeriodicalId":21506,"journal":{"name":"Rivista di psichiatria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68083167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among pharmacological approaches, the development of long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAI) has radically changed the treatment plan of patients with schizophrenia. LAI can be successfully used in patients with multiple episodes, with partial or poor adherence to treatments and are very useful also in first episode patients. LAIs have been proven to be effective and with a good safety and tolerability profile, but they are still used in a few cases in the clinical routine practice. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate attitudes and preferences of psychiatrists in the Italian routine care towards LAI and to identify the communication skills adopted in the routine care for the prescription of LAI. The final sample consists of 274 clinicians, recruited by phone call (n=257) and online (n=17). The main findings are: the psychoeducational approach is essential for improving patients' adherence to pharmacological treatments and their personal and social functioning; the involvement of family members is essential for improving adherence to treatments; LAIs are frequently used due to their efficacy and good tolerability profile, compared to first generation depot antipsychotics.
