This study assessed the interplay between the needle-pleura angle and the biopsy needle traversal duration (NTD) through the lung parenchyma during CT-guided lung biopsies that resulted in pneumothorax. In this retrospective study, 96 patients underwent CT-guided lung biopsies. The minimum delta (δmin) was calculated as the absolute value of the difference between a 90° angle and the measured angles of the needle with respect to the pleura, and correlations with the occurrence of pneumothorax were analyzed. The NTD was recorded from the moment of needle puncture through the pleura until needle retraction. Patients with pneumothorax were grouped on the basis of NTD: < or > 6 minutes. A multivariate analysis was conducted, comparing four patient groups with and without pneumothorax.6 out of 96 patients undergoing CT-guided lung biopsies were excluded because of predefined exclusion criteria. 22 patients experienced postprocedural pneumothorax-6/22 patients had δmin > 10° with NTD > 6 minutes, 5/22 had δmin < 10° with NTD < 6 minutes, 2/22 had δmin > 10° with NTD < 6 minutes, and 9/22 had δmin < 10° with NTD > 6 minutes. Overall, 14.7% of patients with δmin < 10° and NTD < 6 minutes experienced pneumothorax compared with 33.3% of patients with δmin > 10° with NTD > 6 minutes.Optimizing the needle-pleura angle and NTD during a CT-guided lung biopsy can reduce the risk of pneumothorax. · Pneumothorax is the most common complication of lung biopsies.. · Needle angle und needle-traversal duration can affect the incidence of pneumothorax.. · Needle-pleura angle and the needle-traversal duration can reduce the risk of pneumothorax.. · Maalouf N, Abou Mrad M, Benayed R et al. The symptoms of post-COVID are manifold, but fatigue, cardiopulmonary complaints, cognitive deficit, and pain syndromes are prominent. There are currently no surefire symptoms or specific markers that prove the presence of the disease. Therefore, diagnosis is often based on an exclusion of other diagnoses, which requires good interdisciplinary cooperation. Therapy for post-COVID disease is also not specific but is always individual and symptom-oriented. There have been various attempts to explain the pathogenesis of post-COVID, but the mechanisms behind the development of the condition have not yet been conclusively clarified. Persistence of the virus or of viral proteins may cause protracted infection or autoimmunity. Infection and inflammation of the endothelium of the small vessels and the hypercoagulation associated with this may lead to local cytokine dysregulation and organ damage. Further clarification of the pathogenesis of post-COVID and the establishment of effective diagnostic tools and therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. · Post-COVID is a commonly reported condition with variable symptoms. · Interdisciplinary exclusion of other diagnoses and therapy planning are important. · Clarification of pathogenesis and establishment of diagnostic markers are urgently needed. · Reisinger EC, Geerdes-Fenge H, Wossidlo C et al. Current screening strategies, including transvaginal ultrasound and CA125 testing, have limited sensitivity and specificity, particularly in asymptomatic women or those with early-stage disease. The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology, the European Society of Pathology, and other health organizations currently do not recommend routine population-based screening for ovarian cancer due to the high rates of false-positives and the absence of a reliable early detection method. This review examines existing ovarian cancer screening guidelines and explores recent advances in diagnostic technologies including radiomics, artificial intelligence, point-of-care testing, and novel detection methods.Emerging technologies show promise with respect to improving ovarian cancer detection by enhancing sensitivity and specificity compared to traditional methods. Artificial intelligence and radiomics have potential for revolutionizing ovarian cancer screening by identifying subtle diagnostic patterns, while liquid biopsy-based approaches and cell-free DNA profiling enable tumor-specific biomarker detection. Minimally invasive methods, such as intrauterine lavage and salivary diagnostics, provide avenues for population-wide applicability. However, large-scale validation is required to establish these techniques as effective and reliable screening options. · Current ovarian cancer screening methods lack sensitivity and specificity for early-stage detection.. · Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, radiomics, and liquid biopsy offer improved diagnostic accuracy.. · Large-scale clinical validation is required, particularly for baseline-risk populations.. · Chiu S, Staley H, Jeevananthan P et al. The aim of this evaluation of the prospectively managed voluntary multinational registry of the German Society for Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR) was to analyze the use, technical success, and complications of image-guided diagnostic biopsies of bone lesions. All bone biopsies reported in the DeGIR registry between 2018 and 2022 were included. Technical success was defined as the successful image-guided placement of the sampling device within the bone lesion. Technical success and complication rates were compared across various parameters by Fisher's exact and chi-square test. p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.A total of 17397 diagnostic punctures (female: 52% (9046/17397), outpatient procedures: 34% (5924/17397), median age: 64y (IQR 51-75y)) from 214 centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were analyzed. The technical success rate was 98.9% (17201/17397), with histological representativeness in 93.2% of cases (10316/11071). Outpatient procedures had a higher technical success rate (99.3%, 5884/5924) compared to inpatient procedures (98.6%, 11316/11473, p<0.0001), but lower histological representativeness (91.1%, 1284/1410 vs. 93.5%, 9031/9661, p=0.001). The overall complication rate was 0.62% (108/17397), with major complications being predominantly parenchymal bleeding. Solid or subsolid lesions had higher histological representativeness (94.0%, 7846/8346) compared to necrotic-cystic lesions (90.3%, 1558/1725, p<0.0001).Image-guided bone biopsies are highly effective and safe. The high technical success rates and low complication rates underscore their clinical utility. The DeGIR registry provides valuable insight into the performance and outcomes of these procedures, highlighting their importance in interventional radiology. · Image-guided bone biopsies have a high technical success rate.. · The complication rate is generally low, with major complications being rare.. · The further reduction of complications in patients with normal coagulation parameters indicate that bone biopsies might be safely performed as outpatient procedures.. · Zensen S, Opitz MK, Behr F et al. The results of the survey are intended to serve as a basis for expert recommendations on enteral contrast administration in abdominal CT.DRG members were invited to take part in the online survey by email, newsletter, and via the DRG online portal. The survey was available for 70 days. It comprised 61 questions on enteral contrast administration in various clinical scenarios, with an average operation approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods.1,001 radiologists completed the survey. Of the participants, 67% worked in a hospital and 33% in private practice or a medical care center. Furthermore, 52% of the participants were senior physicians or board-certified radiologists. Enteral contrast administration is being performed selectively for various indications, but with considerable differences in technique and regularity. A lack of substantial diagnostic gain, as well as time-related or organizational factors, were the main reasons cited against enteral contrast administration. The results of the survey demonstrate a heterogeneous, selective, and indication-specific implementation of enteral contrast administration.
