A link between H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease is now established. Other contributing factors and their interaction with the organism may initiate the ulcerative process. The fact that eradication of H. pylori infection leads to a long-term cure in the majority of duodenal ulcer patients and the fact that the prevalence of infection is higher in ulcer patients than in the normal population are cogent arguments in favor of it being the primary cause of the ulceration. This study was under taken at the Department of surgery, Narayana medical college, Nellore from January 2007 to July 2008. A total of 150 patients with duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, antral gastritis, gastric carcinoma and dyspepsia of any kind were studied. Maximum number of cases were in the age group of 31 years to 50 years among both sexes and number of cases gradually decreased after 50 years of age in males and females. Males were more in number and male to female ratio is (2.75:1) approximately 3:1.","PeriodicalId":214238,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133004526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It accounts for 15 % of all cancer deaths. Various protocols are in use for the assessment of prognosis, and also to assist in planningfurther management of these cases. Of various parameters, expression of Estrogen receptors (ER) is significant. The literature includes several studies showing association between the presence of estrogen receptors apart from other indicators of good prognosis like small tumor size, low histological grade, low nuclear grade and low mitotic activity. It is also a powerful predictive factor for the likelihood of benefit from adjuvant hormonal therapy including aromatase inhibitors (Anastrozole, letrozole) and Tamoxifen, an oral selective estrogen receptor modulator. All cases of Carcinoma breast presenting to S.V.R.R.G.G. Hospital, are evaluated for Estrogen Receptor status using immunochemistry, indirectly assessing the prognosis of individuals presenting to the Hospital and in turn the prognosis of the disease in the region.","PeriodicalId":214238,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124828225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the commonest indication for ventilation in neonates in India. Surfactant Replacement Therapy (SRT) for RDS is a major breakthrough that has revolutionized the survival of premature infants worldwide. Randomized controlled trials have also demonstrated that prophylactic or early surfactant therapy compared with delayed surfactant treatment results in improved outcomes for preterm infants at high risk. Objective: To assess the outcome of early and late rescue surfactant administration by InSuRE (Intubation, Surfactant and Rapid Extubation) technic in managing preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Methodology: Study design: Prospective analytical study. Sample size: 144 preterm babies between 28-34 weeks of GA. Setting: Level III NICU at SVRR Government General Hospital, Tirupati, AP. Study Period: 1 year (Sep 2013 to Aug 2014). Method: All preterm babies between 28-34 weeks with respiratory distress were given surfactant with InSuRE technic immediately and categorized into early and late rescue group depending on the time of surfactant therapy i.e. within 2 hrs. of life and between 2-24 hrs. of life respectively. Results: In early rescue group there is significant reduction in mortality and lessen the need of mechanical ventilation with p value <0.05. Conclusion: Early routine surfactant administration within 2 hrs. of life as compared to late selective administration significantly reduced the need mechanical ventilation within 7th day of life and mortality among preterm with respiratory distress syndrome.","PeriodicalId":214238,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132355755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In elderly persons with more osteoporotic bone; most of these injuries occur from falls. Evolution of management of these fractures have revolutionized over time. Management of distal end of humerus fractures pose a challenge to treating orthopedic surgeon. Choice of implant depends of fracture anatomy and circumstances. In the present study we evaluate modes of management of distal end of humerus fractures in adults. Thirty six cases of fracture of distal humerus in adults were treated both conservatively and surgically and fixed using various implants in Mamata General Hospital, Khammam from October 2010 to October 2012. The Objectives of the study are to analyze the various methods of management of distal humeral fractures in adults. Most of the cases were males with age ranging between 18 to 65 years. By mayo elbow performance scoring system out of 36 patients, 14 patients (38.9%) had excellent results, 11 patients (30.6%) had good results, 4 patients (11.1%) had fair results and 7 patients (19.4%) had poor results. Reconstruction plates and cannulated cancellous screws offer excellent results in distal humeral fractures in adults.Open reduction and internal fixation with reconstruction plate and cancellous screws can be considered as the treatment of choice. With this method, proper length of the distal humerus, opposition, articular congruency, axial alignment, rotational alignment and stability with good range of motion of elbow can be restored. Hence, Reconstruction plates and cannulated cancellous screws can be considered as first line of management.","PeriodicalId":214238,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129095460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is limitation to practice and perfect the skills on sick patients. Hence, standardized patients are used for practice of clinical skills. However non-availability of trained standardized patients, high cost of employing them poses a challenge to training medical students. The viable alternative is to use the peers for skill training. It can be a potential area of student discomfort or inappropriate behavior by classmates or tutors. Present study assesses the attitude of students towards Peer Physical Examination (PPE). Fifty three third term medical students (23 males and 30 females) were administered a structured and validated questionnaire with 15 questions to assess elements of comfort, professionalism, appropriateness and value of PPE. Students responded to questions using a five-point Likert scale, where 1 = strongly agree, and 5 = strongly disagree.The pattern of response was similar for male and female students. 81.82% were comfortable with PPE for practice of clinical skills. 32.90% were comfortable examining peers of opposite sex. 18.04% felt it was appropriate to perform breast, genital and rectal examinations on peers. 2.17% agreed to volunteer for such examination.Majority of students preferred PPE to standardized patients for practice of clinical skills. PPE was preferred as it provided valuable feedback, better learning experience, and felt examining classmates was comfortable & appropriate. However they felt inappropriate to volunteer or examine breast, inguinal, genital regions of classmate as a part of PPE.","PeriodicalId":214238,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127747031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
