Plagiar implica apropiarse intencionalmente de textos, ideas, imágenes o datos ajenos sin dar el crédito debido. Sin embargo, las muchas y, a veces, sutiles maneras de plagiar dificultan identificar esta práctica deshonesta. Los fraudes y plagios explican la mayoría de los artículos retractados en revistas tradicionales y en las de acceso abierto. Además, las retractaciones por plagios en las bases de datos LILACS y SciELO exceden las reportadas en PubMed y Web of Science. Dicha diferencia se atribuye a la permisividad propia de nuestra cultura y a la dificultad para escribir en inglés que los académicos no angloparlantes enfrentamos. Tales peculiaridades explican el conflicto que experimentan los estudiantes latinoamericanos de posgrado en Estados Unidos, país cuya cultura es mucho más estricta en cuestión de plagios académicos y científicos. Al facilitar el acceso a la literatura científica, los avances digitales han propiciado los plagios, pero también el desarrollo de programas para detectar tales apropiaciones. Además del burdo “copiar y pegar”, las herramientas para parafrasear han refinado y quizá aumentado el llamado “parafragio”. Así, el novedoso ChatGPT puede usarse para plagiar y “parafragiar”. Peor aún, la inclusión del ChatGPT como coautor de artículos científicos ha llevado a que el International Committee of Medical Journal Editors y editoriales de prestigio precisen que tal recurso no debe incluirse en la lista de autores. Para evitar el plagio, basta dar siempre el crédito a quien corresponda y apropiadamente. Por último, cuestiono la fe ciega en el progreso y el nulo escepticismo ahora imperantes que nos impiden prever las consecuencias negativas de los avances tecnológicos.","PeriodicalId":21419,"journal":{"name":"Revista médica del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social","volume":"28 1","pages":"857 - 862"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139288152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It plays an indispensable role in the health emergency, as it represents the first contact for many Mexicans with and without social security. Its work during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial as it forms the gateway to health systems. The contingency due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Mexico has only increased this inequality between those who have access to quality services and those who do not. Certain weaknesses are evident in the country, such as the saturation of hospitals, care times and the shortage of medicines. However, they have also highlighted strengths such as the vaccination strategy (being one of the first Latin American countries to implement the vaccine against COVID-19). On the other hand, the hospital reconversion that has made it possible to care for a greater number of patients, avoiding the saturation of hospitals. So far (November 2022) around 640 million SARS-CoV-2 infections have been confirmed worldwide. It is known that this disease has a main affection at the cardiopulmonary level, however, it affects almost all the organs and systems of the body, including the skin. Post-COVID-19 syndrome occurs in some patients, leaving significant sequelae that impact their quality of life. Among the most common sequelae are: cough, dyspnea, chronic fatigue, hyposmia and dysosmia. In addition to these, other sequelae not related to respiratory syndrome have been reported, such as hair loss, which has been observed in around 20% of post-COVID-19 patients, this could be attributable to acute telogen effluvium (TE). To date, no study has been conducted to determine the relationship of ET in those who have had COVID-19. Acute ET is defined as diffuse, non-scarring hair loss, usually self-limited, lasting for about 6 months.
