The scenario is considered when a vehicle enters a curve with excessive speed and the aim is to apply automatic chassis control to prevent the vehicle from drifting out of the lane. In a previous study, the optimization problem is formulated as the minimization of maximum path off-tracking and the optimal response of a particle model is in the form of a parabolic path recovery (PPR) where the acceleration vector is fixed in the global frame. A recently developed model based control method the Modified Hamiltonian Algorithm (MHA) uses this acceleration information as a reference for control allocation to each wheel. The controller is developed using a simplified 3DOF vehicle model in Matlab and Simulink environment. In this paper, we consider using a high fidelity model in CarMaker to verify the control performance. It is of particular interest to see how well the chassis control can deal with the inherent understeer and oversteer qualities of the vehicle. Hence in this paper we evaluate the ability of an active safety system to overcome the mechanical limitations of the vehicle.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133051737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of all the electro-mechanical-chemical variables involved in improving the system frequency response. It also evaluates the impact of including inertial emulation control of grid-scale BESS on the system frequency response of classical transmission systems. In order to investigate this impact, several simulations case studies are carried out, with different sudden generation outages and load disturbances with different power supply capacities. All case studies are combined with time-domain events to inspect the dynamic behavior of the frequency response of grid-scale battery. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the inertial response to design a set of algorithms to control the output of the inertial controller.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133923368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We decode message using hypothesis testing with optimum threshold value according to Neyman-Pearson test. We define a detection factor, k0, which is equivalent to Lagrange Multiplier and use PSO optimization algorithm to obtain optimum threshold value. To increase security, we impose Arnold transform with optimum iteration number both on the host image and logo before embedding data. The robustness of the method is analyzed against well-known Stir-Mark attack set and compared with similar methods. Experimental results confirm the imperceptibility of the proposed method and more robustness against attacks.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121966225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the characterization of small world coefficient is studied along different scenarios. Two connectivity measures as phase locking value (PLV) and coherence, two different frequency bands and two different time slots division (static and 3 different time windows). The second objective of this work was to study the viability of a novel stimuli for using on MI based BCIs, emotional schematic faces. Two emotions were showed to the participants: happiness and sadness to perform their MI tasks. Accuracy rates of up to 91.1% suggest that this is a promising strategy for BCI classifiers.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"171 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122328726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve the aim, different working fluids with operating conditions were investigated to identify the most efficient turbine for low-grade heat source with temperature less than 85°C. In previous studies related to organic Rankine cycle analysis, the isentropic efficiency of the turbine was assumed constant, while in this work, the isentropic efficiency is calculated at different operating conditions for each working fluid. The ANSYSR17- CFX software is used to perform the three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic analysis of the radial-inflow turbine for a number of organic working fluids (R141b, R245fa and n-pentane) and different operating conditions. The real fluid properties using equations of state were employed and results showed that n-pentane has the highest performance for all operating conditions. The maximum total isentropic efficiency of turbine was about 80.15% with 5.119 kW power output and 10.34% cycle thermal efficiency.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126005161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When strengthening RC members with FRP material, a typical strength increase is desired. A conventional failure by either, concrete crushing in the compressive region, or rupture of FRP composite in the tensile soffit, can provide the desired strength enhancement. However, in most cases, the desired strengthening capacity will not be achieved due to premature failures which take place before the ultimate capacity is reached. Concrete cover separation (CCS) has been frequently observed pre-mature failure in RC beams strengthened or retrofitted with FRP plates. This study investigates, using three-dimensional finite element (FE) models, the behavior of RC beams strengthened in flexure with externally bonded Carbon FRP (CFRP) material, when CCS is the mode of failure. Four FRP strengthened RC beams, previously tested in four-point bending and experienced CCS failure, were simulated at several loading stages, cracking, yielding, and failure. A section of the FE model, at the cut-off location of CFRP, was examined to determine the failure load. A stress failure criterion, based on the concrete strength, is implemented. At each load step in the model, normal stresses at the section were observed and compared to the concrete tensile strength, and when the maximum tensile stress exceeds the concrete's tensile strength, CCS failure is assumed to initiate and the accompanying load step is considered to be the ultimate load. Comparisons with the experiment, have suggested a good correlation of results between FE and the experiment, and validated the post-processing analysis procedure.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130128707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this cannot be operating when the line-of-sight visibility to the satellites is lost, as in indoor, dense environments or bad weather conditions. This motivates the growing network or hybrid based positioning techniques that use signal strength and network topology. Our methodology uses TEMS Investigation software to retrieve network information including signal strength and cell-identities of various network transmitters, and a nonlinear estimation like technique to estimate the mobile position. Typically, under linearity and Gaussian additive noise constraint, the conventional Kalman filters yields optimal estimation solution, provided the noise statistics is known. However, when such constraint is violated, e.g., either the measurement or state model is non-linear, the convergence of the filter cannot be granted. In this paper, we present a suboptimal estimation method using the particle filter where the cellular network data are combined to yield a close to optimal solution. The algorithm is tested on synthetic and real word dataset, where the results are compared with conventional Kalman filtering and unscented transform, where the superiority of the particle filtering like approach is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122317346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Liquid air/nitrogen occupies about 1/700 of the volume of its gaseous phase making it easier to store and transport. The stored energy can be recovered through a direct expansion process where the expander design and performance have a major effect on the efficiency of the energy conversion process. In this work the effects of blade configuration including lean (-15° to +15°) and twist (-20° to +30°) angels for rotor and stator of a small scale axial cryogenic turbine have been investigated using ANSYS CFX 3D modelling. Results showed that at rotor lean angle of -10°, twist angle of 0° and hub / tip ratio of 0.83, the improvement in efficiency is 4.28% while for the same angles and hub / tip ratio of 0.66, the efficiency improvement is 1.35%. On the other hand, for rotor lean angle of 0° and twist angle of 30°, the improvement in efficiency for hub / tip ratio of 0.83 is 4.2% and for rotor lean angle of 0° and twist angle of 150, the improvement in efficiency for hub / tip ratio of 0.66 is 2.66%. the improvement was noticed when twist and lean angles for both the rotor and stator were changed simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123899510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Autonomous vehicular communication is an interesting example of such systems. High mobility speed causes drastic change in channel states, and consequently a doubly selective fading scenario is a proper model for such channels. In this paper, by considering this proper model, we introduce a multiuser system based on orthogonal signal division multiplexing in a cognitive radio scenario. Carrier interferometry codes are also utilized in this system. By designing the transmitter and receiver, the performance of such system is investigated. We show that this system works properly when users are moving rapidly, and moreover the random delay of different users can be dealt with effectively.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121580397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is known to reduce the aerodynamic drag and thus consequently limits the energy consumption and associated emissions. Although wind tunnel investigations have been performed to mimic platoon operations, most experimental evaluations of multiple vehicles in platoon are severely compromised by the restricted length of the wind tunnel test section. Therefore, the model scale must be reduced which decreases the measurement accuracy. The innovative solution presented here is to reproduce the flow structure that is created by a leading road car through the use of a `bluff-body wake generator' with a much reduced length which eliminates the need to decrease the scale of the following test model. Validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) data and analysis are presented to evaluate an optimized design of a wake generator based on the Ahmed model [1] and the effect of inter-vehicle spacing on the aerodynamic characteristics of the following vehicle. It is shown that accurate reproduction of the wake is possible at half the characteristic length, thus correctly determining the flow impact on the downstream model. This demonstrates that the bluff body wake generator provides a reliable approach that allows platooning studies to be performed without sacrificing aerodynamic resolution.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"322 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122130172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
