Material & Methods: An agar well diffusion test was used to determine the efficacy of the experimental medicaments in removing E. faecalis (ATCC 29212). Medicaments were divided into 7 groups; calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) with saline, Ca(OH)2 with anaesthetic solution, Ca(OH)2 with propylene glycol, commercially available premixed Ca(OH)2 paste, chlorhexidine gluconate gel, triple antibiotic paste (metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, doxicycline) with propylen glycol and talk powder with saline as negative control group. The diameters of the growth inhibition zones for each group were measured after 24 and 48 hours. Differences between groups were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests, and intragroup differences were analysed using Wilcoxon sign test. Results: Diameter of the inhibition zone observed for the triple antibiotic paste was significantly larger (p<0.01) and the diameter of the inhibition zone observed for the chlorhexidine gluconate gel was significantly smaller in comparison to the other tested medicaments (p<0.05). Conclusion: All of the tested medicaments were found to be effective on E. faecalis. However the results suggest that the triple antibiotic paste would be the preferred medicament against E. faecalis as it has the greatest antibacterial effect among the tested medicaments.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127463333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the possible conditions that lead to TMD is the habitual chewing side syndrome. Methods: In this case report a clinical approach is presented to manage the TMD related to unilateral vicious mastication. A 42 years old woman presented reporting headaches, di f ficulty to open mouth, presence of sensitivity in the le f t ear and TMJ region, soreness on the le f t side temporal region and sensitivity in the anterior inferior teeth. It was noted that the patient habitually clenched and ground teeth. Patient mentioned chew more on the left side. Results: A f ter confirming the unilateral mastication, a modified therapy based on the Neuro occlusal Rehabilitation was applied through the use of a splint. A f ter 60 days the patient described absence of the previous symptoms and pain relief. Conclusion: The evaluation of the masticatory pattern is o f ten neglected; however, it is of great importance since it can lead to several conditions such as condyle wear, pain, alteration of the occlusal plane, deviation of the medial line, deviation of the mandible at mouth opening, bone alterations, Temporomandibular joint(TMJ) hypofunction, headache, among others.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125071595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the management options for dental anxiety, non-pharmacological management methods were found to be superior to anxiolytic drug therapies. Medications provide only short term cost effective solutions and an increased patient risk exists due to drug interaction or overdose. Present trend is towards non aversive techniques.Aim and Objectives: To compare the effectiveness of music distraction and brief relaxation method in anxious pediatric patients.Materials and methods: Ninety children of age group of 6-12years were selected randomly by simple random sampling and were divided into three groups with thirty children in each group grouped as - Group A: Control group, Group B: Patients treated with brief relaxation, Group C: Patients treated with music distraction. The patient‘s subjective anxiety recorded using modified version of the self-report Faces Scale by LeBaron et al. Study investigated using two physiological parameters i.e. heart rate and oxygen saturation, measured with pulse oximetery at different intervals. Results: The study result showed the brief relaxation better efficacy than music distraction in reducing anxiety as indicated by both the subjective and objective parameters except oxygen saturation which were used. But music distraction also helps in lowering the anxiety in children when music distraction group was compared with the control group.Conclusion: Our study found out that even though both brief relaxation and music distraction have the ability to reduce dental anxiety in children, brief relaxation showed more potential in reducing anxiety.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115848523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

O fluor por ser uma substancia farmacologicamente ativa, deve ter seu uso racionalizado. No Brasil, a fluoretacao das aguas teve inicio em 1985 e em 1988 aos dentifricios. Os primeiros efeitos do uso do fluor foram relatados devido a fluoretacao das aguas de abastecimento publico e o uso indiscriminado desse elemento. Estes efeitos vao desde sintomas gastrointestinais ate morte subita. O fluor pode acumular nos tecidos cerebrais afetando a memoria e aprendizagem, em tecidos osseos causando fluorose ossea e tecidos moles causando toxicidade metabolica estrutural e funcional outros orgaos estao suscetiveis ao fluor como miocardio, figado, rim, testiculo eovario. The correct cementation of prosthetic restoration is essential for clinical success. However, the adhesive technique is a very recent procedure and clinicians should have a more detailed knowledge about the technique and related materials so that they can use them in their day-to-day clinical practice. Information about the the principles, indications and contraindications of adhesive cementation technique were obtained from the literature. The studies indicate that the adhesive system seems to be a valid option for fixed prosthesis cementation, since it has several advantages over conventional cementation method, especially in all-ceramic restorations. In clinical practice, the clinician should always keep in mind the characteristics of the material they are working with, so that they can select the best technique and the best cement for each clinical situation. Although more research is required in this field, there are no scientific reasons to contraindicate in routine practice.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128002569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
